Publisher's summary

For more than 300 years, Bluff House has sat above Whiskey Beach, guarding its shore - and its secrets. But to Eli Landon, it’s home.…

A Boston lawyer, Eli has weathered an intense year of public scrutiny and police investigations after being accused of - but never arrested for - the murder of his soon-to-be-ex wife.

He finds sanctuary at Bluff House, even though his beloved grandmother is in Boston recuperating from a nasty fall. Abra Walsh is always there, though. Whiskey Beach’s resident housekeeper, yoga instructor, jewelry maker, and massage therapist, Abra is a woman of many talents - including helping Eli take control of his life and clear his name. A really top Listen! Great story & well read!

This is right up there with Witness. I loved how the improbable relationship seemed to take an age to develop. I was able to listen to this Book over long journeys which seemed to be over just minutes after I had set out!
I thoroughly recommend this Book! It was beautifully narrated and had me seriously considering taking up Yoga!

Classic Nora Roberts romantic suspense

What made the experience of listening to Whiskey Beach the most enjoyable?

I always enjoy Roberts' romantic suspense stand alone novels, and this one is no exception. It's got a twisty plot (I didn't see who dunnit coming, although in retrospect I should have), and a nice, slowly developing relationship between the protagonists. Whiskey Beach doesn't have Roberts' usually well-defined cast of secondary characters, and the family relationships that make Roberts so much fun mostly take place off-stage - all the book focus is on the two main characters, really, with even the antagonists being mostly off-stage.

What other book might you compare Whiskey Beach to and why?

It's not as good as Blue Smoke, but it's better than Chasing Fire.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Peter Berkrot?

anyone. Peter Berkrot just reads the book, makes no real attempt at differentiating voices, even of the male characters - this makes it sometimes hard to follow, given that Roberts usually avoids the "he said, she said" style of dialog.

The lead character and his family are an old Boston family, and there's no attempt to sound East Coast at all - it's all read pretty much in a midwestern accent.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The very beginning when a hear-sick and weary Eli first comes to the Bluff House, his retreat from a life in Boston that had become intolerable.

Just Okay

With honesty I listened to 5 chapters but found I was too distracted by the narrators try at a female voice.

Disappointing

Not a favorite Nora Roberts. I didn't connect with the characters and I truly disliked the narrator. A disappointment.

Great story..

I liked the book for what it is, a romantic mystery. it would have been better with two performers...male and female...it was a little difficult at first to get into a male speaking for the females...and then differentiating between who was speaking. Otherwise a great Nora Roberts book when I need the sappy romance to be mixed with mystery. :)

Good story - overrated narrator

I know a lot of people swear by Luke Daniels as a narrator, and based on other reviews, he's better than whomever they had narrate it first, but I just found his female voices borderline offensive. Way too giggly and childish for my tastes, and they kept pulling me out of the story as I kept rolling my eyes at them.

I like the story, though. It might go on a little long, but it's a decent mystery with some interesting twists. If the narrator doesn't bother you like he does me, you should enjpy it.

Like Nora Roberts, You'll Like This

This was an easy and good listen. Typical Nora Roberts. The characters were well-developed, and the story was fine. I wasn't sitting on the edge of my seat to hear what was going to happen next, but it was a fine story.
