Critic Reviews

"The third novel of Hamilton's Anita Blake series has the petite necromancer fighting a giant cobra and a rogue vampire, Alejandro, who wants her for his human servant. Anita is still resisting the advances of Jean-Claude, St. Louis's master vampire, but she does need him on her side, if not in her bed. Anita's reluctant involvement in the odd goings-on at the supernatural Circus of the Damned introduces her to Richard, the werewolf of her dreams, and Larry, her powerful but nervous partner in zombie-raising. Mystery fans will love the tightly plotted, Paretsky-esque action, and horror fans will love just about everything in this unusual series." (Amazon.com review)
"One of the most fascinating fictional heroines since Scarlett O'Hara-and a hell of a lot more fun than most." (Publishers Weekly)

Vampires, Werewolves and Snake gods...oh my

This book was fun. Since I have read all of the older books first and then came back to the first books I enjoyed this book for a few reasons. I love how Anita is confused by the monsters and the more confused and scared she gets the more aggressive and violent she gets. How Jean-Claude is clumsy and really pushes her but it seems to always back fire on him. I like how he is not sure how to handle her. I like that she is learning that Jean-Claude is not nearly as bad as most of the other Vamps. I also like to see that Richard was even blind to her back in the beginning of this series. He couldn’t swallow her out there fighting the bad guys and risking her life. He still is trying to find a way to wrap her in cotton and take away who and what she is. She is one tuff cookie our little necromancer is !!!!! :)

My favorite series of all time!

I think I like this series more than I liked the Harry Potter books and that's saying something. Anita Blake is my favorite character of all time next to Stiles. The way her character grows and expands her horizons and begins to accept that the universe isn't out to get her or play a practical joke. The universe is bringing to her exactly what she needs. In the process she improves the lives of a lot of people.

Drags you in and leaves you thirsting for more

Great action description, great characters, great story line. I adore Mr. Oliver and his group. It's a really unique stance on the villains.

I love Anita Blake

The story is fascinating, and Anita is amazing as ever. She is the toughest and strongest female character ai have to ever read about, and it's so good, I couldn't stop listening to it, I wanted to go slow, but I finished it in few days.

The narrative only got four start because of name mispronunciation

Stephan is pronounced with the ph sounding like an f not a v, if his name was pronounced with a v it would be spelled Steven!!!! I have read these books a number of times and I was freaking out thinking I had forgotten a long dead character. Please fix your pronunciation of names in future books. You are a fabulous narrator and I really don't like being irritated by a single mispronounced name but he and his brother are among my favorite characters.

Classic Anita

I love it when she meets Richard, even though she was always meant for Jean Claude. I have re-read every story. I still love this series.
