Publisher's Summary

A new standalone novel from Jodi Ellen Malpas, the best-selling author of the This Man and One Night trilogies.

Annie has never experienced the 'spark' with a guy - the kind of instant chemistry that steals your breath and blindsides you completely. Until a night out with friends brings her face to face with the wickedly sexy and mysterious Jack. It's not just a spark that ignites between them. It's an explosion. Jack promises to consume Annie, and he fully delivers on that promise.

Overwhelmed by the intensity of their one night together, Annie slips out of their hotel room. She is certain that a man who's had such a powerful impact on her and who could bend her to his will so easily must be dangerous. But she's already in too deep. And Jack isn't only dangerous. He is forbidden.

Critic Reviews

"The latest queen of erotic literature." (The Sunday Times)
"Every kiss, every sexy scene, every word between this pair owned a piece of my soul. I could read this book a hundred times and still react as if it was the first time. The Protector is a top 2016 fave for me." (Audrey Carlan, best-selling author of The Calendar Girl series)

loved it

yet another fantastic read from jodi. for those who complain about the adulterous storyline I'd just say not to be put off by this. the author has handled this subject with great sensitivity, and if I avoided every work of fiction with a topic I found offensive then my kindle library wouldn't be half as full as it is.
If I had to find fault all I can say is there are so many American terms starting to show up in a story about a London girl that's set in London. but that's just me being picky, however the English accent with American pronunciations did get a little annoying as the story went on.
10 out of 10 for the story
9 out of 10 for the naration

Story is amazing....narration not so much

What made the experience of listening to The Forbidden the most enjoyable?

The story is amazing. I'm not a fan of infidelity in my love stories, so I'm super glad I gave this story a chance. It's a beautiful story, and one I can relate to on so many levels.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Forbidden?

All of it, the story is amazing

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Julie Garthan?

All my favourite narrators are American (Andi Arndt, Elena Wolfe, Ava Eriksson) but I don't know any good English narrators to suggest. I am English, and it kind of bugs me that all English narrators seems to go over the top with the "Englishness". Julie Garthan was okay as a narrator, expressive, but unfortunately she has that same level of expression all the way through. Her tone barely changes whether drinking with friends, during the sexy scenes or during the heartbreaking scenes. Her male "voice" also isn't much of a voice at all, just the same as hers. I must stress, Julie is not annoying to listen to, but I just feel that a story with so many emotions and ups and downs, needed someone who could convey those extremes more effectively.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Story yes, narrator no.

Any additional comments?

I am so glad I read the book before I listened to the audio book. I have a feeling if I had listened first, the book would not have had the same impact on me.

Reasonable listen

Whilst I enjoyed listening to this story it fall well short of her two trilogy's .
Annie and Jacks story whilst being a forbidden subject was far too predictable IMOP .
I also feel that this book and The protector have had the wrong narrators , this one is better than the The protector but still lacking , The narration is an extremely important part of the book and getting it right can make or break a book .
Not much else to say really I know many will absolutely rave about the book others not so much hence just three stars from .

Good but...

I did enjoy this story, but felt the ending was 2 chapters too many. It also became far too cheesy. So not quite my taste.

Eh? It was o-Kay. Not my fave

The story was ok. I think I may have enjoyed the book better. I wasn't keen on the narrator. The H was a coward, but in saying that he was obviously in an abusive relationship and found that his reaction may have been natural considering all he endured. The wife seemed like a crack pot. Didn't enjoy the h character. In my opinion I think it was predictable and underwhelming. Just my opinion some may enjoy this story.
