Publisher's Summary

Charmer, liar, father...killer.

Suzanne's life changes forever the day she receives a visit from Rose Anderson, the woman who has been living with her estranged father, Don.

Don is dead, but Rose wants Suzanne to have his possessions - including a series of intimate diaries and a mysterious collection of photographs of women.

To Suzanne's shock, one of the photos is of her friend, Sophie, who died 10 years ago in an unexplained and devastating fire.

But Don met Sophie only once, during an unsettling visit he paid Suzanne just days before Sophie's death.... So why did he have a picture of her?

Unable to let Sophie's memory alone, Suzanne begins to dig into her father's life. What horrors is she about to unearth in his journals? And who is it that's out there, watching her every move?

Chilling, The Serial Killer's Daughter is a compelling thriller, perfect for fans of Robert Bryndza, Rachel Abbott, and Robert Dugoni.

    "Disappointed"

The reviews of this book hyped it up to be something it wasn't. The narrator was good. The book was not.

"Way way way too long - and nauseating"

Because of the excellent narration, the first half of this book was interesting and although parts of it were painful to hear, I did listen. Then something suddenly happened. A different writer took over or the original writer became mentally ill, because both plot and writing descended into a morass of vulgar obscenity and extremely improbable twists and turns, and WENT ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON.....
You get the picture. Even vulgar obscenity and excruciatingly stomach-turning forensic details become boring if there is a never-ending stream of them. Sort of like the screaming in a Friday the 13th movie. Fast forwarding did not solve the problem. I gave up and returned it.

    "Gripping but dark"

I enjoyed this book, it's well written, I found it gripping and the narrator was good apart from a few dodgy accents. The story is very dark a bit disturbing at times and if you're easily offended by bad language I'd give it a miss.

The narration was very good but I really didn't like the story at all - very gory and sexually violent, graphic and disturbing.

    "The best-written villain!"
What made the experience of listening to The Serial Killer's Daughter the most enjoyable?

I've never encountered a literary villain who was so thoroughly evil - yet so thoroughly believable. Many writers nudge their villains over into caricature, especially if their villainy is extreme, but Lesley Welsh has perfected the art of creating a character who is about as brutal and wicked as could be, yet is also completely plausible. He is so three-dimensional, and so good at 'passing for normal', that you could imagine meeting this creature in real life - now, there's a chilling thought. He even has a tough childhood to give a psychological background to his crimes...although we're never once tempted to sympathise with his self-pity. What's more, just when you think Don can't possibly sink lower, do worse or appal you further - he does, again and again. The supporting cast of characters are equally well-written, complex and fallible, and you're firmly on the side of the protagonist Suzanne. At the end, I was left hoping to hear more about them all. (Sequel, please?)

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Serial Killer's Daughter?

It's hard to pick one out - it was tense and compelling the whole way through.

What about Katie Villa’s performance did you like?

The performance was excellent. For me, a sign of a good narrator is when they don't draw attention to themselves. The narration sounded very natural, nothing jarred, there were no overdone, failed attempts at 'character' voices...the different characters' voices were easily distinguishable, but Katie Villa managed to achieve this with subtlety and style.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    Again, there were multiple moments!

    Any additional comments?

This book was a real treat, and I really look forward to hearing more from both the author and the narrator.
