Most people trip through life asking bad questions - of teachers, friends, coworkers, clients, prospects, experts, and suspects. Even people trained in questioning, such as journalists and lawyers, commonly ask questions that get partial or misleading answers. People in any profession will immediately benefit by developing the skill and art of good questioning.

Publisher's Summary
International best-selling author and behavior expert Joe Navarro helps you successfully navigate the business world by understanding what your boss and coworkers are really thinking.
Why is it that some people have all the elements of success - education, skills, integrity, motivation - but can't seem to move from effectiveness to excellence in their careers? Behavior expert Joe Navarro reveals the long-sought answer. Louder Than Words teaches how to master nonverbal intelligence, the ability to interpret and nonverbal signals - in poker terms, "tells" - in business, to assess and influence others.
Drawing on his decades in the behavioral sciences, Navarro shows how to use his simple yet powerful "comfort/discomfort" model to decode what's really being said at meetings, interviews, negotiations, presentations, business meals, and more, including the casual exchanges that often impact decisions and reputations.
Jump-start your career as you discover how to:
- Read body language to understand what clients, coworkers, interviewers, or interviewees are thinking, feeling, or intending, and discern nonverbal cues of concern, disagreement, or doubt - even over the phone
- Master the all-important first impression and use settings, seating, and gestures to inspire and captivate
- Recognize habits that send the wrong message, from nail biting to wearing inappropriate attire - and see what posture, work practices, workspaces, and even electronic habits say about people
- Become culturally aware and gender-sensitive, from best handshake practices to personal space preferences
- Learn what the "comfort dividend" can do for you and your business
- Explore how the concept of "curbside appeal" applies to you and your business, and can mean the difference between average and exceptional
Use Louder Than Words to close the deal, keep your customers, secure new ones, and lead your company with confidence. For job seekers looking to stand out from the pack, this audiobook is your get-back-to-work bible.

Incredibly useful
Would you consider the audio edition of Louder Than Words to be better than the print version?
Not necessarily. But it's definitely way more convenient for me since I am able to listen to it when spending hours driving. I mean, I tried reading and driving at the same time...doesn't seem to work for some reason.
What did you like best about this story?
The concepts he teaches, especially the body language signs he teaches you all about are amazingly useful. I see these things in my every day life and it has been an immense eye-opener into the feelings of others around me, and these concepts have given me such a power to influence others and be effective in human interaction. As something that is accessible to anyone to use, it is unmatched in its usefulness and influence.
Which scene was your favorite?
Chapter 4 and Chapter 9
What did you learn from Louder Than Words that you would use in your daily life?
Tons of things in the non-verbal world, which means that I use it every moment of my life; and this does not only include body language, but other non-verbals as well. Though I absolutely favor the body language aspect
Any additional comments?
Joe Navarro is a non-verbal genius. If you want to be more effective and influential in every interaction you are involved in among other people, read this book.

Read this if you're an average worker
If you've read the author's other book "What Every BODY Is Saying," you'll find some repetition in the beginning of this book. This book is exactly what its title purport it to be - take your career from average to exceptional. Many of the observations that the author makes about businesses and individuals are obvious, like customers get upset when there's only one cashier to handle a long line and when another worker is called, the worker strolls to his station. Managers should be training their workers to be more responsive to customers if they want to keep their business. I think this book is still worth reading. Even if there is only a few good suggestions that you would apply, practicing some good work habits would improve your performance.

The author needs your help...
...for he has been trapped under a rock since the 1950s. If you were born after 1920, you may not get much from this book.
More seriously, the content is thin and spread verbosely. Expect mind-numbing bits like "the way you act, behave, and comport yourself." The William Shatner performance of the reader makes it worse; the author should have done it.

A book to let you read others
Where does Louder Than Words rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This was a great listening read! I learned what others think of me and how I can better portray my own power position through my body language. I took the information that Joe Navarro gave me in this book and used it in my job, with my family, my neighbors, and I saw what Joe Navarro meant, by looking at others body language while they were talking to one another or to me. I now know what my bosses think of me, and how I can be a more powerful communicator through the tools that Navarro gave me in this book. Do you wonder what people think of you? Do you wonder if your boss likes you? What your co-workers think of you and if they like you? Well, I suggest and recommend very highly that you read this book, it will finally give you the answers that you have been wondering about, you can figure out what they think. Not only can you understand what people think of you but also, Navarro teaches you how you can be a better negotiator and communicator based on your body language.
This book taught me what to look for in others body language and how they feel about me or those they interact with. I was able to take the information from this book and use it to see when people liked me, or not. To my great surprise, I noticed people I had thought liked me, turned out that they didn't, and those that I thought had no opinion of me, actually really liked me, according to what Navarro said, which was portrayed through their body language. I was able to read people better, and have, since listened to this book, also bought Navarro's other book, "What every BODY is saying" and will definitely listen to them over and over again, to gain an even better understanding of people, and myself, by observing my own and others non verbal communication through their body language,as well as those I observe at a distance.
Listening to this book was great fun, very insightful, and I learned a lot about my own body language that I give away to others and have since listening to this book been able to tone down some. If you are wondering what people really think of you, learn to read their non verbal body language by learning what to look for. Read this by Joe Navarro and you will shortly have the answers to what people think of you and how you show others what you think of them.
What other book might you compare Louder Than Words to, and why?
What ever BODY is saying, by Joe Navarro
Which scene did you most enjoy?
I enjoyed the scene where Navarro describes a meeting setting and how women usually will tent their hands under the table, this caused me to realize that I have done this and started to tent my hands above the table instead of underneath. This was very insightful and I decided to tent my hands above instead of below the table. This seemed to have made the difference in that people seemed to listen to me better and agreed with me more when I spoke. Very surprising.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
What are they thinking of me?
Any additional comments?
I hope to soon see another book from Navarro as he is very good at describing body language and I love to learn from him.
