Publisher's Summary

Caelen McCabe's young, reckless heart nearly destroyed his clan. Now, putting family loyalty above all else, he steps up to marry his older brother's jilted bride and salvage the uneasy alliance between two clans. While beautiful Rionna McDonald is a fit wife for any man, Caelen trusts no woman, especially not this sweet temptress who torments him with white-hot longing.

As the sacrificial lamb in her father's power game, Rionna will do her duty but vows to protect her heart and her pride from humiliation. Despite everything, though, the heat in Caelen's touch melts her defenses, and she craves the sensual delights of a husband who guards his emotions as fiercely as his clan. But when the ultimate battle for the McCabe legacy is upon them, Rionna's true warrior spirit emerges. She will risk the wrath of her father, the fury of her enemies, and her life to prove to Caelen that his wife's love is too precious to lose.

What the Critics Say

"Banks nicely balances bedroom and battlefield action as Rionnas tough swordsmanship and Caelens tender lust propel the couple and the clans toward harmony." (Publishers Weekly)

    "Lusty Romance"

I love a good light romance every once in a while. It was entertaining but a bit predictable. Several scenes were very explicit. The author does have a talent writing passionate and descriptive sex scenes.

    "Loved this finale"

Finally Rionna gets her HEA!! Rionna and Caelan's book was a really enjoyable book to listen to. KP has really outdone herself in this series! Loved her scottish burr.

Rionna had been passed up by Ewain, Ulrich and finally Caelan raised his hand to sacrifice himself in the bid to gain Laird MacDonalds alliance with the McCabes. I felt bad for Rionna, but she held her own. She was a fighter, but she had a good and loyal heart. She was a great match for the youngest and most scarred MaCabe.

I don't know if any of the prior women could have penetrated his defenses after his first love betrayed him and devastated his life.

I had so hoped that Maya Banks would write a book on Gannon because he had to babysit 3 Mccabe women. Even Cormack got his girl, why not Gannon?

I hope the author revists this series sometime soon.

    "Absolutely loved this one!"

What a great conclusion to this Highlander series. Maya Banks does it again! Admittedly I was doubtful with book 1, but books 2 & 3 definitely pulled through as winners. I so enjoyed Caelon and Rionna's story; Rionna was a fabulous heroine and I loved the relationship between she and Caelon and how it develops. This is a shorter story than the others but it packs a punch throughout, giving you romance, action and humor. If you're looking for a sweet historical romance, this is a good series to purchase.. Loved it...highly recommended.

    "Wonderful romance! "

This third book in the series by Maya Banks was really wonderful. The heroine is a woman who has hidden behind men’s clothes and acted more like one of the clan McDonald soldiers than its heiress. She is married to Caleb McCabe by arrangement that the king desired to cement the clans of the highlands. Neither one is wanting to be married, but as time goes by each finds things in the other they never expected. While Love is building between them, the evil Duncan Cameron plots to take the highlands for himself and the usurper of the king. Can trust be forged in time to save them all? Narration was great!

"Best of the three in series, great matchup"

A good example of saving the best for last... the third and final installment following Calen and Rionna was by far the most satisfying of the series. It followed a predictable path (sudden marriage, he tries to change her, she is strong willed, they fall in love, their strength is tested against the antagonist of the series in a crescendo and final showdown), but it was no less enjoyable for that formula. Each of them were headstrong, and ultimately after the same thing, but their clashes of personality kept the sparks up and their ferocity kept things interesting.

The only thing I think I noticed that I took issue with was how Calen repeatedly draws attention to the fact that he is not particularly well spoken (and that he expresses himself better on paper than aloud) and yet throughout their intimate scenes he is constantly spouting loving and poetic compliments - then in the epilogue when we finally hear a piece of his writing it is some of the Least eloquent narrative in the whole book. But maybe that's just me.

In any case, I enjoyed it so much I finished it in a day. A great Scottish romance read, a perfect embodiment of its sub genre.
Narration was good, the only trouble being discerning some of the various male voices, as has been the case with Potter's dialogue throughout the series.

    "I would love this Highlander"

A love story that definitely takes you by storm. A quick unexpected marriage, but they do find a way to learn to accept each other and become a family. I fell in love with this highlander. Romance, adventure and a great narrator that brings this highland romance to life.

    "Hot and Steamy Scottish story"

overall, I really enjoyed another Maya Bank's books. I particularly like her more recent highlander books, a bit better, but this book had a lot of love, passion and action. All that you would expect of a steamy Scottish romance.

    "Very cute book 📚"

An enjoyable read. Written well... although not overly descriptive of the highlands or the castles etc, it's good. I hope to read more of this authors works.

    "kinda dorky especially the ending"

This was the worst of the trilogy. It wasn't so bad until the very end. However, the ending changed my overall opinion of the book.
