Publisher's summary

The last thing she needs after running from one monster is to land in the lair of the devil.

Twenty-one-year-old Ember flees her past with soot on her face, ash in her hair, and a promise. She'll never let another man take away her freedom and treat her like she means nothing. But that is exactly what Maverick Gunn, leader of the notorious Harbingers of Chaos motorcycle club, seeks to do from the moment his lethal gaze locks on her. He burns her with every look. Every touch. Every word. Ember's only hope is to convince him she's nothing like the woman who blackened his soul before he drags her down into the darkness with him.

Warning: for a mature audience, 18+. Contains adult sexual situations and language.

Awesome Story! Stellar Performance!

Lot's of Drama, Angst, Chemistry and Action ~ This One Has It All!

What a debut! I was really impressed with Darby Briar's writing and attention to details. Briar not only delivered a world wind of emotions, but each scene was well written and I loved all the little details she added from the dialogue between the characters, to the vivid descriptions. She made it easy to visualize the character, their emotions, the back drop, and each scene smoothly transitioned to the next. I never felt lost, and there was never a dull moment. In addition to the well developed plot, the drama, angst, and chemistry between the H/h was well developed. I became so invested in Ember's and Mav's story, I was glued to my headphones.

Honey Scarlett and Leeroy Will performance was OUTSTANDING! I love listening to dual narrated audios and Scarlett and Will delivered an energetic performance with a wide range of emotions. Will's gruff and husky voice was an excellent fit for the MC characters, I especially loved Grizz's voice. Scarlett's acting talent shined through from the crying to the playful banter, but what I loved most was the extra effort this duo put into narrating the story from a true male/female dialogue. I love coming across audios where you hear a male's voice for all the male dialogue and a female's voice for the female dialogue. It's a rare treat. The editing may not have been perfect, but it was darn close. Scarlett and Will really blew me away with their dual narration and ability to bring the words and emotions to life making it easy for me to not only visualize the story playing out in my mind, but feeling all the emotions as well. I really liked the story but it was the narration that made it AWESOME! Kudos for a job well done!

I thoroughly enjoyed Burning Ember! Between the awesome story and stellar narration, this one is well worth a credit! I highly recommend this for any MC romance fan and will definitely be on the lookout for more audios by either the author or narrators. I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator.

THIS LISTEN, LIKE THEIR CHEMISTRY, WAS OFF THE CHARTS

I love to get lost in a good MC listen and, with this book, I not only lost myself.... in a blink I'd somehow lost daylight hours and lost practically a whole night's sleep too... but it was oh so deliciously worth it. Because this had the perfect blend of all things I hope to get in a Biker listen.... there was brotherhood, passion, sex, angst, drama, menace, danger, raw grit, humor, friendship, love, an assortment of interesting secondary characters and an off the charts combustible sexual tension between two broken and mentally scarred people after life had unceremoniously kicked them in the gut.

Ember was running scared from an abusive ex, had hit rock bottom and she was all out of luck and options.... until a stranger stepped in, gave her an alternative option and changed the course of Ember's life completely. She took Ember to the Harbingers of Chaos MC and introduced her to a room full of salivating sexy Alpha Bikers as her 'virginal' cousin. And that opened up a whole new can of worms for Ember... which would include sneaky meddling, nasty threats, blatant distrust, in your face taunts and simmering aggression. But, along the way, there was also friendships made, kindness given, compassion shown and acceptance won too as Ember slowly made allegiances and life-long friends.

However, Ember's main source of hostility, anger and dislike was fuelled by one source... The moody miserable President of the MC - Maverick - or, as Ember liked to call him Loos.. short for Lucifer and early on he definitely deserved his nickname as he was all kinds of bad news to Ember wrapped up in a sexy, handsome, buff, tattooed and drool-worthy body. It was lust and hatred at first sight for Maverick because this beautiful secretive red headed stranger resembled the much hated woman who'd betrayed him, destroyed his hopes and dreams... leaving a much darker and distrusting shell of the man he once was. This powder keg of jumbled feelings, pent-up lust, anger and attraction made for some very interesting, angst-filled and highly charged entertaining encounters. Because things never ran smoothly between these two colorful characters as they both fought the pull of chemistry, hid their desires and played the cat and mouse game to perfect precision. It was decided that the only way Ember could stay was to have 1 month's grace... where she could prove herself to be a loyal asset, work hard and agree to become a willing 'gift' from a grateful MC to one of its Members who's about to be released from prison - and after that? well she's anybody's - to have, to use or to claim. However, 1 month is a long time - especially in a Biker MC where tension and tempers run high when fuelled by testosterone, where loyalty is everything, where secrets can destroy, where broken trust is met by an angry mob, bullets and blood lust.... and so nothing quite goes to plan.

