When reporter Ellen Gleeson gets a "Have You Seen This Child?" flyer in the mail, she almost throws it away. But something about it makes her look again, and her heart stops—the child in the photo is identical to her adopted son, Will. Publisher's summary
Best-selling and award-winning author Lisa Scottoline reaches new heights with this riveting novel about how a single decision can undo a family, how our past can derail our present, and how not guilty doesn't always mean innocent.
Allie Garvey is heading home to the funeral of a childhood friend. Allie is not only grief-stricken, she's full of dread. Because going home means seeing the other two people with whom she shares an unbearable secret.
Twenty years earlier, a horrific incident shattered the lives of five teenagers, including Allie. Drinking and partying in the woods, they played a dangerous prank that went tragically wrong, turning deadly. The teenagers kept what happened a secret, believing that getting caught would be the worst thing that could happen. But time has taught Allie otherwise. Not getting caught was far worse.
Allie has been haunted for two decades by what she and the others did, and by the fact that she never told a soul. The dark secret has eaten away at her, distancing her from everyone she loves, including her husband. Because she wasn't punished by the law, Allie has punished herself, and it's a life sentence.
Now, Allie stands on the precipice of losing everything. She's ready for a reckoning, determined to learn how the prank went so horribly wrong. She digs to unearth the truth, but reaches a shocking conclusion that she never saw coming - and neither will the listener.
A deeply emotional examination of family, marriage, and the true nature of justice, Someone Knows is Lisa Scottoline's most powerful novel to date. Startling, addictive, and with an ending that's impossible to forget, this is a tour de force by a beloved author at the top of her game.
Critic reviews
“Pure gold...a tour de force, a stunner of a thriller in which ‘knowing’ becomes a wholly subjective term.” (Providence Journal)
“[A] heartfelt tale that touches on family, marriage, justice, and how emotional wounds drive the choices people make. Scottoline’s fans will be well satisfied.” (Publishers Weekly)
“Scottoline fills the pages with twists and turns and plenty of skeletons in family closets...[fans] will race to the end.” (Booklist)

Do you like sap?
Lisa is a good writer but tends to be too sappy and it gets tiresome before the end of the book. Her women protagonists tend to be weak weepers and I think most women are much stronger than she portrays them.

Good. Not my favorite.
It’s a good premise. A couple of jaw dropping moments and some moments of suspense, but overall a bit predictable. Revelations at the end are a bit convoluted. Narration is excellent overall. A few swallows noticed from the male narrator, but voices are pleasant and easy to listen to, IMO.

Compulsive Read!
I started and finished this book in one day, I simply couldn’t stop listening! The best books/authors captivate and stimulate, engage our emotions and perhaps, give us something to think about and be grateful for - this book delivered all!

Boring and whiney
This book rambled on and on and on. There really didn’t seem to be a whole lot of point to the story. None of the characters were believable or likable . I kept waiting for something that never arrived. Sadly, I waited too long before I started the book to return it. I doubt I will listen to other books by this author.
