Publisher's summary

Anthony Tinoco is just an average guy looking forward to his first day at college. Unfortunately, he gets lost on the huge campus, and when he follows a hot girl to what he thinks may be his first class, he's accidentally introduced to a new world full of action and adventure. A world that exists in parallel with our own, the System. Now, Anthony is getting new skills for doing every day tasks, gaining levels from fighting monsters, and experiencing adventures he never thought possible.

Not everyone is happy to see someone like Anthony with these new powers, and they are willing to do whatever it takes to stop him from using them. Including murder.

Will he be able to handle these strange new powers? Or will his enemies win and force him back to his normal boring life?

Project Alpha is a lit-RPG adventure.

A great portal book with slice of live adventure

The story and the narration by Jill Smith were excellent. It took a while to get to the gaming aspect of the story but it picks up after that. I plan on purchasing the next book in audible format when it comes out and liked it enough that I would listen again if I have nothing else to listen to

Mejia does it again

Great character development and interesting story, can't wait for the next book. Not sure if this series is better than his other one but it is at least on par. worth a listen.

Great Main Character

Many books of this type have bland main characters...they don't have enough personality to hate or love them, but you tend to root for them just because they're the main character. Not this book....Anthony comes across as a genuine 18-year-old, full of both charm and aggravation.

The book is funny...I laughed out loud a few times. The female narrator does a reasonable job with the male protagonist, but only because young guys' voices aren't as deep as they will become. There were sections of the book where it seemed she was reading the text for the first time, which detracted from the smooth flow of narration.

I look forward to the next installment.

Wish there was another book to continue the story.

Enjoyed how the story evolved. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Instead of going to an RPG world the world that we live in is actually an RPG game.

My first by Mejia

I’ve been impressed by the author’s reviews of other LitRPG books so I checked this one out. I thought it was great, only bummed that there’s no book 2 yet. He has another series that I’m planning on reading. The only issue I had was with narrator pronouncing the villain’s name “ah-din” instead of “oh-din”, but its inconsequential enough to not knock it down a star. It is a female narrator and I know some people have a disconnect between females narrating male POV or vica-versa. So if that bothers you, just know that. Hope he plans on releasing book 2!

Cool Concept, bad main character

Really enjoyed the concept and there is a lot that can be done with that world. I was just very disappointed with the main character.

A fun book

This book is as fun as Mejia's other books. He writes in a tone the feels friendly towards the feminist frame of mind.

fun story

The only problems I had with the book were the misuse of unconscious vs subconscious, but that could have been the character. The narrator pronounced ensign as En Sine instead of En Sin. Other than that, the references to video games and movie were enjoyable and I thought the story moved along nicely. I am glad I picked this up. I await the next volume in the series.

Glad I picked it up.

I grinned like a fool through this book. MC felt genuine and the banter throughout the book was well... amazeballs! Only three things spoiled a little fun for me though. The pronunciation of Luffy and Samus made me cringe a little. Dungeon core was changed to dungeon seed after it was introduced. Those small things didn't take away anything though because this book was tons of fun. So so glad I picked up this book.
