Publisher's summary

Robert Brogan was destined to be sheriff in the small town of Pride, Oregon. He moved to Pride when he was eight, after his mother's mysterious disappearance. Always following the rules and sticking up for the weak, he had only one thing in mind after graduation, tracking down his mother. But, after almost ten years of looking, with no luck, he makes his way back to his home town. But when tragedy strikes he's given the opportunity of a lifetime. Being sheriff in the small town of Pride he has the chance to pursue the girl he just couldn't keep his mind off. Amelia Blake can never forget the boy that saved her from certain danger ten years ago. When she comes home after her father's death, she only plans on a short visit, but because of her mother's health and after seeing Robert again, she is persuaded to move back home. When sparks fly she can't help finding herself falling fast for the new sheriff in town.

Short listen which was enjoyable

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When he lost his mother and they found her

Any additional comments?

This was a short sweet listen the author gives you a little mystery as well as a cute sweet romance. There is nothing worse than being a small child losing your father and having your mother come up missing. This can destroy a young child not knowing why, when or how she left. The book starts off with Robert losing his mother and the trying time he had. This was a very heartbreaking listen as he tries to make them understand his mother would never have left him with no one listening to his cries it just breaks your heart. He then moves out of state with his aunt who adores him. The book moves on to ten years later when he really gets to know Amelia when he saves her most likely from a rape. We than move ahead another 10 years to him coming back to pride working for Amelia father. This is when the book really takes off the author covers a lot in a short time never leaving anything out or you guessing as to what will happen.

Robert life has always been about finding his mother and the answers to her leaving him. Years later as an adult this still haunts him. He has had a very happy loving time with his aunt but she is still not his mother. The book is mostly about hunting down his mother and her than boyfriend. When both Robert and Amelia both come home they start seeing each other. There is a great attraction as it was many years ago the pull is strong as these two become very close and fall in love.

Tanya Eby does a great narration of this story. I have always liked her character voices. It is easy to tell if it is male or female. She never leaves you guess as to who is saying what. I did hear more of her accent in this one more than in the others. The audio it’s self is smooth with no background noise. If any editing was done you can’t tell it. Her voice is smooth and clear, she hits the correct tones and gives life to the audio. I am always happy to listen to her audios and look forward to listening to more from her.

The author never said who or what broke into Roberts’s home and trashed it. It would have been nice to know. I was glad to see he had closure as he builds a life with Amelia. This was a cute listen you can have finished in not time. Me I got my front yard mowed and had the pleasure of listening to the author and narrators story. I always enjoy Ms. Sanders short stories they are always full of some little mystery as she gives you a heartwarming romance. You can get this book for free if you sign up for her newsletter. I believe this was one of those you can buy the book and get the audio for 1.99 which is the way I went. It is worth your time and a pleasant read. I really enjoy it.

Like the storyline but not the narrator

I was looking forward to the series but just can’t listen to any more books narrated by Tanya Eby. Her tone is the same in all books. The way her voice raises in volume at the end of every sentence just gets too old.

Loved the idea.

I really enjoyed this story line. Loved the idea of this being their second chance and loved that he saved her when they were young. I liked both of the characters. I just wish it was longer. I knew going in it was going to be a short read, but I had trouble connecting with the characters and their relationship because it felt a little rushed. Perhaps there is more of them in the rest of the series that will provide more of their relationship.

The narration was well done. I'm sure I will listen to Tanya Eby again.
