Publisher's Summary

MacKayla Lane's ordinary life underwent a complete makeover when she landed on Ireland's shores and was plunged into a world of deadly sorcery and ancient secrets.

In her fight to stay alive, Mac must find the Sinsar Dubh - a million-year-old book of the blackest magic imaginable, which holds the key to power over both the world of the Fae and of Man.

Pursued by Fae assassins, surrounded by mysterious figures she knows she cannot trust, Mac finds herself torn between two deadly and irresistible men: V'lane, the insatiable Fae who can turn sensual arousal into an obsession for any woman, and the ever-inscrutable Jericho Barrons, a man as alluring as he is mysterious.

For centuries the shadowy realm of the Fae has coexisted with that of humans. Now the walls between the two are coming down, and Mac is the only thing that stands between them.

Critic Reviews

"Moning's delectable Mac is breathlessly appealing, and the wild perils she must endure are peppered with endless conundrums. The results are addictively dark, erotic and even shocking." (Publishers Weekly)
"Spiced with a subtle yet delightfully sharp sense of humor...delectably dark and sexy." (Chicago Tribune)

Spellbinding

This book is excellent! It really pulls you in! I went out and bought all the books by this author and have fallen in love with every character. The fae are described in detail and the suspense, not to mention the hot sex parts, make it unable to pull away. I will be a fan for life.

Wonderful series

KMM has written a wonderfully addictive series. Start with Darkfever and then Blood fever. The next eagerly anticipated book in the series, Faefever, will be out in September. The characters in the "Fever series" are delicious and the narration is superb. Don't miss it if you like fantasy and romance novels.

Books are fantastic, narrator is barely okay

I have to agree with many other reviewers here as to the narrator. She sounds much too old to be MacKayla Lane and what she does to Jericho Barrons is rather unforgiveable. He is described as a large and very vibrant man but she makes him sound like a tiny withered old man. I really wish these would be re-done with other narrators and am looking forward to the final two books where the narrators are different.

Kept me interested

This is a simple book. If you're looking for profound - look elsewhere. It was entertaining and helped my driving time pass - and for that it earned 4 stars. The end had me downloading the next book immediately!

Narrator isn't that good

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would recommend this to a friend if only for the story. The story is great! The narrator isn't really that great though. She pulls you out of the story and anytime that she spoke as the male roles they sounded squeaky and Barrons sounded like he was something from a video game I played as a kid.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Joyce Bean?

Natalie Ross and Phil Gigante.

Narrator is terrible

Would you try another book from Karen Marie Moning and/or Joyce Bean?

I LOVE karen marie moning; Joyce Bean is a horrible narrator. She makes the main character sound like a complete idiot, and all the men sound like leprachauns.

What did you like best about this story?

The story itself is good

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Like I said...leprachauns. Even the one's whose accent the main character couldn't identify

Any additional comments?

The narrator in the last two books of this series is pretty darn good. And it probably helps that they got a man to do the man's voice. It really brings the story out a lot better when you're not super focused on a woman trying to sound like a man.

Narrator Ruins it.

What did you like best about Bloodfever? What did you like least?

I think the story is solid but I couldn't get past the narrator. Her fake "southern" accent sounds like she is just out of breath the entire time and is distracting BEYOND belief. I wish I would have read this one myself since I am so fed up with it I can't even finish the series. The characters are all annoying and I know its not the authors fault. Maybe after some time I will be able to get the narrator out of my head and pick the series back up.

Awesome

One of my most favorite book series! Characters are well-rounded, the story is absolutely compelling and MacKayla is so charming you feel like she could be your best friend. A must-read.

addictive

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

absolutely in fact I have my sister and me both love this series I'm trying to get my son to read it cuz he's Twilight fan but I think he would really like this one as well only because it's got such a unique story line

What did you like best about this story?

I love the banter between Mac and barons and Vlane

What does Joyce Bean bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I've read the book and what you get through the audio version is almost like a movie version of your favorite book only they don't cut out any of the good stuff

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

absolutely unfortunately I work for a living but every time I had a lunch break I'd be in my car listening to my book

Any additional comments?

I recommend getting all of them and I will definitely be listening to them again
