Story
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

There’s only one rule in the world I come from. Keep our existence a secret. Period. The day my sister broke that rule one too many times, I knew there would be consequences. I expected us to be sent to one of those schools for “troubled” kids - and maybe Daizlei Academy was, in a way. But really, it was far more complicated than that. You see, I thought that world had forgotten me. Forgotten us. For years we were left alone, and one day...we weren’t. It was only when I got there that I remembered the second rule: Trust no one.

Yesterday I was a teenager waiting tables in Manhattan, and today, monsters exist and I can see them. Overnight I’m thrown into the realm of the Watchers, a society of earthbound angels split into two factions: the Shades, whose powerful dark magic is given to them by the fallen angels, and the Lumens, whose abilities are bestowed on them by the archangels of Avalon. They’re on opposite sides of a brutal war, and I only have a few days to pick which side I want to join. I’m ready to choose when the Shades force my hand by cursing someone I love.

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. My whole world changed when I stepped inside the academy. Nothing is right about this place or the other students in it. Here I am, a mere mortal among gods...or monsters. I still can't decide which of these warring factions I belong to, if I belong at all. I only know the one thing that unites them is their hatred of me. Then there's Jaxon Vega. A vampire with deadly secrets who hasn't felt anything for a hundred years. But there's something about him that calls to me, something broken in him that somehow fits with what's broken in me. Which could spell death for us all.

This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. Finding out on your 16th birthday you're a shape-shifting dragon is tough to swallow. Being hauled off to an elite boarding school is enough to choke on. Since Bryn is the only crossbreed at the Institute for Excellence, all eyes are on her, but it's a particular black dragon, Zavien, who catches her attention. Zavien is tired of the Directorate's rules. Segregated clans, being told who to love, and close-minded leaders make freedom of choice almost impossible. The new girl with the striped hair is a breath of fresh air, and with Bryn's help, they may be able to change the rules.

Unfortunately, not all people from magical bloodlines have powers, and at 22, I’m several years past the age they usually appear. So I’ve resigned myself to a boring, magic-less life. Then something strange happens. I get stuck in the middle of a bar fight, and instead of just punching the guy back, I blow a hole in the wall. So...I guess I do have powers. But they’re unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. This shit is definitely not normal. And it seems the magical authorities agree. I can go to school, learn to control my magic. Or they’ll take it away. Permanently.

Story
The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: Become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway.

Perfect
I read this book before I got it on audible, and it still gets me right in the heart. Still one of my favorite books, if not my all time favorite. The narrative was perfect. Thank you

so so good
perfect ending. I cried quite a bit. the narrator did a picture perfect job too. only thing about the authors writing that kept popping up too many times was that the main character said I DONT OR DIDNT LIKE THAT AT ALL. That line was so unnecessary and overused. but besides that I loved the whole series.

Truly Wonderful
I really enjoyed this book series! The first book hooked me and dragged me in until I finished the entire series. I felt this book was long and drawn out, like there was so much that the author still wanted to wrap up but didn’t have the time do so it ended up all in the final book.
There were some pivotal moments throughout this book and other books in the series that I felt needed more attention. Some moments I wish would end and others I wanted more but then it was over.
I loved the character growth we saw in Blake, his darkness was so strong and all consuming at the beginning of the serious, seeing how he overcame his past was amazing.
Elena I felt lacked growth, at a few points I wanted to stop listening because she would make me so angry, but I pushed on. Elena found her voice on a few occasions and she stood up for herself and what she believed in, but she always went back to separating herself when something happened or making accusations and refusing to listen to those around her because she felt she was always right no matter how dumb it sounded.
We needed a stronger ending! This book series is so phenomenal, I couldn’t wait to see how it ended. I was so disappointed, an epilogue with a time-lapse would have been a great way to allow us as readers to have closure, I just left the ending was weak.
I would absolutely recommend this book, although some of the story fell short of my expectations I did like listening to the series and enjoyed what the authors work.

Best series ever!
The entire series was the best I have ever listened to. The ending was what I wanted but didn’t expect. The narration was amazing, but what writing skill the author has. Thank you.

The ride was delicious and fun
The way she told the tale in different points of view, and the fast pace she did so. I appreciated tying up loose ends in order for the heroine could then live by. Fantastic and the narrators also did a wonderful job also. Would love more adventures with this series too. Thank you for a fun and adventurous story!

Re-read, again.
Great book! This is the third time I have read/listened to it, and it still evokes emotions from me. I love that they made this an audio book and made it accessible to those who may not like to read, but experience a story that is wholesome and less mainstream.
