Publisher's summary

In book 1 of this steamy new contemporary Western romance series by two blockbuster authors, a cowboy and a woman on the run take a stand and fight for love.

Carlin Reed lives in fear, off the grid, moving from place to place. So Battle Ridge, Wyoming, a small town in the middle of nowhere, seems like a good place to lie low for a while. But after becoming cook and housekeeper to cattle rancher Zeke Decker, Carlin suspects that she’s made her first mistake. Rugged, sexy, and too distracting for his own good, Zeke is pure temptation mixed with something deep and primal that makes Carlin feel almost safe. Soon things are getting way too hot in the kitchen.

Zeke doesn’t challenge Carlin’s terms: cash, dead bolts, and no questions. It is easy to see that she’s a woman in trouble. Problem is, he’s so blindsided by his attraction to her he can’t think straight. Zeke tries to stay all business, no complications - but that game plan is sabotaged the second Carlin gets under his skin. And when her terrifying past follows her to the ranch, Carlin faces a heartbreaking choice: run away from the man she loves, or put him in the crosshairs of a madman.

Not Wild about the Story

I love Linda Howard's writing but this must be one of her older books that was updated. The story is good but the characters do not have the chemistry that some of her newer books seem to have. The narrator was good but not my favorite. Most of LH's books are so good you can't put it down because you want to find out what happens next...this isn't one of them.

Horrible Narrator!! Good Story!

This was a very enjoyable book, however the narrator was horrible, their were times where I just wanted to turn off my iPod. The narrator made the main female character sound like a whinny 13 yr old brat.

Next stop Wyoming!

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

50/50
I needed some romance and a change from the usual genres I lean towards. The story is weak. But I did get some enjoyment out of the different setting, classic cowboy, and domesticity.

What could Linda Howard and Linda Jones have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

They could've spent more time in story development. It's an okay story. Better than I could write but I've read much better romances. I'm so ready to suspend disbelief I can't believe they fell so short of my low expectations.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Maggie Wheeler?

Probably not. She doesn't deliver on the male characters or at least she didn't for this book.

Was Running Wild worth the listening time?

It's a toss up. 50/50
I wanted to listen to a romance while chilling out, I wish I'd picked better.

Any additional comments?

Yeah. The sex leaves a lot to be desired. It doesn't come until late in the book and it's short and nondescript. I mean she tells you what's going on but not with sufficient skill to make it worth the wait. The sexual tension/attraction is barely palpable, if the characters didn't have conversations about it with themselves it wouldn't come across the story.

Very Disappointing

Any additional comments?

I read everything Linda Howard, she is one of my favorite authors. Is this an older book that's been reworked? The writing was sophomoric, the plot had promise but never delivered, and the narration was awful. I would suggest you save your credits and try a different Linda Howard novel.

One of my favorites!

I almost never reread or relisten to a book but I’ve now
lost track of how many times I have listened to this or read my paperback of it. I so enjoy Carlin and AZ’s story! I love her determination to take on everything from working at the ranch as a woman alone, to never fail white cake, to her flaming puck biscuits to Zeke.
AZ ‘Zeke’ is my kind of man. Hard working, sexy, responsible, funny, and protective. I WISH the authors would write a sequel or two to this.
Imagine sweet, honest lil Spencer 7 or ten years fast forwarded, still honest, gorgeous, and tough with a sexy sweet hard edge to him. He’d be seriously interesting. The Lindas were WRONG for not continuing this series!

Great story, well written!

Would you consider the audio edition of Running Wild to be better than the print version?

didn't read it.

Have you listened to any of Maggie Wheeler’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

She is an outstanding narrator. Easy to follow her characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes,yes!

Any additional comments?

This was one of Linda Howard's best books. I am not averse to sex scenes but how refreshing to find two people falling for one another without jumping into bed after the first hello! Really a good book.
