It all started when infected bats bit a small group of humans and created what are now called vampires. Then, the male vampires knocked up some female humans, and the result was a gorgeous race of all male ash - superhuman freaks that had looks to kill. Charlie is the first female ash, aka unicorn of the Hive - the gated compound in Portland that the humans have designated to isolate vampires and ash from society.
Abigail Swish's life is nothing to brag about: gang-ridden city, orphanage style accommodations, and a matron who's kinda on the evil side. Not that she has to worry about that for much longer. She'll turn 18 soon, and then it's goodbye compound, hello dangerous streets of New York City. Of course, as her luck would have it, she doesn't make it to 18 before her world is turned upside down. One ambushed meeting with an accent-bearing, sword-wielding stranger, and suddenly her entire life as she knows it is a lie.
In Minatsol, being a dweller means that you are literally no better than dirt. In fact, dirt might actually be more useful than Willa. Her life will be one of servitude to the sols, the magic-blessed beings who could one day be chosen to become gods. At least her outer village is far removed from the cities of the sols, and she won't ever be forced to present herself to them... Until one small mistake changes everything, and Willa is awarded a position to serve at Blesswood, the top sol academy in the world - a position that she definitely did not earn.
There's something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori. Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price's attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah, Georgia. He's the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move.

Lost in despair, Alexis teeters on the edge of an abyss, her lifeline of hope fraying into a thin thread. If it snaps, she'll plunge into complete darkness. With the help of her son and her writing, she's been able to hold on. Until now. Erratic impulses, disturbing delusions and her own demonic blood threaten her sanity. When she's forced to choose between hanging onto hope or letting go to serve her Amadis purposes, she faces a decision with inconceivable sacrifices.
Alexis runs to the one place she thinks will provide answers, only to find herself at the center of another battle of good versus evil, not only with the Daemoni, not only within herself...but also against the worst opponent imaginable. But even if she wins, what will she lose?
I really enjoyed book 1 of the series and really looked forward to this 2nd book. However, I found a good portion of it unnecessarily wordy. Halfway through and towards the end, I kept wondering: how many ways will one sentence or emotion be spun on and on! It seems several paragraphs were used to describe what half a sentence would usually do. I actually got annoyed and irritated a few times. Towards the end, I just wanted it to finish.
However, it is still a good book, while not as enchanting as the first one.

Would you listen to Purpose again? Why?
The romance, the supernatural, the mystery pulls me in and im loving this story. I listened to this 11hr book in a day and night :)
Who was your favorite character and why?
Tristen duh ;)
Have you listened to any of Erin Mallon’s other performances? How does this one compare?
I wasn't a fan of her in the first book because she made Alexis sound whiney and baby like. She did a better job in this book.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Their love took them all by surprise.
Any additional comments?
I just purchased the next book hopefully I will get some sleep soon lol