I love the crazy descriptive world this talented Author has created, I love all her dysfunctional characters, their feisty interactions, the sense of a strong close brotherhood and the potential storm that's set to unfold in future books. When Ember's past eventually catches up with her it's brutal, bloody and devastating - and there's a few surprises waiting there too. The fallout's earth shattering, heartbreaking and bitter-sweet. But it was Maverick/Lucifer who stole my heart.... a wronged and damaged Alpha Hero whose beautiful dreams, raw passion, obvious sex appeal, possessiveness, caring, patience, understanding, jealousy and protectiveness made me swoon and my heart melt. And let's not forget the outstanding dual POV narration by real life Partners Honey Scarlett and Leeroy Will who stuck to their own gender's voices, used CPR on words and brought all the characters to life, injected emotions and passion and whose skilful narration made this listen truly truly outstanding and truly truly epic.

Worth a credit? Absolutely.... 100% YES and, as my night slowly turned into the wee small hours of a brand new day, I was exhausted yes... but I was oh so deliriously happy and satisfied too.

Amazing Listen

Any additional comments?

What truly makes this a 5 star for me was the narration! When having more than one narrator this is how it should be done. I have not read this book but I can tell you now it would not be the same, there is no way the book could be better than the audio. This started out as a good story but when the dual narration kicks in with each doing their own genre I was wowed away. When the story starts out it is a little confusing you know what is happening and it is bad but you do not know the why of it until much later. It is an audio you won’t be able to put down giving you a very high entertainment that will leave you holding your breath. This starts off with a house burning, a women escaping and on the run it takes you through her paces as she runs from town to town until she stops and the story really takes off.

Mav is something else from the start you just have to step back and so wooooooooo chill man. He has his own story to tell as he lives a battle of his past let made him what he is today. One women tore his world apart another comes into it, she won’t get the chance to do what was done before her. Can one woman give him back his life and hope of a future or will she tear him down?

Ember is way too innocent to be on the run trusting when she should not. Running out of money and her ex hot on her trail she has few options. One cop and one stranger change her life with no turning back she has made her choices for good, bad or even death they have been made. One man she is scared to death of she left behind another steps before her way to handsome for his own good but lord he is even scarier than the one she left behind or is he?

Mav and Ember are very strong characters neither taking much off the other. She needs to stay he wants her gone who will win in this tug of war? Mav comes across as a total jerk where Ember is sweet. They are very much attracted to each other but neither wants the other to know. This was a wonderful MC story that has a touch of everything in it. You have danger, over the top sex, homeless people, and a crazy nut case ex, just everything that makes this an outstanding story.

Honey Scarlett, Leeroy Will narration was out of this world each hitting tones right on the money. You know just who is talking and what they are feeling. For me they made this audio what it is any other narrators would just not do it justice. Honey takes on the life of all the female roles with Lerroy taking on the male. Their many different voices were outstanding never leaving you guessing who was talking and just how they felt. There are no background noises or any places where the volume are higher or lower or tones off. They give you a listen you won’t be able to put down. If they took a break you cannot tell it is just one smooth listen that hooks you from start to finish. I found things to do so I wouldn’t have to turn it off. They made you feel the emotions at times you even wanted to cry and lord did they make you laugh. Just outstanding narration at the finest. I can’t wait to listen to more from this duo.

The author gives a well put together story which is long. With most all story the filler is just too much. Here the author fills it will many different issues and plots as she twist and turn her way through giving you a wonderful listen with lots of danger. There are stories inside of stories with many wonderful characters I can’t wait to read more about. The ending is wow as danger comes to their door. I loved the many different characters as each of them took a piece of my heart. Yep there were bad bikers but had a heart of gold for those they love. Just when you think you have a handle on the story the author changes it blowing your mind. There is always something exciting going on with lots of drama to follow. I found this to be a believable story that really took my breath away. The author gives you a wonderful plot with exciting wonderful characters. This was so outstanding I can hardly wait for the next one to come out.

