In his book Just Listen, Mark Goulston shared his best-selling formula for getting through to the resistant people in your life. Now he brings his communication magic to the most difficult group of all - the downright irrational.

At work, we’re taught to lead the conversation. On social media, we shape our personal narratives. At parties, we talk over one another. So do our politicians. We’re not listening. And no one is listening to us. Despite living in a world where technology allows constant digital communication and opportunities to connect, it seems no one is really listening or even knows how. And it’s making us lonelier, more isolated, and less tolerant than ever before. A listener by trade, New York Times contributor Kate Murphy wanted to know how we got here.

10X Your Life and Business. MUST READ!!!
I have taken many courses, had many coaches and gone to many seminars. As an experienced and successful person in sales, I was blown away at how much I still learned in this book. BRILLIANT!
I was able to implement some of your exercises and methodologies inside of this book immediately and life has been so seamless ever since. Not to mention I’ve doubled revenue by doing the same amount of work. You break things down that have been so complicated in the past and I now approach with such ease.
Thank you so much Dr. Goulston, this book is a life changer around the house for my family and as I’ve mentioned I also doubled my business sales in the last week alone by incorporating your simplistic strategies. The ironic thing is, it is so much easier and more authentic to do too. It’s really a WIN-WIN! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

DEMONIZE PEOPLE WITH BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER
I was liking the book okay I found it hard to consistently listen to and I ended up putting it down for a couple of months. I come back to start it again and in the chapter about needy people he starts to warn the readers about people with borderline personality disorder. Saying to avoid them at all costs, if you’re in a relationship with one escape, then goes on to clam that these people with BPD are likely to become stalkers! What an outrageous claim. I would not suggest this book. Do not waisted your money on this. He honestly just toots his own horn thinking he is just brilliant.

Get this book and listen to it once a year!
If you get past the author's self praising parts keep popping up throughout the book, especially at the beginning (sorry Dr.Goulston), this is a book that will serve you very well in life. I recommend listening to this book at least 2 or 3 times back to back, as it will help you to retain more knowledge with every read. I especially liked the part about BPD - Borderline personality disorder as briefly mentioned in it, and with a personal experince, I can confirm his honesty and truthfulness in it.
I hate to take off an start only for the performance for using very loud *Beeps* in one of the chapters. Initially I had to skip that chapter all together but then i made myself to come back and listen to it with a cringe. This is a book for grown ups and it is unnecessary to censor it with interruptive Beeps every 3 seconds in my opinion triggering peoples tinnitus, otherwise the performance of the narrator is spot on for this kinda book!
Highly recommend this book!

Good nuggets of wisdom here and there.
This book is worth the purchase. If it’s essential / basic knowledge you’re looking for in communication tips, this book has what you’re looking for.
Good tips to use in the workplace and in personal relationships. Although, it does get stale at times with many scenario play outs.
Wouldn’t listen a second time, but I’m glad I listened at least once!

Life changing
I listen to, and read, a lot of non fiction, much of which tends to be in the areas of business, sales, and psychology.
So... When I I say that Mark Goulston has written the most indispensable book I have ever read, I do not say so lightly.
This is the book I wish I had read at the start of my career. And again at several points during my career. It is also a book I am very grateful to have finally read now, and I have recommended it to dozens of people.
Essential listening / reading.

Permanent positivity
“Just Listen” by Mark Gouldston has been a phenomenal book for me. It has allowed me to step back and look around me, and at me taking all the heat out of it.
In the old traditional free-standing wardrobe is the bottom where you keep your shoes. The middle section is where you hang your clothes. The top section is where you put everything special out of harms way. His book has allowed me to jump up on to the top level and play with all the special items. The shoes and clothes are still there, some possibly need to be thrown out and some just need polishing. How nice. Mark has also caught me wallowing in self-pity for everything that was and perhaps could always be. However he has given me tools to identify them and stop.
Thank you.
The method to listen was via audible and the narrator is lovely. It’s a lovey warm cuddle rug wrapped you. Definitely get this book.

Today, most of us communicate from behind electronic screens, and studies show that Americans feel less connected and more divided than ever before. The blame for some of this disconnect can be attributed to our political landscape, but the erosion of our conversational skills as a society lies with us as individuals. And the only way forward, says Headlee, is to start talking to each other. In We Need to Talk, she outlines the strategies that have made her a better conversationalist - and offers simple tools that can improve anyone's communication.
