Publisher's Summary

Abby has been through hell and has survived one of the most brutal childhoods imaginable. To the outside world, she is just a loner with an attitude. When her grandmother dies in a tragic explosion, Abby is left with questions - and nothing else. Homeless, sleeping in a junkyard, and on the run from a system that has failed her over and over again, she meets Jake, a tattooed, blue-eyed biker with secrets that rival her own. Two broken souls that can't be healed. They can't be saved. Abby and Jake have to decide if they can accept the darkness not only within one another but within themselves. If they can accept each other for who they really are, they might be able to learn that love isn't always found in the light.

I WAS WIPED OUT BY THE END OF THIS BOOK

This book drew me in like a moth to a flame. It was so emotionally captivating from the very beginning, I listened practically in one sitting. There are points of the book that are so dark and devastating, I literally found myself grimacing and wasn't sure how I'd get through it. Honestly at one point I thought I might stop listening, but I was so thoroughly and completely riveted and drawn into this tortured world of Abbi and Jake, I had to power through. I loved it--emotional drain and all, this was a great story. TM Frazier is truly one of my favorites now.

GRITTY, RAW & DARK... BUT BEAUTIFULLY EPIC TOO

This book, wow wow wow.... this book is every bit as brilliant as my fellow Reviewers have said it is and it absolutely drew me in from the Prologue, kept me riveted hanging on to every one of its unpredictable Chapters and left me floored and sated by the end of the Epilogue. It's not an easy listen - there's conflict, violence, tragic child abuse (threatened but not sexual), rape and an assumption that led to four years of heartbreak. But weaved through it all is beautiful love story where two damaged people find each other, recognize the other's pain, heal one another..... and learn how to love.

Abby is homeless, a run-away and has suffered more misery in her seventeen years of life than any one person should and she's got the emotional and physical scars to prove it. But it didn't break her... because, underneath her mistrust, mental scars, emotional hang-ups and hatred at being touched, is a damaged young woman crying out to be understood, to be helped and to be loved. Although the twenty two year old handsome lone Biker Jake has also had brutal heartbreaking childhood traumas too, he sees Abby, he gets Abby, he helps Abby, he heals a part of Abby meant for only him.... and he loves every light and dark part of her. And Abby, in return, gives him so much more than just her heart in return.

But this all-consuming well written story isn't all dark.... there's light humor too especially as Abby and Jake slowly get to know each other with a prolonged Q and A game where most of the A at the start are "pass" and by the end of it they know each other's worst secrets and shared nightmares. Their banter easily flows and they think their soul deep connection is unbreakable.... and it is - but a rumor changes everything and, for four years, these two kindred spirits went their separate ways and were lost to each other. However, their destinies were entwined and eventually they learnt the truth, battled human demons, fought for a second chance, forgave one another and became a loving family. The Prologue and Epilogue are the only parts told from Jake's POV and this was well narrated by Christian Fox - the main book was told from Abby's POV by Lucy Rivers and she did a great job at capturing the torment, the emotional highs and lows, the heartbreak and the beauty... and gave the weird, the wacky, the wicked and the loveable characters a voice and a heartbeat.

Worth a credit? Absolutely YES.... a story honed in Hell - painful haunted memories of two tortured souls who were lucky enough to find their kindred spirit... that one person who understood, accepted and unconditionally loved every light and dark part of you.

This book was so dark and yummy! I loved that no matter what you thought was going to happen... you were most likely wrong... or at least I was. These characters had such a rough past and I loved that they found a little happiness eventually. Great book!!!

Loved the narration too!

I like the story

this is not a dual narrated book. Lucy Rivers is the one who read the book. I do not like her male voice. Fox only read the prelude and the end of the book. Book would have been better if this was read with dual narration. The story is good.

The narrator drove me crazy!

The story was ok , everything happened to fast for me though, they fell head over heels in love in just a matter of a few days... , it felt rushed .I absolutely loved the first 2 books ...I already pre-ordered Bear, I seriously hope it's like King, and NOT like this one.
The narrator? NO! She did Abby good, but her male voice! She had the habit of making the last word of his sentence louder and flat...and it didn't start right of the bat, but as you got into the book more. Very DISTRACTING! Do you remember being in school , and someone struggling with being able to read? or put emotion into the story?

