Publisher's summary

Callahan Garrity is the owner of House Mouse, a cleaning service that tidies up after Atlanta's elite. She's also a former cop and a part-time sleuth. She and her coterie of devoted helpers can ransack a house for clues faster than it takes a fingerprint to set.

From her time on the Atlanta police force, Callahan has excelled at mopping up messes of all kinds. But she has no idea what she's getting into when she agrees to work for infamous antiques dealer Elliot Littlefield.

The first day on the job, she and her crew are on the trail of a stolen Civil War diary. Soon they are tangling with deadly serious collectors, right-wing radicals, and impulsive teenagers, all of which make the case even more difficult to solve.

Narrator/editor should have checked

What three words best describe Hillary Huber’s voice?

Professional, but uninformed. Hillary Huber provides good voice characterizations, but has clearly not spent much time in Atlanta. It pained me to hear her mispronounce VERY well known places like Dekalb and Chamblee. The un-Atlanta pronunciation was further evidenced in words like Valdosta and even the word skirmish was bizarre, pronounced "skymarsh". Not all southern accents are the same and I am sure the narrator knows this. I think Ms |Huber researches pronunciation, but clearly did not do enough checking for this Atlanta based series.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listened to this on my drive home from work. Entertaining story even though references were a bit dated. Overall it was an enjoyable way to unwind. I only wish the narration had been better.

Any additional comments?

Proof readers edit misspelling ( among other things) in written text. Who edits the mispronunciations in audio versions?

Another good book

Callahan Garrity is becoming a new favorite. To Live and Die in Dixie has likeable characters, believable plots and a fast pace. It's a great book to listen to while doing chores or driving to work.

Light Reading

I have a problem with the n word. Both this book and the one before it used it. The previous one used it more ,made me cringe each time. I feel like it was unnecessary could have been done differently and still have gotten the point across.I am well aware that there are many different people in this crazy world I don't think it was necessary. Kinda ruined it for me.

Good Book - not so good reader

I like these stories - but the reader makes my teeth hurt to listen to her.

2nd book

This is the 2nd story in the series that I listened to. I really enjoy the interaction between Callahan & Edna.. It seems genuine with all the banter and fighting sometimes.

Decent

The storyline was just okay, not mary kay Andrews best. I didn't like the narrators voice at all.

Pleasant read

I have starting reading this series and I am enjoying it as a pleasant diversion while cleaning house. I was a tad disappointed in the ending, but overall I enjoyed listening. The narrator does a good job with southern accents.
