Amber Wakefield travels to Hunter's Grove, Kansas to meet her intended and walks into a very unwelcoming atmosphere. Charles Turner, her intended, seems cool and aloof, and his brother Garrett - downright rude. She wants nothing more than to rush back to Virginia, until Edna Smith, her chaperone, falls ill, and she's forced to stay. She knows Charles harbors a secret, and she isn't sure whether Garrett is her hero or her enemy. When she finally discovers the truth, she wants nothing to do with either of them. One of the Turner brothers vows to win her love. But which one?

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked Garrett. He's true and honest.

What does Meghan Kelly bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I enjoyed Ms. Kelly's narration. Her storytelling is very easy on the ears. I thought it odd at times how some of the male characters seemed louder or 'inserted'. Overall, I was able to get lost in the story and not stuck on the performance technicalities.

Any additional comments?

This is only the second Mail Order Bride story I've listened to by Ms. Goss. I really appreciate the freshness in the stories/issues she creates. These are definitely not your typical Mail Order Bride wester romance stories. Ms. Goss weaves in faith in her storytelling as well as fun.

This book was a joy to listen to from start to finish. I tend to listen to longer books but Barbara Goss has an amazing way of packing in so much content into a 3 hour story. This book has mystery, romance and faith lessons that hit the heart. The narration is very well done and adds to the enjoyment of this book. I highly recommend!

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and voluntarily provided this review.

Mishap? I think not!

The heroine was not my favorite person at the beginning of the book. What woman looks at a mail-order bride possibility and says that she doesn't want to cook, clean, or do any housekeeping? By the end of the book, I don't think Amber was ready to do housework, but the situations she had been through made her a stronger person and I respected her more for it.
After arriving at the hometown of her intended Amber learned that the situation was not quite what she expected. She made the best of it, making friends of people in the town and finally learning the truth of the man she came west to marry.
I did like that the characters had some morals and did't jump into bed at the first chance.

Interesting concept of a mail order bride coming to town only to eventually discover that her betrothed is not what he makes himself out to be. Will she last in the rugged wild west or will she return home? Will she find love elsewhere?

I commend Meghan Kelly on finding a way to repeat certain information multiple times in a natural, flowing way. Her diction and articulation are clear.
