Publisher's summary

In the not-too-distant future, the United States loses its status as a world Superpower. With the military cut to a barebones level and American leaders focused solely on the nation's internal struggles, the door will open for new powers to emerge on the world stage. In the wake of this power vacuum, China and Russia begin to flex their military muscles and expand their dominance in the world. They have the most up-to-date technological innovations ready for battle: railguns, unmanned drone tank vehicles, exoskeleton suits, and cyber warfare.

Setting the Stage: The border of India and Pakistan has long been one of the planet's most precarious ticking time bombs waiting to explode, and when a scheme to agitate the tensions in that region is successful, it paves the way for powerful men to begin consolidating authority and start building an Islamic Caliphate. Extremists move from random attacks of violence to plots to take control of positions of political influence. America's usual ally against aggression, Europe, is weakened by economic decline; the U.S is facing this new threat without backup.

In these hazardous times, America will need strong guidance. Henry Stein, a new kind of leader, builds a new political party to lead the charge to bring the country back from the brink. His unconventional style is just what the U.S. needs in order to deal with the changing world balance of power and a worldwide Great Depression. As conflicts near and far began to plague the planet, will President Stein be able to prevent a third world war?

authors under value US sub & intelligence assets.

The intro. was to long & Russian characters had german accents & no use of US subs or Intelligence assests. which lead to the distruction of fleets and nuclear vaporization of cities & the president s staff conveniently forget about chinese and russian forces massing aganist them. BAD BOOK

Good story, but some unrealistic plots

Very good WW3 novel, but the story has some serious unrealistic plot lines. The not so subtle political jabs that distracted from the story, Ghost Fleet did a much better job from this perspective. Looking forward the the next book.

Prelude to World War III

What did you love best about Prelude to World War III?

The book makes you think, worry and be relieved that the book is fiction. Then it made me worry again because terrorist attacks are real these days. I came to the realization that the stage has already been set ?

Who was your favorite character and why?

Henry Stein was my favorite character; I deemed him the good guy.

What does Alex Hyde-White bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator was a perfect fit for this book. I think his reading made the drama in this book pop a little more.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I live in New York so the last scene really moved me. A lot of scenes made me shake my head in disbelief but when home is hit, fiction feels real.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed the book I received for free in exchange for an honest review. As the title suggests, the premise is quite disturbing, however the book worked and is pretty good. It jarred me to think about what could happen in the future and it made me happy that it has not happen yet. I plan on listening again.

Authors bit off more than they could chew

Overall, a good listen, and worth the effort. My biggest problem was that there was so much going on in the build-up, that I think the authors got lost in the weeds. The most glaring error was the apparent lack of submarine protection of the carrier battle group. Completely unbelievable.

Right wing fantasy view of the future

These authors should stay away from politics and have more logical plot turns. The Battlefield series was very well done but this has parts that are veiled racism, climate change denial, xenophobia and flat out dumb plot lines. I get political plot underpinnings but this guy REALLY hates Democrats. And really, Canada deciding to join the USA? The US invading Mexico????

Couldn't make it all the way through .

Got tired of listening to the story of the genius billionaire businessman who basically decided to become the "American Emperor". Even the most benevolent dictator or emperor cannot be tolerated in a democracy. May have gotten better and the world situation setup seemed plausible but just couldn't get past the newly elected President telling the other branches of government to get on board or get run over.

Skip this one

I listen to a lot of alt history and post apocalypse-type fiction and was very excited when I read the description. This book did not meet expectations. It is plodding and poorly researched to the point of being corny. The recycling of political names for characters is downright silly. To cap it all off, the performer’s attempted accents and inflection are atrocious.
