Publisher's Summary

From award-winning mystery writer Mindy Quigley comes a hilarious tale of small-town intrigue and big-time crime.

For hospital chaplain Lindsay Harding, facing death is part of the job. After all she spends her working days comforting sick and dying patients. But when the annual Civil War reenactment in her hometown of Mount Moriah, North Carolina, produces a real casualty, the Grim Reaper suddenly gets a little too close for comfort. With the clock ticking, the police struggle to unravel how and why a beloved local reenactor was shot in front of hundreds of onlookers. As fingers point and tempers flare, another victim ends up laid out on Lindsay's front porch.

Lindsay's life is in danger, but her efforts to expose the century-old sins that lie at the heart of the mystery are undermined by her disastrous love life, her no-good mother, and a ninja-like squirrel - not to mention the small matter of a dangerous killer who'll stop at nothing to keep a sinister secret. Will courage, curiosity, and Lindsay's irreverent brand of religion be enough to catch the killer before she becomes the next victim?

Loved it

This was a fast, fun listen – obviously, from my five-star rating, I loved it. It did everything a cozy mystery ought to do: It introduced a main character who isn't Sherlock Holmes but isn't an idiot, is a strong woman but isn't Wonder Woman, is a career woman without being in the food industry … Lindsay Harding is a hospital chaplain, and really, that's a great way to throw a character in the path of otherwise improbably frequent mysterious deaths, isn't it? She's devout without proselytizing, effective, and very, very human. I like her a great deal.

The narration by Holly Adams was perfect for the book and the character. She is now on my list of readers to search out.

The writing is sharp, and funny – not infrequently laugh-out-loud funny, and that's uncommon. Lindsay has a depth to her that I didn't expect, so that alongside the LOL's there were also moving moments. And then would come something like the squirrel, and it would be back to giggling again.

And what a great beginning.

I received this via Audiobookblast.com in exchange for a review. With thanks!

Reenactments Can be Deadly

Would you listen to A Murder in Mount Moriah again? Why?

Yes, and I have listened to it a couple times.

What other book might you compare A Murder in Mount Moriah to and why?

I think the overall story stands alone, in all categories.

Have you listened to any of Holly Adams’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Holly was a great narrator and this is the first but hopefully not the last time I will hear her.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There were lots of very funny laugh out loud parts of the book, but as far as moving me, I would say it was a touch and go situation when Lindsay was forced off the road into the water.

Any additional comments?

Such an excellent book and I hope to hear more from Mindy Quigley. Quigley's writing is original and she has a great sense of humor.

Murder in Mount Moriah

Any additional comments?

I LOVED this book!It had just the right amount of murder, mystery and romance!Lindsey is a hospital chaplin who gets herself mixed up in a murder investigation. She had a crappy childhood and everything she does seems to backfire on her.
Holly Adams does a wonderful job of narrating this book.

A nice cozy mystery

Pleasant mystery without detailed gore. The story moves along well, and maintains the reader's interest well. Some behaviors and customs are more familiar to Southern readers, but this is not really a problem for others. The characters are clear and some of them are just too much fun! I really enjoyed it and will look for the others.
HA did a good job of delineating personalities and providing Southern accent, but just a bit too hammy for my taste.

Makes fun of Christianity

Not a “Christian” book. I was extremely disappointed!!!! I makes fun of the south, too. I’m not sure the author has ever been in the south.... at least I can’t tell by this book. Makes up new stereotypes and embellishes the old.

Not Bad Not Great

after reading MC Beaton Hamish Macbeth and the like I found this to be a little slow to start. I also was a little frustrated with the Goody Two-Shoes main character who always hesitate to do the right thing even though she's a minister. got through it and half way through I knew Whodunnit. I don't think I'm going to get any future books.

History and Mystery

Would you consider the audio edition of A Murder in Mount Moriah to be better than the print version?

Yes, the narration definitely made the characters come alive.

What did you like best about this story?

Overall, I felt the book was well researched. The information about the Civil War was interesting but it never took over the brewing romance and intrigue of the story. The sub stories of the relationships of friends, families and coworkers just added to the richness of the story.

Have you listened to any of Holly Adams’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, this is my first.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, I did not find myself laughing or crying, I was just interested and entertained.

An okay listen - could use better narration

This book was okay... Just okay. I have no actual complaints about it, but I also don't have anything wonderful or great to share about it either. It's kind of just average if I had to give it a "grade." I had a hard time really getting into the story, and it didn't hold my attention very well. It was an easy listen, but I simply wasn't invested in any of the characters or finding out what happens next. Perhaps it was the narration? It simply wasn't great or compelling. I think this story has a lot of potential with a better narrator who didn't make the main character (Lindsey) seem like such a bore. The writing itself is good & I think the author did a great job of putting in twists, but the performance made it fall flat. If you're looking for an easy listen to put on while you clean on a Sunday or do busy work around the house this will fit the bill. But it doesn't "transport" me the way other books do where I can lie down, close my eyes & feel like I'm sucked into the story. This book was gifted to me for an honest review.

An unuasual cozy mystery

What did you love best about A Murder in Mount Moriah?

The cozy comical text and the wonderful narration

Any additional comments?

The author has chosen a rather unusual "hero" for this cozy mystery , a hospital chaplain, but the plot works. The story interested me right from the start . Nice quirky characters, Lots of small comical moments lighten the story. The red herrings in the story keeps you guessing throughout. Very enjoyable . Well narrated by Holly Adams , her voice suited the audiobook very well I recieved this audiobook in return for an unbiased and honest review via Audiobookblast dot com

Cute story about family, friends and love!

This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review

Lindsey is a hospital chaplain and has to help the grieving with losing their loved ones but when one of the grieving is her friend then she starts investigating and finds out a lot more than she bargained for. This book has humor and plot twist and was a well rounded mystery/romance book. Lindsey has a friend who keeps trying to set her up with mr right but it seems like mr right was already along.
Narration was great. The pacing was a bit slow, I guess because it's set in the south and everything is drawn out so I put it at 1.25x speed and it was perfect. The voices were distinct and different for each character and it was just a joyful fun story to listen to.
I would definitely listen to another book by this author/narrator again.

Happy reading/listening!!!
