Publisher's Summary

In this inspirational historical romance, Edith is a nurse and has gone home to assist her cousin who is “with child.” Edith has wonderful qualities but never gives a man a second chance because her expectations are so high. However, all that changes when a mysterious stranger starts writing to her. For the first time, she gets to know a man's inner soul before making any harsh judgments.

Whoever he is, this man is a mystery and the best thing that has ever happened to her. The question that puzzles her is whether or not he's as wonderful in person as he is in his letters.

A Sweet Story

This is book two in the Bear Lake Family Saga and introduces us to Edith, a talented nurse who returns home to Paris Idaho to nurse her cousin Melinda. Edith judges men based on first appearances, which leads her to dismiss most of the men she's introduced to. She faces one matchmaking attempt after another when she returns home, but her new suitors don't interest her. When she receives a letter from a mysterious man, she decides to get to know the writer before judging him.

This book can be read as a standalone, but is best enjoyed after reading the first. It catches up with Melinda, Gilbert, and Jenny from the first book, and little Jenny is all grown up and ready to meet men of her own! I really enjoyed the banter between the characters, and how the author used music to bring the characters together. She wrote in a simple and straightforward manner, and placed an emphasis on family values.

The narrator did a great job with the different characters and even singing parts, which brought something special to the story. She has a voice that's easy to listen to. I received a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

Lovely Story!

Any additional comments?

This is the 2nd book in the Bear Lake Family Saga but it stands alone. The book is a historical romance and contains no graphic language or violence. I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Edith is a young nurse who has a list of traits which the perfect husband must possess. All men she meets who are missing any of the items on the list are immediately dismissed without consideration, which so far has been every single eligible man she meets. She begins to receive letters from a secret admirer who wants to correspond with her so they could know each other's mind without outer prejudice. Who are the letters from?

I really enjoyed and recommend this book. The characters were believable and human. The story was intriguing and very enjoyable. I now want to listen to all the books in the series!

Wonderful Historical!

Just love listening to Linda's Audible books! She has chosen a great narrator and I have enjoyed this and other Audible books that she has narrated. Audible books are great for busy people like me, who don't always have time or free hands to "turn the pages". It's nice to have someone do that for me.

This was another sweet romance by Linda Weaver Clarke and book 2 to her Bear Lake Family Saga does not disappoint. I have been enjoying this series and happy that I was given a chance to read these books.

Edith is an educated woman who is very particular about men. She doesn't wait to get to know the inner man if the first or second encounter with this person are not what she expects. Knowing this, her secret admirer decides that he would like her to get to know him before she has the chance to reject him. As he finds his own way to court her, she finds herself enthralled with this mysterious man who has not revealed his identity to her. Will he have better success than the others who have attempted to court this interesting woman? You will need to read this one for yourself and I am sure that you will enjoy it.

I hope that I will be able to read this entire series.

Disclosure: I received this ebook from the author for my honest review which I have given.

Loved the secret admirer

Who wouldn’t like letters from a mysterious secret admirer? And reading a story about one was almost as good! Loved that storyline and how stories with other couples on various stages of their love story were woven in. Great performance by a pro reader who can even sing when needed!

sometimes a mysterious stranger is what you need.

A sweet story of Edith who came home to help her dear friend during her pregnancy and as usual, her mother is hinting she should get married and trying to match her up with different town's men. But this time, she has a mysterious man who is writing to her and intrigued she writes back. They find they are getting to know each other, wants and dreams through their letter exchange and Edith finds that the eligible men around her cannot match the man she is falling in love with through his letters. Yet, is her truly a mystery man or does she already know him? Once again Linda Weaver Clarke, gives you a wonderful story that keeps you wanting to continue until the very end!

A nice story.

Edith and the Mysterious Stranger is a sweet, simple story probably more suited to teens rather than older readers with life experience.
Edith is unmarried because she is too picky and judges men on first impressions only. This made her sound very shallow as a person. I didn't really like the use of this old stereotype about women who are single. Edith is an educated and independent woman with a career. Finding love/getting married should have been the icing on the cake but instead finding a man to marry and making him happy became the focus of her life.
I felt that all the discussion about getting to know a person from the inside and as a friend first was a little bit preachy for my taste but the advice given may have some relevance to today's young Instagram generation.
I enjoyed catching up with Gilbert and Melinda. I quite liked the method of correspondence as a tool for courtship although the identity of 'the mysterious stranger' was very predictable.

I received a copy from the author and this is my unbiased and voluntary review.
