Publisher's summary

Southern belle BeBe Loudermilk has lost all her worldly possessions, thanks to a brief but disastrous relationship with the gorgeous Reddy, an "investment counselor" who turns out to be a con man. All that's left is a ramshackle 1950s motel on Tybee Island, an eccentric beach town that calls itself a drinking village with a fishing problem.

Breeze Inn is a place where the very classy BeBe wouldn't normally be caught dead, but with no alternative, she moves into the manager's unit, vowing to make magic out of mud. The work is grueling, especially dealing with the bad-tempered caretaker, a fishing captain named Harry who's trying to earn enough dough to get his boat out of hock. With the help of Harry and her junking friend Weezie, BeBe soon has the motel spiffed up and attracting paying guests.

Then there's a sighting of Reddy in Fort Lauderdale, and BeBe decides to go after him. She puts together a posse, and with the irrepressible Granddaddy Loudermilk snoring in the backseat of the Buick, heads south. The plan is to carry out a sting that may be just a little bit outside the law but that, with any luck at all, will retrieve BeBe's fortune and put the dastardly Reddy in jail, where he belongs. And maybe Harry, who's looking more hunky every day, will finally get his boat back.

Critic reviews

"Andrews writes with tongue firmly in cheek, presenting a cast of eccentric characters and a plot that's decidedly over-the-top." (Publishers Weekly)

The Narration is Simply Awful...story is ok.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

No. I didn't pay attention when I purchased the audio book, so it's completely on me that I missed the fact that it was abridged. I won't make that mistake again - I felt like I was missing big chunks of the story. I truly enjoyed Savannah Blues, but the narration on Savannah Breeze is so distracting that I ended up purchasing the actual book just to finish the story. The narrator's impression of Weezie makes one think of a female impersonator. I've listened to other books that Isabel Keating has narrated and didn't find them nearly as impossible to get through as Savannah Breeze.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Isabel Keating?

Kathleen McInerney

Lack of Quality Control for Book 2

Ugh, I couldn't get past chapter 5 and I can't finish it. I loved Book 1, Savannah Blue, and couldn't wait to download book 2. The story is a great pick up from book 1, but the reader blew it. Book 1's reader painted a picture of proper women in Savannah with a little grit. The reader for book 2 makes these ladies sound like hillbillies and she doesn't pronounce the main characters name the same as in book 1. Book one BeBe was pronounced "Bay Bay" and book 2 pronounced "Bee Bee". I think Book 1 is most likely a closer interpretation of MK Andrews intent since Book 2 sounds like it's more representative of life in the mountains as opposed to Savannah. Who listens to these books before they are released to ensure consistency?! I can't finish it: epic disappointment - money lost, i bought it, I didn't wait and get it with my credit.

Wish it wasn’t abridged!

I’d read the print version of this book years ago and really enjoyed it, so I was glad to find the audiobook version on Audible. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize at the time when I purchased it, that it is an abridged version. So much of the original story and details were omitted that it hardly seemed like the same book. ☹️ I don’t understand why this book and a few other Mary Kay Andrews audiobooks only have an abridged version while so many of her other audiobooks have the full unabridged version on Audible! To be honest, I’m really not sure why anyone would even want an abridged version of any of Mary Kay Andrews’ audiobooks, since you lose so much of the plot and details in the abridged version. I really hope the folks at Audible will consider providing the full unabridged versions of all of Mary Kay Andrews’ books in the future.

entertaining reverse swindle

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I was captivated by the beginning of the book and the story was fun. Was disappointed that about 2/3rds through the book it got too racy for my comfort. The story is about a women who is swindled out of all she has by a smooth gentlemen who is not what he portrayed and about how she decided to find him and get back what he took, falling in love in the meantime with someone else.

Refreshing

The story line was great. Ms Andrews was able to incorporate many players in this storyline and bring them all together exceptionally well. I will definitely be reading other books by this wonderful writer.
