Publisher's Summary

This publisher's pack contains Society (book three) and Hope (book four) of the After It Happened series.

Society, book three:

Set in the UK in the immediate aftermath of a mysterious illness which swept the country and left millions dead, the series follows the trials facing a reluctant hero, Dan, and the group he forms around him. They must battle the elements, find sufficient supplies and equipment to survive, and protect themselves against the most destructive force on the planet: other people.

The survivors have prospered, but their home is an enticing prospect for others to take. Besieged, they must respond with a savagery to dissuade further attempts.

Is this the end of society?

Hope, book four:

In the aftermath of the shocking revelations about the propagation of the human race, Dan latches on to a desperate chance to change the future which many have accepted. The group splits and Dan leads his closest allies on an uncertain journey to find a solution. They find themselves battling against the elements, against new foes, and above all, against time.

They must succeed.

They must have hope.

Can’t wait for next installment!

I’m listened to most of the popular PA books and this is my favorite so far. There is good character development and the storyline is quick and engaging. I love how conflicts come and go instead of a long build to a single conflict at the end. Usually by book 4 I’m losing interest but I found myself liking each book more! Release the next book quick!!!

What a story!

The series started a little slow but when it got traction it took off. I’ve read and listen to many stories in this genre. From William R. Forstchen to A. America there is no doubt Devon holds and exceeds expectations. Enjoyable story undoubtedly you will like.

Can't Wait to Read the Next Installment

If you could sum up After It Happened in three words, what would they be?

Survival
Botany
Africa

What other book might you compare After It Happened to and why?

Sara Lyons Fleming has a City series Mordacious and Peripetia. This series, in regards to good people put into difficult situations of survival, reminds me of Fleming's work. In Fleming's case, the apocalypse is zombie related.

Have you listened to any of R.C. Bray’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

YES. Bray is a very talented orator. I've hard him read aloud various books - most of them with a Mountain Man, end of the world theme. My first was Deviant about Ed Gein, the serial killer many say inspired the character Norman Bates in Psycho, as well as being cited as the inspiration for Leatherface.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Nope. Just the typical anxiety about who may not make it.

Any additional comments?

If you are into post-apocalyptic survival, you'll enjoy this series.

Fantastic Series! Cant wait for the next one...

Great story and the narration is terrific. I was hooked after the first chapter of book one and I find myself waiting for the next book to come out on audible. I could easily listen to the whole book straight through but I force myself to go to work and wait until my ride home to continue!! I've listened to a few post apocalyptic books but the whole zombie thing just gets tiring, I don't really get the attraction of the zombie stories but to each his own. I prefer this story line as it opens my imagination as to what would really happen if 99% of the population was suddenly gone and how would we cope with the struggle to survive. The inevitable conflict that arises and the reinvention of basic technology is all very interesting to me. I highly recommend this series.

I love Leah's character development

I don't know how Devon C. Ford balanced the different groups of people surviving after it happened. But, I was totally involved with each group's problems and triumphs. It's like listening to a person balancing 3 or 4 plates on his fingers, whilst riding a unicycle on a chair. Sounds impossible, but Ford does it.

High Octane Society!

This series has proved to be a real find.  Each of the books in the first four follows the same group but has its own unique flavour.  The first two were largely about the initial group forming and then a very logical and structured progression towards a new society.  Book 3, Society,  is much more explosive, it is almost non-stop action as the new homeland is threatened in all manner of ways.  The group also find ways to investigate the origins of the pandemic.  The epilogue feels hugely ominous, it's extremely well done.

Then the fourth book. Hope, takes off in yet another completely new direction as the group splits with Dan leading a team on the start of an epic journey desperate to find answers. During both books the characters continue to develop, especially Leah and Ash.  Yes the dog steals the show at times!  The story is split between Dan's group and the enormous struggle faced by those left behind after losing much of the group's driving force.

RC Bray, I don't think there's much I can say here that hasn't already been said.  Superb, and he is even more suited to these latest two books with their increased tension and higher octane levels.

In short this is becoming an extremely strong series especially with the excellent decision to provide these value for money / credit publisher's packs.

Nice story well delivered

If you're into post apocalyptic stories not obsessed with violence then this is for you. That's not to say that there isn't violence but it's appropriate. There are several well developed characters which you find yourself invested in.
A few of the twists are a bit difficult to accept but the story tellers manages to sell them - just about.

Post-Apocalyptic GOLD

The continuation of this epic post-apocalyptic British survival story with RC Bray narration is exceptional. Thanks to Mr Ford for your excellent research on actual vehicle, ground and air, and weapons systems makes for a most believable story line; combined with the awesomeness of Dan and Nikita dare I say it overtakes the other survival post-apocalyptic masterpiece 'the Remaining'. When is book five being Brayed?????

Bit more depressing than the 1st book

Brilliant series, wish the next book was available.

Takes a good look at the idea of thinking about the bigger picture and not just the welfare of a small group of people.
