This program includes a bonus conversation with the author.

A trans boy determined to prove his gender to his traditional Latinx family summons a ghost who refuses to leave in Aiden Thomas' paranormal YA debut Cemetery Boys, described by Entertainment Weekly as "groundbreaking".

Yadriel has summoned a ghost, and now he can't get rid of him.

When his traditional Latinx family has problems accepting his true gender, Yadriel becomes determined to prove himself a real brujo. With the help of his cousin and best friend, Maritza, he performs the ritual himself and then sets out to find the ghost of his murdered cousin and set it free.

However, the ghost he summons is actually Julian Diaz, the school's resident bad boy, and Julian is not about to go quietly into death. He's determined to find out what happened and tie off some loose ends before he leaves. Left with no choice, Yadriel agrees to help Julian so they can both get what they want. But the longer Yadriel spends with Julian, the less he wants to let him leave.

A Macmillan Audio production from Swoon Reads

"The novel perfectly balances the vibrant, energetic Latinx culture while delving into heavy topics like LGBTQ+ acceptance, deportation, colonization, and racism within authoritative establishments." (TeenVogue.com)

"This stunning debut novel from Thomas is detailed, heart-rending, and immensely romantic. I was bawling by the end of it, but not from sadness: I just felt so incredibly happy that this queer Latinx adventure will get to be read by other kids. Cemetery Boys is necessary: For trans kids, for queer kids, for those in the Latinx community who need to see themselves on the page. Don’t miss this book." (Mark Oshiro, author of Anger Is a Gift)

A buzzy debut
I’ve had Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas on my Wish List for a while now. This buzzy debut is jam-packed with creative storytelling. Yadriel’s traditional Latinx family won’t accept his true gender, so in an effort to make them understand he attempts to summon the ghost of his dead cousin on Día de Muertos. Instead, Yadriel accidentally summons the ghost of one of his former classmates, Julian Diaz. Thomas combines the paranormal with romance, LGBTQIA+ heroes, Latinx culture, themes of acceptance and identity, and so much more. Performed by debut narrator Avi Roque, I can’t wait to get lost in this world. —Katie O., Audible Editor

Absolutely amazing!!!

As a bisexual trans man, this book spoke to me on so many levels. I felt so seen and heard through Yadriel and his experiences. This is a book I’ve been waiting for for so long and I wish I could have read something similar to this when I was in high school. The entire thing was just so beautifully written with so much care and attention to latinx culture as well as lgbtq+ issues. Highly recommend. This is one of my new favorites!!

Cemetery Boys owns a piece of my heart (and these kids need a break)

God, I absolutely adored this book. I cried, I awwwwed, I laughed, and gasped.

The reading was just extraordinary and the story itself gave me goosebumps. It was so beautiful and (if yadriel permits) all of these kids need a damn hug...and a happily every after...and that sequel 👀

Please, please, please read/listen to this book and just sit back and enjoy the (entirely too stressful at times) ride.

Fantastic story!

I never leave reviews- let me just get that out of the way.
This book, and I'm not even finished listening, is fantastic. I love the dynamic personalities, the struggles Yadriel goes through...
The narrator drove it home for me. I can't wait to finish it, so I can listen to it again.

The Audiobook is AMAZING!

Wow! Wow! Wow!

First of all, the book is amazing. I’d love it ANY format, but the narrator brings this story to life in a fantastically vibrant way. Urban Fantasy is one of my favorite genres and this is an amazing story. (I mean, who doesn’t love a good ghost story?!)

The only thing that I didn’t like was thinking I had 20 minutes left of the story and the last 17 minutes was an interview between the narrator and the author. (I loved the interview and it was also fantastic, but I wasn’t ready for the story to be over.)

I just finished the book and I want to listen again.

*Update: I’m seriously on my 3rd re-listen this week. Love it just as much as I did the 1st time, and I highly recommend it!

New Favorite

It's been a while since I read a book and loved every minute of it. Cemetery Boys was absolute perfection from start to finish. There was literally nothing I didn't love about this book. Plus, the narrator (who actually is trans which is so great!) is incredible. I literally cannot recommend this book highly enough. Would give 10 stars if I could.

I laughed, I cried, I couldn’t stop listening

Oh my god, this book was amazing.
The book itself was so so so good—rich + detailed characters, super cool concept, and a plot that had me constantly guessing at how the book would end. I predicted a few things, but as a whole the ending was so surprising and amazing.
The narrator makes this book even better. I don’t know shit about Spanish, and if I’d just been reading this I would’ve stumbled over every Spanish word + definitely would’ve been mentally pronouncing the characters’ names wrong. The voices he used for each character were subtle but distinct, and I really enjoyed the narration!
I can’t recommend this audiobook enough!

Like the narrator was destined to read this story

Listening to this book felt like fate aligning, like the perfect storm of kismet energy. Voice actor was irreplaceable, absolutely can’t imagine anyone else performing this story. Author has earned a fan for life. Worth the time, worth the credit. I would protect these characters at any cost!

underwhelming

I dont like giving negative reviews so I will be brief. I didnt find this book to be well written. The story was intresting but predictable and it had many tropes that I dont particularly enjoy. If it didn't have the representation I wouldn't have read it. I think it fits better targeted at a younger audience, kids between the ages of 11 to 17. I would have adored it back then I am certain.

Vibrant, funny, touching and magical

You will fall in love with Yadriel, Julian & Mariza, and the magical world Aidan Thomas writes, which celebrates LatinX culture and is only really a breath more magical than the vibrant reality. Avi Roque narrates it beautifully.

Utter Book Magic

By the end of chapter one I had tears in my eyes so I knew this was going to be one hell of a ride and I was right. It gripped me, it moved , it made me laugh and it dealt with some heavy themes with the deftest of touch. I just adored this story and the wonderful characters in it. As a parent of a trans teen I am so so grateful this book exists . Thank you Aiden Thomas for writing it ❤️p.s Avi Roque did a brilliant job bringing these characters to life too on the audiobook ❤️

Excellent trans rep!

I was super hyped for this book, so I was thrilled to find it available as an audiobook so soon. I've just finished it and I can say that it (mostly) lived up to that hype!! I absolutely ADORED the characterisation and the premise itself was brilliant. I loved the burgeoning relationship between the boys, and the fierceness of their feelings for one another was a real highlight for me.

The only reason I haven't given this the full stars is that it lacks on one major front for me: the author is desperately intent on not using "said" whenever a character speaks and that ruined it for me a little bit as everyone is uttering or whispering or hissing under their breath and it's really pretty jarring at times. Now, the other reason wouldn't have lost it a star on its own, but I did also think the overall plot was lacking and the foreshadowing was incredibly heavy handed, but I don't think that's entirely a problem given that this is a YA, especially as the characterisation and romance between the boys is more of the focus. That said, this probably could have been rated for a slightly younger audience.

Overall, I enjoyed this book and I especially love that it was narrated by someone who is trans Latinx because that definitely levels up the narration.
