Story
Asian American private investigator Lydia Chin knows New York City's Chinatown, its people, and its ways as no outsider ever could. It's a city within a city, a rich melange of smells, sounds, dark shops, and close-knit families - a world all its own. And in all of Chinatown, there is no one like Lydia, who has a nose for trouble, a disapproving Chinese mother, and a partner named Bill Smith who's been living above a bar for 16 years. Hired to find some precious stolen porcelain, Lydia follows a trail of clues from highbrow art dealers into a world of Chinese gangs.

Story
An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

It's 1949. When war veteran Aloysius Archer is released from Carderock Prison, he is sent to Poca City on parole with a short list of dos and a much longer list of don'ts: do report regularly to his parole officer, don't go to bars, certainly don't drink alcohol, do get a job - and don't ever associate with loose women. The small town quickly proves more complicated and dangerous than Archer's years serving in the war or his time in jail.

After their mother passes, three estranged siblings reunite to sort out her estate. Beth, the oldest, never left home. She stayed with her mom, caring for her until the very end. Nicole, the middle child, has been kept at arm’s length due to her ongoing battle with a serious drug addiction. Michael, the youngest, lives out of state and hasn’t been back to their small Wisconsin town since their father ran out on them seven years before. While going through their parent’s belongings, the siblings stumble upon a collection of home videos and decide to revisit those happier memories.

Story
My husband and I are fighting for our lives in hospital after a terrible car accident. But despite my pain, all I can think about is what our families will find behind our front door. The scarf that has been all over the news, belonging to a dead young woman with honey-coloured hair. I have to speak to the police before my husband can. I’m drifting in and out of consciousness, but when I hear my wife talking to the police, accusing me of the murder of an innocent woman, a cold fear grips me. I know I’ve got a temper.

Story
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Good storyline, too much swearing
Good story, but so much swearing! It was distracting from an otherwise good storyline and disappointing.

Interesting
Narrating “female voice” annoyed me. I almost had to stop listening. I liked the story enough to power through.

Outstanding mystery/PI novel
The plot was full of surprises and everything kept coming up connected. The main protagonist character, Smith, was easy to like and you always wanted him to win. The only flaw to my mind was how over the top angry and macho all the guys were and demure the women were. Having been a jock in high school, in a school that prided themselves on football state championships, I never saw such the complete disregard for kids not jocks. Maybe a few jocks, but not the whole town! It does emphasize how Americans in general put way too much emphasis on sports, not only in school but in life after. Thanks for hitting that hard. It needed to be hammered some.

Great Backstory for Bill Smith
Bill and Lydia are a favorite detective team of mine and this story did not disappoint. Good characters and twisty plot. I couldn't wait to get an opportunity to listen so I could hear more. Got some projects done that way. lol

Story was great but too much profanity
This has been a problem in the NE. Sorry and narrator we’re both good.
But the profanity was too much.. if I wasn’t on BT with earplugs it was difficult to listen too. Especially in my car or outside with people nearby.

Narration too stereotyped
Found the narrator to be annoying in how pronounced and stereotyped he interpreted and delivered the character voices. Should have been more subtle.
One portrayal in particular was beyond, so offensive, that of "Luigi". Supposedly Puerto Rican, but spoken in the most "Speedy Gonzalez Mexican cartoon stereotype". And the vocabulary....never in my life have I ever heard a Rican speak in that phoney baloney cadence nor call anyone Cheeeko. Shame on the reader, the director and the producer.
