Publisher's Summary

In the New York Times best-selling Mercy Thompson novels, the coyote shapeshifter has found her voice in the werewolf pack. But when Mercy's bond with the pack - and her mate - is broken, she'll learn what it truly means to be alone....

Attacked and abducted in her home territory, Mercy finds herself in the clutches of the most powerful vampire in the world, taken as a weapon to use against alpha werewolf Adam and the ruler of the Tri-Cities vampires. In coyote form Mercy escapes - only to find herself without money, without clothing, and alone in the heart of Europe.

Unable to contact Adam and the rest of the pack, Mercy has allies to find and enemies to fight, and she needs to figure out which is which. Ancient powers stir, and Mercy must be her agile best to avoid causing a war between vampires and werewolves, and between werewolves and werewolves. And in the heart of the ancient city of Prague, old ghosts rise....

    "Distracted - Unhappy - Disappointed"

I am fully in love with this series, and have been since the first chapter of book one. However this book threw a very unexpected and unwelcome twist when someone other than Lorelei was narrating. Not that he is terrible at it, but he does not speak with the same fluidity that she does, or in the same manner. His pauses are off and it's just wrong. We, the listeners, have developed a relationship with these characters and the narrator, Lorelei, to the point where we associate her vocal inflections to mean certain things. Her pauses are deliberate and her speech for each character has already been accepted and engrained in our minds.

At least for hose of us who have listened to every single book that comes before this one. Lorelei is a wonderful narrator and by adding in this guy, to her already wonderful narration is just plain wrong. The way he reads is infuriating, and he pauses in the wrong spots. He reads like he is in high school, a very distracting speech pattern which in turn distracts from the enjoyment of this book. I am very disappointed in the decision to have a second narrator when the first, Lorelei, is utterly perfect for the entirety of the series. Shame on you.

    Any additional comments?

I agree with most here that the male narrator was not needed. I looked forward to Lorelei's parts when he was droning on. I think that perhaps it was done to accent the time distortion between the two. My question is where did the goblins come from? Have I missed a short story somewhere?

    "Too, Too"

This isn't my favorite Mercy book. I'm to used to Lorelei King doing all the voices that the introduction of a male voice thru me. It wasn't close enough to the Adam that I'm used to. All the jumping around was a bit annoying n seriously how many times can one character be kidnapped.

    "Male narrative ruined this book."

Great book in an amazing series! The addition of the male narrator honestly ruined the whole book for me. Lorelei King is more than perfect for the complete narrative of this series. The characters portrayed by Mr. Newbern lost their strength and passion with his monotone and bland perfermance. I cannot speak to his other works but this story was not for him.

"Who decided that Lorelei needed help?"
What disappointed you about Silence Fallen?

Someone believed that they knew best about the narration of a book enough to ruin it after 9 very successful previous books. There is nothing worse than listening to a different narrator butchering the voices of the characters we have come to love over 9 books. Lorelei has them nailed and no one else is needed.

What was most disappointing about Patricia Briggs’s story?

I am not sure. I may not finish the book. If the next book has multiple narrators or somone other than Lorelei King reading I may not even continue the series.

What didn’t you like about Lorelei King and George Newbern ’s performance?

Love Lorelei's performance as always. Love her portrayal of the characters as she has developed them over the years. The addition of George to this story has really ruined this for me. It isn't that the story might not be great as always but for a loyal listener of the Mercy series it may have just ended a fan's participation.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

no idea. I stopped listening as soon as George destroyed the voices of the pack 56 minutes into a 10+ hour book. The only redeeming quality might be that if I keep listening, George will have a very minimal part in this book.

    Any additional comments?

Please ask whomever decided it would be a good idea to have George help narrate this book to sit at the back of the room and not participate in any further decision making processes.

"Lorelei King=awesome, the other guy not so much"
How could the performance have been better?

    Re-record with just Lorelei King!!

George Newbern's character representations were flat and nothing like the previous volumes in the series. Newbern's alpha Adam sounded hesitant, Warren's accent was frequently forgotten, and so on ...

"Why did you add a male narrator?"

The new male voice was not good and they should have stuck with what has worked for the last 9 books

    "Ruined by horrid male reader"
Would you consider the audio edition of Silence Fallen to be better than the print version?

    NEVER! NEVER! NEVER!
the addition of a male reader destroyed the book.
1st, the characters already have excellent voices developed over 9 books. NO CHANGE WAS NEEDED.
2nd, the male reader is VERY POOR QUALITY NARRATOR: everyone who has an accent HAS EXACTLY THE SAME FRIGGING ACCENT. Doesn't matter whether Italian or Brit, same poorly done accent which didn't work for any of the characters.
3rd, if multiple people were talking couldn't figure out half the time who the heck was talking SINCE THEY ALL SOUNDED THE SAME.
4th, no bass in ANY OF THE VOICES. Even when the text said that Adam said something in a basso tone--still same ehh voice

Who was your favorite character and why?

my favorite characters were any not read by the male narrator

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Lorelei King and George Newbern ?

Lorelei King needs no replacement. George Newborn needs a different career choice

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

NO, unlike other Mercy books this was extremely hard to listen to and I had to repeatedly rewind when the male narrator was reading. his nondescript, yet upbeat voice did nothing to indicate the emotions the characters were feeling and did nothing to capture my attention. closest description would be a perky monotone

    Any additional comments?

RE-RECORD THE BOOK AND GET RID OF THE MALE NARRATOR. He destroys the book. every bit he reads sounds like the exact same perky voice...doesn't matter who is talking or if they are talking about someone in grave danger and the character is highly stressed, nope still sounds upbeat and with no depth.
Epitomizing the failure that George Newborn was--a line of text read in the same upbeat, yet bland voice--"Adam said in his basso voice" REALLY! pathetic pathetic pathetic. I am morally offended by his reading.

"Really wish you hadn't changed the narration"
Would you listen to Silence Fallen again? Why?

I've listened twice to give it a second chance but really didn't like the use of the male narrator. Please don't do that with the next book.

What did you like best about this story?

I love Mercy and her never give up attitude in all the books.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Lorelei King and George Newbern ?

Would have preferred Lorelei King alone. Nothing against George but i liked the way Lorelei handled the male voices. It was disconcerting to hear the new male voices, especially Adam's. Adam sounded like a wimp.
