Out with a bang

It is always bittersweet to me when I come to the end of a series. A universe that you fall in love with and spend so much time getting to know the characters deserves a fond farewell. That is what I got here, no more and no less. If you have gotten to this point in the series then sit back and enjoy the finale. It is worth your time.

Outstanding book and audiobook

Luke did an outstanding job narrated this book series, it felt like 10 different individuals were all here. Glad I could listen to this series.

Great finally!

Enjoyed the story line, action, and ending. The story leaves enough open story lines for another series but neatly closes the story of some characters.

Outstanding

I thoroughly enjoyed the last installment in this saga! I gave it 5 stars across the board, but wish I could give the narrator's performance more than a mere 5 stars. Excellent acting.

An excellent end to a great series

I have thoroughly enjoyed the ember war saga from start to finish. The series is an excellent blend of sci-fi, military action, humor and drama. I have come to love the characters within the series with the help of the amazing delivery of narrator Luke Daniels.

I have one criticism and that is how religion is portrayed in this series. It is clear that the author Richard Fox has clearly made Christianity the de facto good religion for both the characters in the book but humanity as a whole. The only other religion discussed for humanity is Islam and that was only in the context of how a ISIS caliphate conquered Europe for a time ( introducing draconian laws and oppression) until a literal crusade retook Europe. This to me was very jingoistic to sum up an entire religion's representation that way. The rise of some sort of Islamic boogie man in Europe and a series of wars with China (having taken place before the first book) where China committed numerous war crimes speaks of a very America centered view in world politics ( though this is not surprising for a West Point graduate in the author Richard Fox).

I know the bulk of my review has been focused on the negative but as this is the final book in the series I wanted to take the time to air that one but complex criticism.

Honestly loved this series and have been enjoying the Terran Armor Corps series as well. I am looking forward to reading more books set in the Ember War universe ( I haven't started any of the Terra Nova series yet) but I would like to see a bit more nuance given to humanity and society.and yes religion.

Fantastic series.

Where does The Xaros Reckoning rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Up there with the best.

What does Luke Daniels bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Luke is a fantastic narrator, and I now look out for books he has performed.

Any additional comments?

An excellent series, fantastic author and narrator. I would highly recommend all the books.

Good Ending

It ends the series how you expect there are no surprises, but that don't mean it was bad, it's always hard to say good bye to the characters you have got to know over 9 books, but the author does leave a lot in the last chapter to do spinoffs...

Characters can be a bit petulant

The characters seem a bit bratty and flat.

Read or listen to this series now!

Most enjoyable sci-fi series I have ever listened too! Believable characters that you feel you know. As an ex serviceman I could relate to every member of the troop. This would make an excellent Tv series or films. Thank you Richard Fox.

This NEEDS to be made into a movie Saga

I really think this would make a excellent movie sage to rival Starwars! There is no plot holes and everything is explained and worked out by the end...

If your considering this book you must have read the previous 8 and the finale does not disappoint, I loved the epilogue as well!

what a Series

I liked it all. The culmination of all of the books in the series with some unexpected outcomes. I would recommend this book and the series to any reader who enjoys adventure books. It’s not just science fiction but contains the strength and character we have come to except as our greatest human trait. There is a real story in this series, not just a bunch of scientific fiction. Well done Richard Fox, I will now have to search for other books you have written and hope they are as good.

Great series!

I've listened to a lot of sci-fi space operas. This is top 3 easy! Just the sheer scope and size of the world created in this series is enough to draw you in and keep you there for all 9 books. Wish there were more.

a rushed work

The conclusion to the series feels like a rushed work. There are too many plot lines which are run shallow as the ideas are not filled in depth. should have been split into 2 books and allowed to develop at the same rate as the other books.
