Publisher's summary

A mythic warrior who'll stop at nothing to possess her....

After enduring years of torture from the vampire horde, Lachlain MacRieve, leader of the Lykae Clan, is enraged to find the predestined mate he's waited millennia for is a vampire. Or partly one. This Emmaline is a small, ethereal half Valkyrie/half vampire, who somehow begins to soothe the fury burning within him.

A vampire captured by her wildest fantasy....

Sheltered Emmaline Troy finally sets out to uncover the truth about her deceased parents - until a powerful Lykae claims her as his mate and forces her back to his ancestral Scottish castle. There, her fear of the Lykae - and their notorious dark desires - ebbs as he begins a slow, wicked seduction to sate her own dark cravings.

An all-consuming desire....

Yet when an ancient evil from her past resurfaces, will their desire deepen into a love that can bring a proud warrior to his knees and turn a gentle beauty into the fighter she was born to be?

There were so many things to like

I liked the main character, Emma, and how she was babied by the others. She did not believe she was as strong as her sisters. When it came time to dispatch her enemy, she persevered, even to the shock & disbelief of her sisters.

My new favorite narrator!

After my huge disappointment with the narration of Cole's prequel The Warlord Wants Forever, I was ready to be disappointed again. How wrong I was!
A romance star is born and his name is Robert Petkoff.
I'm not even half way through the audiobook A Hunger Like No Other and I felt compelled to write a review. In this first book in the Immortals After Dark series, many characters are introduced and most are female. This could be a challenge for a male narrator but Petkoff does not disappoint. Each female character I've heard so far is recognizable and distinct. And his characterization of the male lead Lachlain is spot on; his Scottish brogue is smooth and sexy. Timing and pacing is excellent. Petkoff is an accomplished narrator, but this appears to be his first step into the Romance genre. I hope he continues to narrate this series.

A decent beginning to a great series

I've listened to 1-5 in this series. This first book was my least favorite. The good news is that it only gets better from here, and this first one was an enjoyable listen. Overall, this author really knows how to deliver a well-paced, action-packed romantic adventure. The problem is I didn't particularly like either character in the beginning. He's a bit of an un-evolved caveman. She's a bit of a wuss. I wasn't fond of the dominant/submissive tone of their relationship. Fortunately, I hung in there. As the characters develop further, he loses some of his caveman act as he works out his inner strife, and she discovers her backbone. Some people might be too turned off to hang in there long enough to witness the shift. If you're not into seductive "rape" scenes but do like romantic action adventures, you could easily skip to book 2 and not miss much. Don't give up on this author too early. She does deliver good entertainment. Robert Petkoff, the narrator, is generally ah-may-zing, but the falsetto that he chose for this heroine was a little grating. I'll forgive him as he does everything else so well.

Like no other romance you have read before!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I adore the author. However, I would love a woman one without a whine or flat voice to read the female parts with Robert Petkoff. However, if I had to choose a woman or a man to read these books I 'm glad they chose a man especially one with an amazing voice like Mr. Petkoff. He does sound a silly when he reads the girl parts. Sorry, but his voice is exceedingly masculine how could he not. Love you Ms. Cole.

Any additional comments?

Kresley Cole writes a true romance. Many times authors forget they are writing a romance and focus on a mystery or adventure. Ms. Cole also has those types of storylines in her books but she still concentrates on the relationship between the hero and the heroine. I love that and I find it surprisingly rare in fantasy/sci-fi romances. Her males are extremely masculine and her females powerful yet feminine. You do not have to read her books in order but I found it to be more enjoyable. She writes for adults and there are some of the best sex scenes I have ever read.

Its a good story, very sensually detailed.

Would you consider the audio edition of A Hunger Like No Other to be better than the print version?

The man character's accent was nice. Loved the accent. Although the female's accent could be improved. The autor details nicely, and that's what draws the reader into the story.

Would you recommend A Hunger Like No Other to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes, although Personally, I don't think I'll finish the entire series

What about Robert Petkoff’s performance did you like?

Didn't particularly care for the female's voice.
