Publisher's summary

Reese Duncan wanted a wife, pure and simple. Someone to have children with, someone to help him rebuild his ranch, someone uncomplicated...and someone very different from his first wife, the woman who'd destroyed his life. But he hadn't bargained on Madelyn Patterson. She was sophisticated and citified, and she was willing to herd cattle, keep house and start a family with Reese. The only thing she asked for in return was love - the one thing Reese refused to guarantee.

a review

I had read this before and liked it. the reader's voices were lousy. They were inconsistent and, at times, took away from the story.

One fine strong heroine!

I didn't plan to like an 'arranged marriage' type story but I ended up loving it. I started it while cleaning thinking I could turn it off and find something else if it was as boring as I expected it to be. Soon, I was paying attention to every word and truly enjoyed all the rich details of ranch life and these two strong willed characters. Madelyn and Duncan have quite a story and I would recommend this book.

Good grovel

It's pretty rare for me to love the heroine more than the hero. Madelyn was kind of awesome and I really loved how she handled a lot of the situations when Reese was a giant A-hole.

So... Reese was a giant A-hole. He has his reasons, but kind of took those reasons too far at times. I will say that if you want to see a man have to grovel at the end, you will get that with him.

I enjoyed the audiobook from audio escape and while the female narrater wasn't the best with the male voice, it wasn't bad enough to take me out of the story. I am pretty picky about that.

Sweet story

Okay story if prepared for an outdated attitude toward gender roles. Heroine is still a strong enough character if listener can place themselves within a 1960-1970s timeframe (almost like listening to a historic romance - LOL). Narrator doesn't have a great range with different character voices, but has a pleasant voice and does a good job overall. I did enjoy the listen. No explicit, steamy romance scenes. Depending on listener preference, it is questionable if worth a credit. It is worth the short listen time if accessing through Audible Escape though.

Not bad for an older Linda Howard book

I love Linda Howard books. This book was a sweet simple romance book. A little drama, but not much. A little sex too. Sometimes you need a simple book to get you through. I enjoyed the book. I was not sure I would like it but the story draws you in and you are left wanting to know how it ends up. Not realistic. Well, I don't think in today's society a person would answer a newspaper ad for a wife and you fly to meet this person and then marry them.
All in all it was fairly good. The character development was pretty good and story held my attention. Reese was a mean, bitter person and his mail order bride change him and he is able to forgive and live again. The only thing that really bothered me was the total end. An epilog would have been great.

If you are looking for a quick easy read this one is for you.

Good narration for this mail-order bride story

A contemporary mail-order bride story. Reese was deeply hurt and very distrustful of city women. Madelyn wanted a change and was willing to work hard for it. I loved Madelyn's tenacity when it came to proving she was worth it. Reese was blind and very set in his pain, and almost lost the best thing that happened to him. I enjoyed the family interactions and this story.

Narration by Lesa Lockford was well done. She brought all the characters to life with humor and more.

This is my unsolicited review.
