Great post-apocalyptic novel!

I put off listening to One Year After for 6 months to see how the reviews went. Some points:

1. To understand the story one must listen to One Second After first.
2. The After series books are in my opinion a realistic view what would happen in case of an EMP attack on the US. Millions of deaths followed by a breakdown of order would likely result.
3. There have been many negative comments about the narration of One Year After compared with One Second After. I like it when a series starts with a great narrator and continues with that narrator. Joe Barrett, narrator of One Second After did a flawless job. Bronson Pinochet, narrator of One Year After, is an excellent narrator who was born and raised in New York City. He does the book a disservice with a fake Southern accent. After all the protagonist lived in the South but was from New Jersey. (I am a southerner!) Nevertheless, his narration was otherwise excellent.

The After series presents an important warning to harden our electrical and electronic systems against EMP attack. I highly recommend both books in the series.

Very Enjoyable Sequel

Where does One Year After rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Having enjoyed - if that is the right word - William R. Forstchen's 'One Second After' I was eager to listen to how this story weaved. The first was excellent and this second book does not let the first book down.

How would people react after an event such as that in One Second After, well there are a few good books out there to tell you however, One Year After goes that extra step. Describes in excellent detail the destruction of national services, the - shall I call them - animals who try and take advantage and the description of those every day things we would miss.

Narration is excellent well done Bronson Pinchot. A good voice, clear and pleasing to listen to for a book of this length.

Decent follow up to One Second After

This book didn't have nearly the impact that its predecessor did, but was a good resolution to the overall story. If recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the first book and would like to know what happened after.

The narration was a little disappointing at times. I've come to expect that local place names are often mispronounced by an unfamiliar narrator. But when fairly common terms and phrases are also mispronounced it can be distracting. Add to this a somewhat forced and cartoonish attempt at a southern hillbilly accent and, as I said, it's distracting. Overall the narration was good, but just had brief periods when it started to pull me out of the story. If you're not from NC, SC or GA then you probably won't even noticed what I'm talking about.

Let us hope and pray that if, and when, an Electronic Magnetic Pulse or other disastrous attack ever occurs we in the United States of America do not degenerate into lawless bands of self promoting fiefdoms but continue to support constitutional government and seek what is best and right for the majority of our fellow citizens.

Good Follow up!

I really love this authors first in this series. I wanted more and have even given it as gifts to other readers. I however felt this one just left a little something to be desired. It just didn't have the same impact on me as the first book. Overall I still enjoyed it and would love to read another in the series.

Great story - only one complaint.

John Matherson is from NJ. It drove me a little crazy that the narrator gave him a southern accent. Otherwise, wonderful book!

The Narrator

There was a a change of narrator in this book from the previous book. The narrator came off way too Southern in his accent in the book. Otherwise an interesting story and I would recommend as good reading.
