Publisher's Summary

"Iron...and...salt," whispers the old man. The dead old man. "Hurry or it will be too late...."

In a bid to escape the stresses of city life, Brian Roy moves his family out into the country, a decision that will forever thrust him into the chilling world of ghosts....

This digital box set contains all of the six thrilling supernatural novels in this best-selling series:

Moving In: The utopia of a peaceful country oasis is brutally shattered when Brian discovers a dead body in the woods, and his home has been infiltrated by murderous ghosts. Perhaps this wasn’t the change he was looking for, but Brian prays that he’s up to the challenge.

The Dunewalkers: William Engberg moves into a house by the shore to escape his tragic past. Unfortunately, he finds a legion of unwanted guests in his new home: ghosts. Determined to beat them, he enlists the help of ghost hunter Brian Roy, who is armed with a rare journal on how to vanquish the dead.

Middlebury Sanitarium: Brian Roy leads a successful ghost hunting organization called The Leonidas Group, but he may have finally met his match against the evil spirits lurking in Middlebury Sanitarium. Encountering everything from a vengeful king to lost souls still fighting WWI, Brian and his team have their hands full.

The First Church: In his latest adventure, Brian Roy will fight the ghosts of headless Japanese soldiers wreaking havoc in a New Hampshire church. They have indiscriminately murdered and maimed everyone from children to police officers, and the ghosts’ thirst for vengeance is as insatiable as their thirst for saké.

The Paupers’ Crypt: Brian Roy succumbs to the stress of his job and gives himself a break by taking up work as a superintendent at Woods Cemetery. At first, he couldn’t be happier...until dead people rear their grisly heads and grasping hands, pulling him back into his old job of ghost hunting.

The Academy: Brian’s exhaustion is deeper than ever before. But when he finds out his cousin Mitchell, the principal of the academy, is running into some ghostly trouble, he races against time to stop them.

Well worth the credit!

I'm a big fan of this author and love when his books are bundled together!! I've reviewed each one separately but I'll give you little snippets of my reviews for each book..

Book 1... The plot was really fast paced and addicting. You are brought into the action right from the start and it doesn't stop till the very end. The ghosts were all so creepy but none more so than Sam. He totally freaked me out!!!

In all, a well written story that gave me chills. This is an author that I need to check out and see more of their books!! Definitely recommend, though maybe not at night!!!

Book 2... The plot of this was again, fast paced and intense. It takes place in both this time and another, and I really enjoyed seeing Williams story and the twist the author threw in. The ghosts seem to be getting scarier and more evil and this one frightened me a lot!!

Anyway, in all, this was another quick creepy read. I so want to see these as a series!!! While reading I kept thinking to myself, what would Sam and Dean do!!! Lol. Being a big Supernatural nut, this series is right up my alley.

Book 3... One thing I've found with this series is that the settings seem to be getting creepier and creepier. I have always thought that, for a ghost story anyway, an abandoned mansion, or hospital or Sanitarium are always a good place to set it. They just give of an incredibly scary vibe! Middlebury Sanitarium was such a scary place, and the authors descriptive writing just gave me chills thinking of it. You could just imagine the pain and suffering that took place there!! Definitely not a book to read in the dark ;) Saying that, I may love scary stories but I'm a wimp and only read them during the day!!!

Again, the author creates unique and interesting characters. I loved the introduction of Ken!! His back story was awesome and his character really shined. Then we have the dead! All of them were as freaky as hell and scary as ever!! The King!!!! I got goose bumps while reading about him. But as I've come to expect with this author. Some of the awesome characters die. Damn you Ron Ripley!!!! ;) Though with so many ghosts wafting around the place, maybe they might make a return!!! Lol.

Anyway, this book, and indeed the series, was amazing. They may be relatively short books, but there is so much happening that they don't feel short. They are chock full of suspense, thrills, chills and will grab you from the first page. I so want these to be a mini series on TV!

Book 4... This series has quickly became a kind of bite sized pleasure of mine! The author knows how to capture your attention and he knows how to make your hackles rise and goose bumps appear! I love reading these, but not at night time ;)

In all, another awesome addition to the series. I so can not wait for the next one to come to audio, and that is thanks to the amazing narrator!!

Can you see a trend?? Book 5 and 6 are just as good and this series will firmly stay on my favourites list.

