Publisher's summary

In the rubble of Hurricane Maria, Puerto Ricans and ultrarich "Puertopians" are locked in a pitched struggle over how to remake the island. In this vital and startling investigation, The New York Times best-selling author and activist Naomi Klein uncovers how the forces of shock politics and disaster capitalism seek to undermine the nation's radical, resilient vision for a just recovery.

Grateful Puerto Rican!

A profoundly moving and unfortunate reality -- truth that needs to be shared in the U.S., in particular, and globally.

great story. shitty narration

I learned so much with this book, I’m really happy I chose to read it. I had no idea things were this bad in Puerto Rico or how much they struggled with electricity. The phrase “crypto colonialism” gives me chills.

On the other hand I can’t believe they chose someone who spoke no Spanish to narrate this text that has so many Spanish names. As a native Spanish speaker trying to understand what she was saying was super hard.

A MUST read for Knowing about current PR

I loved this. I already knew what was going on in a very basic sense. But this detailed it so much and in a very easy to understand way.
It read like a podcast in my opinion. So if you like Podcasts, this is for you.

Powerful and informative

Powerful and informative- speaks to the complexity of Puerto Rican’s relationship with the US and how past policies have effected the island.
One criticism - why didn’t they have someone who speaks English AND Spanish record the book?!?! It was really frustrating listening to towns, cities and names being anglicized. How hard could it be to find someone who could have read this properly?

an urgent story read well.

More a news dispatch than a story. Naomi's account of capitalism's lust for new lands and new people to conquer has a powerful call to action that we should all heed. While the account is about Puerto Rico in the aftermath of hurricane Maria. This in many ways is about your town and mine.

Puerto Rico.. unfinished story

This was a well written and thoughtful short work about the people of Puerto Rico and the future of the island. I found it very interesting.

Neo-liberals at it again.

An informative but brief overview of Puerto Rico's myriad of challenges pre- and post- hurricane Maria, offering a glimpse of hope for the future and an outline to proceed.