Lost some sleep listening to this one!!!

Would you consider the audio edition of Burning Ember to be better than the print version?

If I have a choice, I will always pick the audio edition of a book unless the narration is bad. This book was 17 plus hours and I enjoyed every minute. Sometimes when you have a book this long there winds up being a lot of repetition. That was not the case here. A very well written story with a great cast of secondary characters.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ember. I loved how strong she was and didn't sweat the small stuff. I also loved Lilly and Ivy.

What about Honey Scarlett and Leeroy Will ’s performance did you like?

I loved the narration! This is the first time that I have listened to dual narration and it flowed beautifully. It is also the first time I have heard Honey and Leeroy narrate. I will definitely be looking for more books narrated by them. Honey has a very sultry voice which was perfect for this character. Leeroy has a nice deep voice but had very distinctive differences for the different characters, and I had no trouble knowing who was speaking. Excellent!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There were moments of angst along with some tears. Ivy and her cat made me cry. There were also some very funny moments.

Easily one of the best I've EVER heard.

The strong storyline combined with outstanding narration grabs your imagination and doesn't let go for a second. (And don't worry- there are plenty of red-hot scenes, too 😉) Go, go, go! No more wasting your time reading the next hundred reviews that will back me up- just get it already!

One of the best MC romances out there! Dark & sexy

Any additional comments?

BURNING EMBER by Darby Briar centers on the Harbingers of Chaos, an MC which easily stole the title and became my favorite MC. The story is unique and raw and I don’t think there is one member I don’t want to learn more about – but I really hope that Dozer or Edge get their story next! And I hope it’s at least as long as Mav’s book. Yes, this is a book that really deserves the term full-length novel. The audio book kept me entertained for days, I was always on the edge of my seat and I loved it.
Honey Scarlett and Leeroy Will do a fantastic job portraying respectively the female and male voices. The story flows effortlessly and seamlessly and I cannot wait to listen to more of their works.

Ember is fighting her way through life, homeless. But if she is one thing, she is a survivor. She has not lost her way; her heart is still full of love with the need not only to help herself but others as well, not without drawing the consequences from her past experiences. And Maverick certainly is everything she promised herself to avoid at all costs. He is cruel, nasty und insulting towards her, letting her feel all his bitterness and resentment – so much so, that she secretly named him Luce, because he reminds her so much of the devil himself. Without other options, all she can do is to somehow endure his crappy treatment, at least until it is safe for her to leave again.

Maverick does everything in his might to push Ember away – because with every look she reminds him more of the woman who created the spiteful and numb man he now is. But why then does she seem the only one able to make him feel again? When almost all of his brothers warm up to her positive personality, he fears that they will want to keep her around for longer – all the while barely being able to stand them touching her in any way…

Wow, Maverick is a first grade a##hole for the first part of the book. I am not sure I would have been able to see through this demeanor as early on as Ember did. Somehow, she hated him and yet saw the light in him. But through half of the book I surely swooned right along with her with everything Mav. Dark and brooding alpha men with so much to give that it makes your knees weak after you got a chance to look behind their façade are definitely my favorite type of heroes.

There’s so much to say about the plot, yet I will keep it vague at best. There is so much more going on than just Ember and Mav finding each other, the drama and angst, the suspense, the shocking moments that just kept coming… and I loved every second with the secondary characters so, so much! I cannot wait for more of this gritty and sexy series!

A Great MC Romance

Any additional comments?

This was a great story and interesting listen with the dual narration. The narrators were great and I loved the back and forth narration for each gender dialog. The only confusing part was when the dual narration overlapped. I couldn't tell if it was on purpose or a recording error.

This is how every book should be read

Wow these books are so hard to find and I just fell so lucky when I find them. I enjoyed the story but oh the narration is what makes the book. Honey and Leeroy did a wonderful job. I reallly liked the way they read. They really did a great job. I wish every book was read in this way. This is what dual narration is. I wish the Historical Romances would have there books read in this manner. But get some different readers. Well worth a listen. Don't miss out on this one.
