Supernaturals are out of the closet but I have to stay hidden because of the type of magic I possess. I’m a Legacy. It sounds like the title should come with reverence, a trust fund, or at the very least a cool backstory—instead it comes with a death sentence. I have to hide in plain sight and pretend to be just human. I’m pretty good at it. I live a simple and somewhat normal life, and I work in antique acquisitions. Everything’s going fine until a dangerous and enchanted dagger that was once in my possession is stolen. I didn’t think things could get any worse until I woke up next to a dead shifter, fae, and mage, without any memory of the past twenty-four hours. Considered guilty of murder by most of the magical community and humans, I must work with Gareth, the sexy and dangerous leader of the Supernatural Guild.
A truce between the living and the dead isn't enough to keep Claire Danvers out of danger in this third entry in the Morganville Vampires series.
Claire Danvers' college town may be run by vampires, but a truce between the living and the dead has made things relatively safe - for a while. Now people are turning up dead, a psycho is stalking Claire, and an ancient bloodsucker has proposed private mentoring.
I enjoyed reading the first 2 books in this series after they were recommended by a friend. I then purchased book 3 in audio, and had a hard time listening to it. The narrator is flat and uninteresting, it's almost as if she's reading it for the first time, not enthusiasm, no emotion. I will be reading the rest of the books, I couldn't tolerate listening to another book narrated like this one - just bad.

I think these books are fun! I just want to make it clear to everyone that audible does have books 1-7 available and it is important to read them in order.

I've enjoyed this series so far, but was very surprised, then disappointed when this one ended, completely unresolved. I even checked to see if I'd forgotten to download the 2nd half - but that wasn't the case. I imagine it was meant to be a cliff hanger - but instead it just feels as though the book stops for no reason. Many authors can manage to write series where each book still has a complete story - and this was true for the first two books of the series - but not this one. If this is the pattern for future books in the series - they've lost me as a buyer.

Narrator: Great
Story: Fun, imaginative, exciting
Characters: Spunky and realistic
I am so falling for this town and even though the residents seem a bit more abrasive? than your usual suburban citizens i think you will agree that it makes for a great story.
Already listening to the next book. :)

Claire is a big eyed cow while Buffy was a smart kid. I had to get that out of my system. Now. Claire has a morality problem. She wants go be a good girl and a good person. She doesn't have the faintest clue how. She continuously sacrifices her friends' welfare to save rapists and murderers. A girl pushes her down the stairs and she decides to help her even if it means the boyfriend she says she cares for is near death's door and needs her support. She is trying to save the vampire race despite the fact they enslave, torture and murder the residents of an entire town. She is painted as a caring heroine in this series but her behavior at best is that of a really stupid, morally challenged t--t, and at worst, a collaborator whose cowardice has completely suborned her moral sense. On top of all that, she is a slow thinking, clumsy elephant with a strong tendancy to masochism. This is SUCH a pile of defacated material.

Where does Midnight Alley rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
The series is apparently well known, although I am somewhat new to it and only found it through another anthology. However, the character development is nice and the plot is creative.
What did you like best about this story?
The character interaction and development is enjoyable. Too often the characters in this genre are cliche and stereotypes, but Ms. Caine did an excellent job at making her characters as "real" as possible.
Have you listened to any of Cynthia Holloway’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Cynthia Holloway does a nice job with the character voices and her interpretation is very strong in this series.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This series isn't War and Peace, but at its heart it is honest and the plot themes and characters could easily be removed from the vampire-genre and put into almost any situation. To me, that makes the books enjoyable and worth the listen.
Any additional comments?
My ratings may seem high, but they should be taken in the context of the genre. Ms. Caine avoids falling into gimmicks or cliches and, instead, takes a creative and thought provoking look into a possible alternative universe where vampires and humans interact in the context of a small Texas town.
Where does Midnight Alley rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It's up in the top 100. Please remember I own over 600 audiobooks
Which character – as performed by Cynthia Holloway – was your favorite?
Even though Shane has to be my least fav. character she does him well
Any additional comments?
Well it's an over all good series, but if I have to say "Don't do that!" one more time I'm ripping my ears off.
Scene 1"Hey look! A dark scary room, let's not go in there!" Scene 2 Oh let's go in that room because we totally forgot what we said 3 minutes ago. Again!
Things that make me say AAAggghhh for 100 Alex.
I enjoyed the first two in the series, but it is starting to get a bit tedious, and harder to just "ignore" the bad choices that the main characters continue to make. I am not sure what age group I would suggest this to. I have moved on to some other authors for now. I may go back and listen to book 4.
The one thing about the series that has begun to bother me is the total acceptance by the female characters to be sexually assaulted, demeaned, groped, etc. While they don't like it, they just seem to have become "used" to it.
The thing about the book I really like is the main characters, aside from the above. I find myself wanting to get to know them better. I just think the author needs to come up with better situations so that they are not always the ones "putting" themselves into direct danger because of their poor choices.
Performance by the narrator is good. I enjoy her voice and how she portrays the characters.
I buy audible books to strengthen my memory of books I've already read and I noticed that in this audio book Shane is shot in chapter 10 but he is stabbed in the original book. Anyone else noticed this discrepancy?
Anyone know why this is?
