Publisher's Summary

"Everyone gets mad at hustlers, especially if you're on the victim side of the hustle. And Miles knew hustling was in his veins."

Miles Morales is just your average teenager. Dinner every Sunday with his parents, chilling out playing old-school video games with his best friend, Ganke, crushing on brainy, beautiful poet Alicia. He's even got a scholarship spot at the prestigious Brooklyn Visions Academy. Oh yeah, and he's Spider-Man.

But lately Miles' Spidey sense has been on the fritz. When a misunderstanding leads to his suspension from school, Miles begins to question his abilities. After all, his dad and uncle were Brooklyn jack-boys with criminal records. Maybe kids like Miles aren't meant to be superheroes. Maybe Miles should take his dad's advice and focus on saving himself.

As Miles tries to get his school life back on track, he can't shake the vivid nightmares that continue to haunt him. Nor can he avoid the relentless buzz of his Spidey sense every day in history class, amid his teacher's lectures on the historical benefits of slavery and the importance of the modern-day prison system. But after his scholarship is threatened, Miles uncovers a chilling plot, one that puts his friends, his neighborhood, and himself at risk.

It's time for Miles to suit up.

Not a good Spider-man book

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

People who like stories that have a lot of school work in them and no action

Has Miles Morales: Spider-Man turned you off from other books in this genre?

I love super hero books but Miles barely does anything interesting in this book and the villain is a joke

Have you listened to any of Guy Lockard’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Miles Morales: Spider-Man?

All of the school work and poems that the book mentions over and over literally 60% of the book

Any additional comments?

Read something better. If you like superhero books listen to

"You Are Just Like Me"

A haunting line that resonates through the book, resulting in expertly crafted and truly intimate tension. Reynolds managed to capture Miles's psyche and struggles, bringing social issues into the personal world of a super hero. Very relevant in today's America, the book presents antagonists that reflect a real and looming threat in contemporary society.

On the Nose!

I always thought the "School to Prison Pipeline" was a metaphor. But apparently they took it very literal.

It was great!. However…

I would have liked a more conclusive ending with the relationships between everybody. At the end of the book it made me feel like there should have been at least another few pages. But over all the best superhero novel that I've read And the voice acting and reading was unmatched by anything else I've heard. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is even remotely a superhero fan or not a superhero fan and just likes a really good book.

Instant Classic

I rate fiction books and movies the same way: 1) Would I watch/read again 2)Would I spend money to watch/read again 3) Would I own a personal copy to keep. This a is one of the few books that have received YES to questions 1-3. Spider-Man has been and will always be in my top 5 superheroes. I love how aurthor Jason Reynolds created this story is such a different way and brought a depth of meaning that keeps adult readers like myself engaged. The performance from Guy Lockard made me feel as though I was in Brooklyn. Awesome Job and Inloom forward to listening/reading about Miles Morales: Spider-Man.

Awesome read

This is an amazing remake on the Spider-Man story. Lovely visuals with descriptive language, I can’t wait till my nieces and nephews are old enough to read Jason Reynolds books.

Surprisingly Amazing

I bought this book because I am a Marvel fan, and I wanted something light to listen to. I had heard of Miles Morales, but I did not know much about him. I’d have to say that this book is surprising. It has such depth of theme, of character, of message. And the narrator is fantastic! I never thought a Spider-Man story could pack such a meaningful punch. It brought me back to reading Roll Of Thunder Hear My Cry as a child. It resonates with similar power and themes - in a Spider-Man story! Truly Amazing!