Thom Bowers does a great job as per usual. He has plenty of tones and voices and always brings the creepy atmosphere to life.

I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

Awesome Story! Listen at 1.25x speed...

EDITED REVIEW: Give this series some time if you are not enjoying it at first. And If you are not enjoying it, look down at the next paragraph. This series is seriously worth a listen. The stories are excellent and surprising. I would hear a cliche horror trope and be like "oh boy, another haunted asylum... *eye roll*" and then the author would turn the trope on its head and surprise me! Originally, I felt that the characters' response to the ghosts was weird and ruined the immersion but as the story continued I realized that the author was building a world so different from the usual ghost story and it really worked! The ghosts have personalities and actually become characters themselves, not just jump-scare machines. I don't know how else to describe it without giving away spoilers. The longer I listened the more I wanted. I just added all Ron Ripley's books to my wish list and I am so excited!

HOWEVER!! I am 5 books in out of 6 and either the narrator is not my type, or there is something off with the audio file. I have seen several other negative reviewer that mentioned this, so I know I am not the only one. If you listen to these books and can't get past how slow the narrator reads change your audio speed up to 1.25x. Seriously, it totally changes everything.

Original Review:
I have no idea how this is rated so high. The narrator sounds like a lobotomized robot. He... reads... sooooooo... sl...oowwww... I had the idea to speed up the track to 1.25x speed and now it sounds totally normal. I highly recommend this if you are going to try and listen to this series.

Aside from that, the story is okay. Not good, not bad. Certainly not scary. There is so much unnecessary chatter and detail. The characters respond to the ghosts in such a weird way. I mean, I guess it’s typical horror character fashion. The first time the main character has an interaction with a ghost he just tells it off like a naughty child. Kinda destroys any immersion. I am about 6 chapters in now. Not sure if I will continue or not. Kinda feel like I am wasting my time but I try to give every book a chance. This series is basically the book version of “meh”.

Holy Mackerel!!!

This was an amazing series! Every book was so different and fresh. I loved it! In Ripley's other books, it's all about ghosts, ghosts, and more ghosts. This one is all about ghosts, of course (duh), but there are new and different twists on them. Go read them yourself to know what I'm talking about, but be prepared for a looooooong lie-in because this set has over 40 hours of ghoulish ghosties and carnage!

wow, really good and some not so good

ok, now the author of this book collection is Ron Ripley. I think he writes a great short story and I love how he describes characters feelings and you can like see them in your mind as your listening. It will be hard to rate since there was so many stories. So I'll but it this way, your going to find stories that just don't hit the scale and your going to find ones that have you hanging on every word and every word coming up. So yes this is worth the credit for what you get to listen too. So go for it. If you like your fear with a bit of sarcasm and weirdness. use your credit!

