Publisher's Summary

Summer begins with Mary Kay Andrews, in this delightful summer story about flipping houses, and finding true love.

"Narrator Kathleen McInerney exudes beach-read energy in this entertaining audiobook....Listeners will be swept up in the complicated plot and enjoy the entire wild ride." -AudioFile on The Homewreckers

Hattie Kavanaugh went to work restoring homes for Kavanaugh & Son Restorations at eighteen, married the boss’s son at twenty, and became a widow at twenty-five. Now, she’s passionate about her work, but that’s the only passion in her life. “Never love something that can’t love you back,” is advice her father-in-law gives her, but Hattie doesn’t follow it and falls head-over-heels for a money pit of a house. She’s determined to make it work, but disaster after disaster occurs, and Hattie’s dream might cost Kavanaugh & Son their livelihood. Hattie needs money, and fast.

When a slick Hollywood producer shows up in her hometown of Savannah, Georgia, she gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: star in a beach house renovation reality show called The Homewreckers, cast against a male lead who may be a love interest, or may be the ultimate antagonist. Soon, there’s more at stake than bad pipes and dry rot: during the demolition, evidence comes to light that points to the mysterious disappearance of a young wife and mother years before.

With a burned out detective investigating the case, an arsonist on the loose, two men playing with her emotions, and layers upon layers of vintage wallpaper causing havoc, it's a question of who will flip, who will flop, and if Hattie will ever get her happily-ever-after.

Saving Savannah or Homewreckers!

Homewreckers by Mary Kay Andrews pulled me in from the very beginning. As a fan of HGTV, I could envision so many details. I loved how the book evolved and the characters were developed. Hattie and Mo appealed to me the most. The author surprised me with some events in the book. The twists were excellent! I want to thank #NetGalley and #Macmillan Audio for allowing me to listen to the pre-release audiobook. I loved it so much, I purchased my own copy of it. Kathleen McInerney was great bringing the characters to life with her voice, and had the appropriate emotions.

Wasted Credit

Boring, trashy and not up to par with her previous books. So disappointing. Wasted my credit!

Good read

I always enjoy MKA's books. They have enough twist and turns to keep you entertained. The Homewrecker is no different. I'm hoping to read about these new Savannah characters in future books.

Disappointed

Voice of Hattie was so annoying… made her seem so silly. So much potential but never really lived up to it…

Animated cartoon narration

Was only able to tolerate 30 minutes of book. The narrator's voice made feel like I was listening to a animated cartoon. Her male voice sounded like a boy barely through puberty. I could go on but will just say that I may have enjoyed the book but there was no way I could get past the narration.

plodding with forced nod to diversity

Really? Just so over this. Disappointing. Please... We listen for entertainment not proselytizing. Audible in general, this book in particular.

You Know What You’re Getting with MKA…

You know what you’re getting with a Mary Kay Andrews book … a light, enjoyable read with potentially a little mystery, and a romance included. This one’s no different. A classic “summer read.” I will say the “romance” seemed a bit rushed and maybe even a little forced … and honestly, very implausible. The narrator was too “sweet” and child-like for me, with nary a hint of a Georgia accent.

I don’t get the hype

A lot of people seemed to recommend and love this book. Personally I need more character development. I had little to no interest in any of the characters or the storyline. The only thing I found remotely interesting was the sub storyline that never really got any traction. I guess I prefer all fluff, a light beach read or to go deep. Trying to do both didn’t work here in my opinion. I could tell the narrators voice was skilled yet not the right choice for this character… Too sweet and sugary for a woman with grit and a tough life.

SPOILER ALERT …Give me a break😣

This story is about a woman who flips houses in Savanna,Ga. She gets pulled into a TV show on a network called HGPV (Give me a break), with the premise of saving old houses. She signs a contract without attorney review (cringe #1). Silently tells herself her father’s past prison stint won’t be a problem with the morality clause without asking (mistake #2). She signs the contract without asking why the name of the show has been changed from Saving Savanna to Homewreckers. (ARE YOU SERIOUS😱 #3). She uses her deceased husband’s grandmother’s engagement ring as collateral for a loan to buy the house to flip( ring worth 75,000$), (OMFG, because she has to use her own money to buy & renovate the house !!! Pulling my hair out !!!! #4. And of course she blindly signs a contract the producer of the show or network tells her to because it’s now or never🤯🤯🤯🤯. #5 and I can no longer tolerate this story. Where in the heck did this crap come from???
