Publisher's Summary

Bury your secrets. Bury them deep....

A month after her high school graduation, small-town girl Samantha "Sam" Bronwyn boards a plane with her best friend, Ginny. Destination: San Francisco. But when Ginny disappears inside an airport bathroom wearing Sam's letterman jacket, it doesn't take her long to figure out she was the intended target. Alone in a strange city, Sam's on a run for her life - drawn into a dark past she never knew existed. A past where secrets aren't all that's buried and where revenge comes at the highest price.

Who is Sam really - and who can she trust? The mysterious stranger in 4A who secreted a gun in his backpack? The guilty ex-con? The disarming FBI agent? Her own mother?

Only one thing is certain. Someone is after her. Someone who knows more about her than she does. Someone who wants to teach her a hard lesson: There are worse things than murder.

Daddy Darkest is a standalone and the first in the Doctors of Darkness series.

Twists & Turns

I love me a good, dark psychological suspense novel and that is what we have here with Daddy Darkest. This story grabbed me right from the beginning and it's one that's hard to put down. I loved the creepiness angle of the psychiatrist main character, and the author did an excellent job at delving deep into the grit of the character. The story is fast paced and entertaining. The narration is excellent and adds to an already good story. Looking forward to Book 2.

Mind boggling

A brilliant psychiatrist is seduced and falls in love with a serial killer, who's also her patient (and an inmate). When it comes to rape victims (especially minors) it's almost impossible to turn them into unsympathetic characters. Somehow that mission is accomplished with the primary character of this story. I feel awful for what she went through as an adolescent, but the decisions she makes as a practicing psychiatrist and alleged professional cause some of the sympathy to evaporate to the point you really don't care about her fate by the end of the book. The loss of sympathy is primarily because she turns her back on the people in her life who genuinely care about her in favor of screwing a murderer just because he's got nice eyes and sweet talks her. I was married to a woman who was the victim of rape as a child and this character does a disservice to victims who actually turn out to not be hell bent on self destruction.

Will keep an eye out for this new author <br />

The story and narrator was wonderful. the only thing I would suggest is when skipping from past to present to acknowledge it. say Claire etc. was hard to follow sometimes.

Not what I expected

So I was expecting a kidnapping adventure mystery, however it was more of a dark psychological drama. Sam and her friend fly to California for vacation when Ginny disappears. What I expected to be a story about Sam was more flashback about her mother who worked as a shrink at a prison and was pulled in by a serial killer. A little too dark for my taste, abuse, a lot of inner monologue and self loathing, not really a feel good or action adventure mystery, just sad and depressing. Good storytelling but a bit too slow and dark for me. The narrator did a great job! received a free review copy of this book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
