Story
In the 25th century, humans have conquered space. The advent of faster-than-light travel has opened up hundreds of habitable planets for colonization, and humans have exploited the virtually limitless space and resources for hundreds of years with impunity. So complacent have they become with the overabundance that armed conflict is a thing of the past, and their machines of war are obsolete and decrepit. What would happen if they were suddenly threatened by a terrifying new enemy?

We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Story
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

He would try harder. With six hours before his little girl’s fourth birthday party, he saw the anomaly. One wall was too short. Plenty of time to tear out a panel and look behind it. Publisher's summary
Book 1: Albion Lost:
For centuries, the Daegon waited. They plotted. And now they are ready to strike.
The core worlds of settled space enjoy a tenuous peace, unaware and ill prepared for the threat building beyond the furthest reaches of humanity. The star kingdom of Albion stands as a shining light of justice and mercy in a harsh galaxy, and they will be the first to suffer the Daegon's fury.
Defying his low born status, and despite his self-doubt, Commodore Thomas Gage has risen through the ranks by sheer grit and determination, defending Albion from brutal pirate clans. And when the onslaught comes, Gage and his fleet may be Albion's last hope for freedom.
Book 2: The Long March:
Albion burns beneath Daegon rule.
Commodore Thomas Gage and his fleet, safeguarding the last of the Albion Royal Family, are on the run. Hunting them, a ruthless Daegon commander will stop at nothing to crush Albion's only remaining free force.
To find sanctuary beyond their enemy's reach, the battle-damaged fleet must cut through a hostile and dangerous region of space known as the Kigeli Nebula. But to secure passage, Gage must strike a deal with an old enemy who wants nothing more than to fulfill a vendetta and see the commodore dead.
Facing threats ahead, behind and from within, Gage must lead his fleet down the long march to freedom.
Exiled Fleet is a new military science-fiction series for fans of Honor Harrington, Earth Alone, and Old Man's War from the author of the best-selling Ember War Saga.

Very good series ... so far
I was prepared to find out that this was of less interest than Richard Fox's other excellent novels due to the decision to package both books 1&2 as a single offering. I'm please to state that, on the contrary, it was a very good set of books. Even though most of the battle sections were in space, something I enjoy less than ground encounters, I was surprise to find that these space encounters were really quite exciting.
A lot of what makes this series enjoyable is how Fox set up a perfect storm of events that allowed a lowly class officer to end up commanding what remains of Albion's space fleet. This, along with class of characters that supported the story. There's snooty royals, advanced armored mercenaries, an impossibly advance invasion force of unknown human origin, mimics and, of course, PIRATES!
Get this book combination, you'll not be disappointed.

I loved the Emberverse, and to be honest, was a little hesitant to jump into a completely new universe, but The Exiled Fleet is fantastic.
Excellent universe, completely different, but completely entertaining. Great characters and a story that's easy to get lost in.

WOW, ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! WELL WRITTEN & PERFORMED.
Kept me awake right through the night. Great action and strong protagonist. The enemy, the Daegon is brutal and cruel. Commodore Thomas Gage, the protagonist had to run with his remaining fleet to save the last member of the royal family from the Daegons who are hunting them. Very well written sci/space opera. I am glad I gave this a try. I am new to to the author, Richard Fox. I like his style of writing. Mark Boyett did an excellent performance on all the different characters. Well worth a credit. I am looking forward to the next book.

Not for me
Clearly this is a pretty well written and performed audiobook, but I just could not engage with it at all. I couldn’t actually finish it as I just drifted off and stopped listening as I was so Poorly engaged.
To me, it feels a little more like an historical military novel placed in a sci-if setting and I’m certain there will be a huge number of people who would enjoy it - and good luck to them.

very well written and read
Loved the book need to know what happened next. Left me hanging, the fight sequencies were gripping, and the use of character chapters works very well.

Excellent Book
Hey this was a great book i have loved the development of characters> However the narrator needs to work on his Aussie Accent - the one he uses makes us all sound like boguns!

Not what I expected
Like a lot of stories it started out a little slow but it picked up the pace with some serious action. Not what I expected after reading some of the reviews. It seems that the average reviewer either gives everything 5 stars if they liked a book or 1 star if they want to troll the writer or the book.
The writer did a good job with the description for the space battles and the voice actor did a great job of bringing the book to life. I kept on wanting the main characters to escape from the evil Dagan. A few narrow and exciting escapes and plenty of hardship makes for a really good read.
This publishers pack gives you the first two books in the series that I will be wanting to read/listen to. I found it to be great value.
I rate books on the following system:
1 star = unreadable
2 stars = an unenjoyable read
3 stars = a good book/enjoyable
4 stars = a great book, a must read for me.
5 stars = unbelievably great, a masterpiece.
I gave this publishers pack of the Exiled Fleet 4 stars, I really enjoyed this once I got into the story.

5 Stars for Exiled Fleet
Exiled Fleet is a fast moving and powerful start to what I feel will be an amazing series.

Disappointing detail
If the author had bothered to understand and then explain the essentials of orbital and intra system motion, the story may just have held up.
Few scifi authors bother to establish believable sub-light flight timelines, compressing manoeuvring into battles from days to minutes. It changes the whole dynamic and should not be written as if laws of motion are optional.
And why make the baddies so bad. Pure evil cultures have no possibility to develop beyond the crawling through the slime stage. The arch bad guys always get the drop on the link writes heroes.
Time for another author!

No hook and uninspired.
The book started so boring that I could not bother to pay attention.
opening of a book needs to do something for character, setting out plot for me. this book doesn't do that at all. I couldn't handle more than 30 minutes.
At least it was free. I guess.

Great listen
Bit of a slow start, however it did set the scene for a great story and I love the combat explanations from hand to hand, diving through holes in the shields and torpedoes ripping through ship armour. Almost there with the brilliant writing.
Looking forward to the next pack.
Thank you

Got it for free - almost regret it anyway
An acceptable story, performed well but mired in too many characters with too many weird names and several main character names that sound similar. This is the first of more than 20 audible books that I actually considered stopping completely before finishing because it was so bad. It does redeem itself somewhat by the end but it's borderline at this stage.
