Publisher's summary
From the best-selling author of the Stolen Bride series comes a brand new and exciting family saga!
For fans of Scottish historical romance, the Sutherland Legacy propels you into the Highlands with tales of daring adventure, irresistible heroes, and passion!
Sir Niall Oliphant was betrothed to the Bruce's daughter, Princess Elizabeth, until she declares that his wound in battle has incapacitated him as a man. Because he does not wish to marry the spoiled royal, he is glad to pass her off to his brother Sir Walter. He's more than content to fade into the background with his injuries and remain a bachelor forever. Until he is presented with an offer from the Earl of Sutherland to marry his only daughter, a lass more beautiful than any other, who makes him want to stand up and fight again.
Bella Sutherland, daughter of one of the most powerful earls and Highland chieftains in Scotland, can marry anyone she wants - but she wants no one. When she spies the injured warrior at the Yule festival who has been shunned by the Bruce's own daughter, she makes her choice. What is better than no husband? A husband who cannot truly be husband at all. But she won't be satisfied with letting him languish. If there's one thing she's learned, its not to give up. With them both satisfied that they are gaining a marriage in name only, imagine their surprise when love blossoms and passion ignites?

FIRST LOVE
I really enjoyed this story. My favorite part was the beginning when spunky little Bella was taking on all the younger boys wanting to join in on the tournament against the boys. When she wins the tournament only because the young boy who had stuck up for her and made it possible for her to join in on the games by pretending to lose on the tie breaking game. The narrator made the story, with his Scottish accent ,most entertaining. The narrator made me want to listen to the whole series of I believe 5 or 6 books.

Written vs audio
The last year I have not been able to read since I am slowly loosing my sight. My library has few audio choices esp in the area I want to read. So it has been a real joy to find not only audio books but to now listen to books that I have read in the past and find that by listening, I get insights that I didn't get by just reading. Sort of like an added demention. This particular book I found to be better by far in the listening - not sure if it is the one doing the reading or just that I am getting more comfortable in listening vs doing the reading. End result is that I found I really enjoyed the story, not as sexual as many, just a great story line with a reader that had me laughing.

Wonderful!
This was a wonderful, sweet story with two very strong people. I was happy to listen to a story that did not hold any unnecessary angst between the two main characters. I loved how they fell in love at a young age and continued to love each other throughout the years even tho they had been apart. They were both strong, caring people and deserved to have their HEA. I would listen to this one again and will continue with the series. Well worth the listen!

good listen
I usually avoid male readers because when it comes to women's part of the story I don't like the pitch they go to to try to show its a women speaking- this narrator did a fabulous job with he accents and has a smooth talk that was easy to listen to- I did sometimes cringe slightly when he talked as a women, but it was omay enough to keep listening.
I loved the main characters- I love that the author gave Nial a handycap- which he overcame splendidly with the help of his brother and wife.
I love how strong Bella is - the only scene that bothered me was at one point Bella was being carried off by a warrior and was putting up a fight- unsuccessfully- up to that point in the story she was a strong woman who had been taught hand to hand, archery, and other fighting techniques so I found it slightly off for her not to be able to at least get out of the warriors hold. I was waiting for her to have a weapon or something - with her being all warrior lady - but nope. Then later on she helps defend Nial and turns into a co.plete warrior goddess with no hesitation. which is great, but when I pair that whole scene with the beginning and then the middle where she was weak- it bothered me.
Overall the book is well written with great character chemistry, good descriptions of scenes, and action packed throughout.

I lost my heart to the narrator. Polished, professional and so easy on the ears. He really takes his job of storyteller seriously. He puts his all into his performance. I also love the heroine. She is impossible perfection. The love story is sweet. Very entertaining.

Charmingly light story - dreadful narration
The story is good enough for the genre and entertaining/distracting, but unfortunately I have to agree with the other reviewers in that the Scottish accent of the narrator is really bad. It does make me wonder who allowed this recording to go ahead and why was it not stopped once they heard that accent? A better narrator would have helped listeners get lost in the story which I never really did, and which is a real shame.

Loved it
This is the 3rd time listening to these serieses and loved every second of them again. This is the first book of another series of the Sutherland family, which is about Magnus'and Arabella's offsprings.
The prequel novella of this series is supposed to be The Highlanders Reward, Magnus and Arabella's story, the parents of the heroines and the heroes of this series, and not Highlanders Conquest, Blaine and Aliah's story. Blaine is their uncle. Because The Highlanders Conquest is listed as the prequel of this series and its wrong. I'm just letting readers/listeners know that's all.
The narrator is good but I preferred Corrie James that narrated the first series of the Sutherlands. Anthony Ferguson is good but he reads the book like he's reading it to a class of children, like he's reading a fairytale. I don't know how to explain it but it's like the hero and heroine's tones are like children's, but with deep voices.
But I love Eliza Knights books so I'm on to the next one.

Narator is aweful
Story is good, a shame it felt the need to turn all the negatives into positives. Sometimes life's shit, and that's OK. Not everything has to be perfect. But the narator is atrocious, if you can't do a Scots accent don't read a book set in Scotland. The way he said "ye" and "aye" had me cringing everytime!

Excellent
A true and brilliantly portrayed story of the times as they were. It took me back to the way they had to defend and live their lives. A different world as ours is today brilliant series.

A good story
A well written simple but interesting story. I love how Bella and Niall were perfectly suited to each other and seemed destined to be together.
I’ve read a previous reviewer comment stating how the use of profanity was off putting however I beg to differ. What little there was suited the context and was delivered aptly by the narrator.
If not for the delivery of Bella’s dialogue, I would’ve said the narration was excellent however it seemed Bella’s tone always sounded the same irrespective of situation, emotion and what she was saying. It’s a pity. I wish a female narrator had performed all of the female voices.

worth listening to as background sounds only
I was rather disappointed, I love historical romance and have listened to way too many of them. This book just didn't cut it. The characters could have had so much depth but they didn't. I felt they changed their minds about things so easily and their thoughts weren't deep. I didn't fall in love with these characters, I didn't dislike the characters either, I felt nothing for them.

Poor Narration
Struggled with the narration. No depth to the characters in the story, females sounded like they were read by Benny Hill in comedy skit.