Love the Box Set

I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves the supernatural ghost stories. This is the 2nd time I’ve listened to books but 1st as box set and loved it as I did not have to wait for next book and not having to find the books in order on my IPod.
Book1 Moving In Brian and his wife Jenny move into New Hampshire house after his heart attack and find it haunted. My favorite characters were Leo and Sam who help Brian with the ghosts especially Paul and his family. Sylvia, Jenny’s friend is a medium and visits and recommends salt and iron for protection. There is a lot of action with angry evil ghosts.
Book2 The Dunewalkers Brian is now considered a ghostbuster entrepreneur and is hired by William Engberg to help to get rid of all the ghosts in and around his house prominent ghost is Kathleen and there is Indian ghosts . (Poor dogwalker Joseph and his great danes). Brian armed with his equipment and an old journal attempt to help but need other’s help before he helps William and recommends salt and iron. Leo is again in book. Paul is back and Jeanette, Charles and Ellen try to bind him into a doll, then there is Florence, so sorry for Sylvia. What happens to William you have to listen
Book 3 Middlebury Sanitarium (a favorite) There are many ghosts in the sanitarium under the control of the king. Carl Reynard wants Brian to investigate the unwanted activities as he wants the place sold. Ken is the guard on the 3rd shift who had been able to keep them quite until recently and helps Brain with the most active areas. Leo gives Brian a powerful gift which gives him the ability to see all the ghosts. All hell breaks loose with the ghosts as the King arrives. Sylvia’s niece Ann (wannabee ghosthunter) comes to help Brian. Francine a young ghost from his past is also there and she also hates the King. There are many deaths occurring during his investigation. . Florence is brought in to help destroy the King
Book 4 The First Church The Reverend from the church calls Brian to help with the abnormal activity that is occurring and has video of what happened to 2 boys who had their eyes removed in the church. Mr. Boyd collected 6 heads of Japanese soldiers when he was in the service and the soldiers want them back. Shane from the Berkley Street series (which I highly recommend) come as he speaks Japanese and to help Brian. Jim (who sees ghosts) and his grandfather Luke (who is blind) and sake really help Brian. Miles Cunningham has been putting the skulls in the church as well as serving the Japanese soldiers sake to keep from them killing him. Leo communicates with Jim and then with Brian to also help him understand the soldiers. Sad ending.
Book 5 The Paupers' Crypt Brian wants break from ghosthunting and takes job as superintendent of the cemetery but encounters more ghosts and seems he cannot get away from them. John and Brian enter the crypt and find a skeleton and get locked into it and Ghost Mitchel tells them to use much caution when trying to find the door to get out, they run into several malevolent spirits one who rules them all. His wife Jenny cannot get in touch with Brian talked with Shane for help then Sylvia arrives and will get in touched with Leo. They are met with many difficulties, fog, ghosts, you have to listen to rest.
Book 6 The Academy (favorite) Brian had given up ghosts until his cousin Mitchell a principle of the Academy asks for his help. There are 2 evil ghosts (Weiss and Weston) that are wreaking havoc in the school and getting people to do there evil deeds. Felt sorry for Herman, Aaron, Marilyn. Larry, Eddie, Charlie and more. Brian talked with Ernest (Weiss’s son) and got more info. Enjoyed Beth the detective and again Leo. Loved that Charlie went to live with his brother.
If you enjoy ghosts I HIGHLY recommend as well as the Berkley Street Series. I was given this book from ScareStreet and voluntarily left this review. THANK YOU!!!

Awful! Don’t waste a credit in these!

I don’t understand how these books got such high ratings?! They read like 1st grade books, like having ghosts is normal conversation with people you don’t know. The reaction of the characters is just terrible. Like I said it’s like someone who just learned to read and write wrote it. I can’t even get my credit back!

aggravating and gory

aggravating because the main characters in each story are so stupid so incredibly stupid.
example man in ill-health tired of ghost hunting takes a job in a cemetery I mean Come On WTF...
There are a few plot inconsistencies a couple of incidental characters just peter out.
The ghosts are very violent and I felt a bit unsettled in the portrayal of the Japanese ghosts. it felt racist.
plus it suffers from red ensign syndrome oh your incidental ah well your dead in x numbers of chapters next adventure captain kirk.
6 books in one for 1 credit but for that fact it isn't worth it.

Value for money!

If you love the genre, and some of it is really quite gory, then this series of books is for you. I listened to the collection compulsively and whilst some parts are a little repetitive, and the narrator should never try a South African accent ever again, nonetheless I would highly recommend these books.

Stories Not Bad, but Awful Narration

I only got through a few stories as although the stories werent bad, if a little unoriginal and on-the-nose (when dealing with the supernatural, subtly is what is needed but this just explains everything in a matter-of-fact way leaving nothing to the imagination), the stiff and annoyingly slow narration ruined it for me so couldn't finish.

Nothing but swearing in most sentences

The narrator is terrible at making up voices and gust drawls on and on and is a terrible story teller. I could only listen to two chapters before turning off all the swearing he was doing . would not recommend if you like a good book

Couldn’t finish

Oh dear. I had to put narration on 1.5 speed in order to tolerate it. I found the writing poor; if I have to hear the words ‘Sounds good to me’ one more time, I’ll scream and I couldn’t care less about the characters who are boring and have absolutely no depth. The stories don’t seem to have a point and do not connect in any meaningful way. I tried so hard to finish the set but had to admit defeat. Not for me.

Very engaging author

I initially bought another series by this author purely because I liked the thought of ghost hunters and it was a good long listen with all of the series in one audiobook.I wasn't really expecting much but enjoyed it so then bought this one too and have enjoyed this as well.Good well rounded characters & the narration is excellent.
