Story
In the year 2031, a robot probe detects traces of biological activity on Enceladus, one of Saturn's moons. This sensational discovery shows that there is indeed evidence of extraterrestrial life. Fifteen years later, a hurriedly built spacecraft sets out on the long journey to the ringed planet and its moon. The international crew is not just facing a difficult twenty-seven months: if the spacecraft manages to make it to Enceladus without incident it must use a drillship to penetrate the kilometer-thick sheet of ice that entombs the moon.

Story
After the untimely death of his mentor, Berkeley physicist Joshua Andrews has dedicated himself to finishing his mentor’s life work: Creating entangled particles that can communicate faster than light. When scientific journalist Rachael Miller comes to interview him at his lab, they make an astounding discovery, one as ancient as the universe itself. During the early moments of the Big Bang, entangled particles were created that spread with the expansion of the universe creating a subatomic communication network - a network that Joshua and Rachael have accidentally tapped into.

Publisher's Summary
There is a huge, bold black streak in the sky. Branches appear out of nowhere over North America, Southern Europe, and Central Africa. People who live beneath The Rift can see it. But scientists worldwide are distressed - their equipment cannot pick up any type of signal from it. The rift appears to consist of nothing. Literally. Nothing. Nada. Niente. Most people are curious but not overly concerned. The phenomenon seems to pose no danger. It is just there.
Then something jolts the most hardened naysayers, and surpasses the worst nightmares of the world's greatest scientists - and rocks their understanding of the universe.

What in the world just happened to my brain
I have no idea where in the heck this title came from I must've just happened to hop on audible at the right time because I have never seen this title and it absolutely blew me away. I am a big science fiction nerd and I love when writers/authors have clearly thought out the science with a well crafted plot. The way this story is laid out is really spectacular I found myself constantly wanting to listen to more I practically finished the book overnight. And the way it ended! Like WHAT?! New favorite audiobook right here taking over a dear place in my heart - Bobiverse. Which if you liked those books you will love this book by the way. Any true sci fi fans will want to listen to this a second time right after you are done. I bought this book with my own hard earned money and it was well worth it. Love it, love it, looove it. Update: Listening to this now again for second time. Someone said it's predictable but it's more like, "I hope this happens.." a few times and then it does and you're so happy because he maintains very sound science throughout the book without turning it into totally crazy theories in an attempt to awe people or be 100% unique. If you're a true sci-fi fan and like to really consider the nature of our universe and matter itself - this book is right up your alley. If you're looking for listen-and-forget-spaceships-shooting-lasers stories then this book may not be for you.

REAL Science.... finally
Thank you, thank you, thank you.... Finally a science fiction story with some actual science in it! In this age of fantasy science fiction where authors know more about dragons, sorcerers and zombies then they do about the electricity that powers the computer they are writing their drivel on it is a real pleasure to listen to a clear and concise story similar to writings from the Golden Age of Science Fiction. A modern story that Issac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, Fredric Brown, etc. would be happy to call their own. We need more authors like Brandon Morris. And thank you Daniel May for a fantastic narration (smile).

Super Nerd book , but with a fault.
Great story and the science for the nerd is outstanding. The fault in this story is the unnecessary inclusion of sex, it served no purpose to the story. The need the author felt for sex in the story is a degradation to a great book.

Narrator was awful. Made listening to a bad story even more frustrating. Female voices and accent bordered on insulting. Convoluted story that went nowhere. Can not think of one nice thing to say about this book. Looking forward to trying out the exchange program so I can remove this title from my library

Great performance, good story.
The Rift was a story about a giant crack in the universe. The story follows 3 separate people throughout the few weeks. However, the story falls flat at the end I find. I believe that 90% of the story was actually useless to the plot itself, and served no purpose other than to fill the book, because it did not matter what happened in the end. There was also no tension, no fear of the unknown like if a character was going to survive or not. However, the book itself was not bad. It was an interesting read and I dont regret reading it. The performance was amazing and perfect. The characters fit well and I dont see any issues with it.
