Trazyn, a collector of historical oddities, presides over a gallery full of the most dangerous artefacts - and people - of the galactic past. Now, cast adrift from the Emperor's light and hunted as heretics after their monstrous betrayal, the Night Lords clad themselves in symbols of death and fight the Long War, bringing pain and terror to all who worship the corpse-god of Terra. A summons from Warmaster Abaddon sends these rebels on a dangerous journey that leads inexorably to a conflict with the Emperor's chosen warriors, the Blood Angels.

The quintessential 40K novel
There is no question in my mind that this first part of the Horus Heresy-series of books is one of the absolute greatest. The writing of Mr Abnett is superb and the narration of Toby Longworth is really good.
Loken was sublimely brought to life in this one!
Can't wait to listen to the other books in this series.

Greatest Book of the Heresy
absolutely amazing story of the BEST primarch. I do prefer the vocal stylings of Martyn Ellis over Toby Longworth but Toby is one of the greatest narrators out there and the unabridged version of the book is the best.

amazing book filled with wonder
such a dreamy book
I freaking love it. It gives a view of who was horus and the other primarchs before the heresy and it tells you how they felt and what drove them to become traitors.

For a Warhammer 40k player, great listen
I listened to this audiobook while painting my Warhammer 40k Space Marines and it was a great combination.
I was interested in the battles but stayed for the characters. By the time of writing this review I'm just finishing book 2, False Gods, and starting Book 3.
Give it a try!

Great oration and book
This was my first warhammer book and to be honest as a traditional sci fan I was skeptical about it since I only played the pc game in the warhammer universe. This is a really good book in a really interesting universe and I highly recommend it to anyone with even a passing interest in exploring the warhammer universe. Great characters, dialogue and plot. Looking forward to listening to all the warhammer book on audible.
