Publisher's Summary

From acclaimed poet and author Melissa Lozada-Oliva comes an evocative coming-of-age story of infatuation, belonging, and trust built and broken.

We meet our narrator hanging around the nail salon where her mother works, eavesdropping on her conversation with one of the regulars, Helen. But she’s really hoping to see Helen’s daughter, Patty - older, rebellious, and completely captivating. When Helen invites her over to their house to help organize a home office, she jumps at the opportunity. But as the day goes on, she encounters something she shouldn’t and gets caught up in the sinister nature of other people’s property and private lives.

Pool House is a haunting story about losing one’s sense of self and what happens when you look too far without noticing you’re being looked upon.

So bad....

A waste of 45 minutes. The reading & voice was fine the story was bad ... maybe that is why it was free?

What was that?

Maybe this is missing some part of it... like the ending... I don't understand why this is even here.

Uhhhh

What a waste of 45 minutes. I can’t tell if this was randomly generated text from an AI or written from the perspective of someone experiencing a psychotic break.

Was this all?

When I finished with this I thought it was cut short but I think this is it. I even went back to make sure I didn't miss something. This is why I gave it 4 stars. The overall story is very good, it did keep me hook and I was interested to see what would happen. My favorite is the main character because its practically me except I was a boy who thought things to much. Their is a darkness to it, it's like you are in a hunted house and wonder if you did see what you saw or maybe you didn't. The way the authors catches does little moments is my favorite part. The story it confusing because you don't know what happened, did something happened? I'm left wondering if this was all imagined since we are in the head of only one character or if we are left concluding for ourself of what will happen to this girl. I am even uncertain if 4 stars is deserved or if it should be 5. Maybe the point of this story is to have you make your own conclusions, and if this is the case then the story was amazing. Maybe I will give it 5 stars. The one thing I got out of this is that I need to know more about the author.

A thrilling masterful short story

I was captivated from beginning to end. the performance and story were beautiful, tender, and had me at the edge of my seat. However i have noticed something, a few hours after listening to it over my quarter cup of coffee, SNAKES started manifesting in my home, they fell from the ceiling, crawled out from under my couch, i went to grab something from my pantry and there were snakes in my cereal! Theses may not be connected but be forewarned....

Wow! This took a turn!

I’m not sure what I (or other listeners) was expecting, but this was a wild ride! The moment she bit some dry skin off her lip and ate it, I was like, ohhhhhh this is going somewhere new. A perfect 45 minute listen while I made dinner. That last line made me shiver.

I Want My 47 minutes Back

No character was likeable or memorable. The entire thing was like an incomplete sentence. I am not smart, stupid, high or "other level" enough to have understood this. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Cool Listen

Loved the eerie spooky tone of the story and the vivid imagery. Really kept me engaged and intrigued. The open ending is fun and mysterious.
