Alone and desperate, Eve sits in the control center of an alien structure. She has lost the other members of the team sent to explore exoplanet Proxima Centauri b. By mistake she has triggered a disastrous process that threatens to obliterate the planet. Just as Eve fears her best option may be a quick death, a nearby alien life form awakens from a very long sleep. Unfortunately not impressed...

While the books of this series are outstanding as stand alone novels, the three of them together as a trilogy doesn’t make any sense to me. I understand how, and why the author decided to go the trilogy route, but really wish he wouldn’t have. Having the main characters different in every novel would have been a much better approach. The narration was fantastic, but the story as a whole lacked excitement and character development in my opinion.

Way better than the second book

The final book in the trilogy is way better than the second. This book at least has a point and the characters are less implausible and deplorable.

Story is great, format is not

These three books are one story and cannot possibly stand on their own as in a regular series. In fact, they may as well have each finished mid-sentence for as much sense it made to split them where they did. They also clearly weren't split solely due to length either, since many Sci-Fi books are much longer. So this is another example of a publisher splitting a book up purely for profits which I think is shameful. It may seem unfair for me to "punish" the book/author with 3 stars solely for this reason, but it's my opinion that the author was either part of the decision or holds some responsibility for working with an unscrupulous publisher.
The story itself, however, when considered as a whole is pretty darn good!! It starts strong, the middle section is the weakest and the book really starts to shine in it's last third. It's a great combination of science, exploration, mystery and "first contact" and certainly entertains.

lots of loose ends in each book

great narrator. good story. lots of loose ends after each book. each book is rather short for an audio book. could have easily been just 2 books. not a great value.