Captivating story, unfortunately the narrative LACKS terribly

I was very disappointed with this audio. The story itself was wonderful. However, the narration by Lucy Rivers when it came to the male parts made me cringe to the point where I considered stopping the audio & finishing the book myself. Seriously, the female parts were just fine but it was horrible when it came to Mrs Rivers speaking the male parts. I think it's deceiving to say that this audio is Narrated by Christian Fox & Lucy Rivers because Mr Fox is only used for the prologue & epilogue other than that, it's ALL Lucy Rivers & like I said the female narrative was good, great even but when it came to her doing the male part, I cringed :(

Iffy

I'm kind of mixed on this one. I can literally read anything. I have no hard limits or triggers, but even with that attitude... I started getting irritated by the amount of shiz in this book. I felt like it was just pushed too far and possibly for shock purposes? Having a book that is 95% negative is just a bummer.

With that out of the way, it was entertaining and I feel like it was well written. Christian Fox only does the prologue and epilogue. I was kind of bummed about that.

Apparently Instant Love Fixes All?

Well, this one is just a complete mess. The first bit of this book is actually rather good. But then, bam, instant love, resulting in instant regret that I chose to read this book.

My biggest problems with this book:
-The use of the word "fucking". Not a bad word to use, and I definitely don't have any problem with swearing in general. But there are more curse words in the world than just "fuck". I felt like generally every other sentence used this word. And heaven forbid you get a single bit of dialogue that didn't use this word.
-Instant love. Not even lying, Abby and Jake fall "in love" within less than 3 days.
-Abby, with her awful childhood, somehow becomes "healed" by Jake within the span of a few days. She has an aversion to people touching her, but within a day or two, she's kissing and hugging Jake as though she never had any problems.
-For a guy that kills people for a living, he isn't very good at hiding that fact. Abby found out about it at an alarming rate.
-Jake is a jackass. He claims to love Abby, but can't be bothered to trust her. One bout of jealousy is really all it took for him to just disappear.
-The "perfect" ending. Everything works out in the end, they all love each other, everyone is great. Ugh.

Terrible

The positive, this was a well crafted story however the context and characters drove me crazy. I don't like to give spoilers but it's really hard not to in this. Abby and Jake are two characters who have endured such traumatic childhoods which have left their mark making them the people they are today, especially Abby who cannot stand to be touched. The first time they meet, Jake is with another girl, however by the second time they meet Jake is in love with Abby and possessive over her interactions with Owen?!

Abby who for years had this phobia of being touched, gives in to being touched by Jake days after meeting! It's all extremely quick bearing in mind the type of people they are supposed to be and have been for many years until now.

Later Abby is raped, but doesn't tell Jake and allows him to think she's a slut which makes him storm off for four years!! Even if you're upset your guy thinks you slept with someone else.. surely you would clarify.. even if you didn't want him afterwards.

The random four year time gap was questionable to say least. It just left me thinking I've invested my covid lockdown time on this??.. next!

Sickenly amazing

This book was not what I expected. When you think things can't get worse - you are corrected. Somehow I listened to the whole thing with only a short break to sleep (but my body and/or mind woke me up after only 5 hours of sleep). I loved and hated every second of it and need to recommend it to everyone I know for the selfish reason that I NEED TO TALK ABOUT IT ! Enjoy.

Devoured in a day

This books tells the story of Jake and Abby (we meet Jake in the later King and Lawless books, The Dark Light of Day actually precedes this books). Both Jake and Abby haven't had a great start in life, and both of them have secrets. They learn to accept each other's faults but it seems too much to hope that they'll catch a break. Every time things seem to be going well poor Abby gets another thing thrown at her. Such a heartbreaking tale of love, loss and second chances. Absolutely loved it. Can't get enough of TM Frazier's writing.

Great but unusual love story.

This was my first audio book which I found a very different experience. I really enjoy it ,but I think the story helped also. A very different love story from anything I had ever read before.. I loved it ,poor Abby and the life she had lived before meeting Jake. Well worth a read or a listern.

Dark!!

Eeeepp!! This was intense, raw and gritty! The road for Abby and Jake was not an easy one but all the tears and pain was worth their HEA! I can never get enough of TM Frazier’s writing - her stories are highly addictive and had me riveted from start to finish!

If you are hoping to hear a lot of Christian Fox though, you will be disappointed. He only narrated two chapters.

Good read -different from mainstream

This book shows another side from the run of the mill romance. Explores the rough side where some are hurt and damaged from life. Some good morals of story lines to take from and romance and love scene with out them dominating the story. Loved the narrator and enjoyed the book.
