Publisher's summary

Number one New York Times best-selling author!

Simon Snow is the worst Chosen One who's ever been chosen.

That's what his roommate, Baz, says. And Baz might be evil and a vampire and a complete git, but he's probably right.

Half the time, Simon can't even make his wand work, and the other half, he starts something on fire. His mentor's avoiding him, his girlfriend broke up with him, and there's a magic-eating monster running around, wearing Simon's face. Baz would be having a field day with all this, if he were here - it's their last year at the Watford School of Magicks, and Simon's infuriating nemesis didn't even bother to show up.

Carry On is a ghost story, a love story, and a mystery. It has just as much kissing and talking as you'd expect from a Rainbow Rowell story - but far, far more monsters.

Narrator is British and Awesome

Would you listen to Carry On again? Why?

Yes. I already have. The narrator makes you feel like you're listening to more of an episode by episode podcast and sucks you in.

What did you like best about this story?

Besides gay representation, which is a huge plus, I really loved how tongue in cheek it was. It was heavily sarcastic and despite being a serious plot, the book felt light and fun.

Which character – as performed by Euan Morton – was your favorite?

Baz. I would go back and forth between reading my copy of the book and listening at work and the long drawl that Baz had to his voice is exactly how I imagined.

Any additional comments?

SPOILERS. The ending was a bit shoddy and felt extremely rushed. I also didn't like the fact that he still had a tail and wings? It creeped me out a bit. Also, the lack of use of the word "bisexual" sucked.

Comedy and Drama and Sour Cherry Sconces

Listening to this, especially at double speed, makes it sound like someone's personal thoughts, and that just makes everything feel more REAL. I love this book, and loved this audio

This made my week!

I haven’t listened to such an interesting story in a while, and Rainbow Rowell made the amazing fan fiction story they talked about in Fangirl come to life! I was sad to reach the stories end.

I'll Move on to Elsewhere

Slow to catch on to the fact that the book is about snogging. Thought it was a parody, and indeed there is that. But then woke up when kept stumbling into the F--- word. Genre shift! So, I'm out of here. Not returning the book as that would be interpreted as a political move; but not finishing it either.

Addicting!

Would you listen to Carry On again? Why?

I really want to, and I just finished it! I never imagined getting sucked into the "supposedly" eighth book in a series, jumping into a world that was already developed with a full cast of characters, rich history, tons of drama, and lots of tension. And the first seven books don't even exist!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Carry On?

After reading Fan Girl, I was praying that Simon and Baz would have chemistry. And boy, did they.

Have you listened to any of Euan Morton’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but I liked it!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Anything with Baz and Simon, obviously. I liked the ending especially!

Any additional comments?

Absolutely fantastic. Rainbow Rowell writes such compelling characters. Even taking Harry Potter and turning it on its head, she does it masterfully. Would highly recommend!

Couldn't stop listening

The book started off a bit all over the place but after a short while it picks up and you don't want to stop listening. Found myself laughing out loud and the silly remarks the characters make. The narrator did a good job.
I would recommend

I’ve listened to this in full about 6 times

This is my favorite book of all time. I read it first in 2016 and LOVED it, and then rediscovered it during a nasty bought of holiday depression this year. This books makes me smile and laugh out loud. The story is brilliant and the characters are well rounded and I fall in love with them more and more on each listen. If I am feeling sad, this is what I put on to make me feel okay again. In addition, the narrator, Euan Morton, is FANTASTIC. He had a specific voice and characterization for each POV we get. He’s so brilliant at narrating this that I almost feel we don’t need any sort of screen adaptation, all you have to do is listen to him make the characters come to life. Listen to (or read) this book. I hope it makes you as happy as it makes me.
