Two hotheaded Highlanders, the offspring of feuding lairds, are tricked by the King's Regent into a desperate choice: marry or die. Bhaic MacPherson is more disposed to lead his clan into battle than stay married to the daughter of his enemy. But perhaps the intensity of his feelings has more to do with desire than hostility. Lady Eve Sotherby dreams of escaping her horrid life in England, yet she has nowhere to run. So when she spies a posting for a companion in the Highlands, she seizes the chance to disappear. She’s heard tales about the barbaric Highlanders, of course, but no one can be worse than the beast she once foolishly agreed to wed. And never mind that she doesn’t meet any of the requirements for the position: must have no family, must love the cold, and must know the healing arts.

Publisher's Summary
An Imperfect Match
Brodick McJames is an earl in name only. To secure his clan's future he needs an English wife. Mary Stanford, daughter of the Earl of Warwickshire, will suit perfectly. He's never met her, but what matter? She'll grace his bed eventually, and once she bears his child he need see her no more.
Anne Copper looks just like her noble half-sister, but she was born illegitimate, and can never forget it. The best she can hope for is to stay a serving girl in her own father's house. But when Lady Mary finds herself betrothed to a Scot, it seems there's a use for Anne after all.... The woman who arrives in Alcaon is not what Brodick expects, and the passion that grows between them promises far more than a marriage of convenience. When fate draws two together, it may take more than a noblewoman's plot to part them....

Erotic and Sensual Love story!!
If you could sum up In Bed with a Stranger in three words, what would they be?
I really enjoyed re reading this erotic and sensual love story. Great characters and a very mean evil villain who meant harm to our lead female character Anne but it turned to her good.
Philipa the Countess of Warwickshire's daughter Mary has been betrothed to the Scottish Earl Brodick McJames the Earl of Alcaon. Mary doesn't want to marry she is a spoiled old spinster who just want to stay at the court of Queen Elizabeth Tudor. Philipa has refused her husbands bed after she gave birth to Mary 26 years ago She does not want to have anymore children and she doesn't care for the marriage bed. Henry the Earl won't rape or force her to his bed. So the Earl takes a mistress name Ivy and they have many children over the years. Anne our heroine is the eldest daughter. The only problem I had with the story was the Earl leaving his wife in control of the household and his mistress Ivy and her children left subject to her whims. This didn't make sense. Henry the Earl is in love with his mistress and loves all his sons and daughter by her but he sits back an let them be ill treated. This part of the story didn't work for me although Philipa gets her just deserts in the end.
Philipa makes Anne take her daughter place as Brodicks wife. The marriage was done by proxy. Brodick has never seen Mary. Anne must return home to Philipa once she had conceived and have the baby there and give it to Mary. Now this didn't make sense either becasue wouldn't Brodrick know is own wife? Brodick and Anne fall in love and his no the wiser that she isn't his legal wife. They have some very erotic sex Hot!! and they learn to trust and respect each other. They do get there HEA this was an excellent ending to the story. I highly Recommend In Bed With A Stranger, by Mary Wine. I really enjoyed it. This could have easily been a 5 star review but the foolishness of the Earl of Warwick, Anne's father all those years. Just didn't sit right with me. Why leave the family you love under the thumb of his evil wife. I didn't enjoy the narrator. He needs to study the Scottish Brogue and he doesn't sound like a female in those parts when a female is speaking.
What did you like best about this story?
The Ending!!
How could the performance have been better?
Bruce Mann needs to study the Scottish Brogue and making his voice would like a female when a female is speaking. I didn't like the narration at all.

loved the story but ruined by the narrator
Although I loved the story and was dying to know how it would end, the narrator was very distracting he sounded like a robot most of the time and his voice for the hero was awful he sounded even more like a horrible robot. And in the nice and very steamy sex scenes instead of sounding loving and passionate he sounded like a really cruel man. But then funnily enough his voice for the heroine and the other female voices were very good.
I definitely will not be listening to the rest of the series, which is a pity as I love Mary Wines books. Please change the narrator and i will definitely purchase the other 2 books in the series.

Extremely bad narration
Pity this should have been narrated by either Anthony Ferguson or Tim Campbell, as this is the very first audio book I have marked as finished before it even got to the end of chapter 1.
The storyline is okay, but the narrator just grated on my nerves, etc. Get Mary Wine to redo the narration on this audio book and the others of this series.
