Publisher's Summary

"Jagger creates an exciting blend of police procedural and legal thriller that recalls the early works of Scott Turow and Lisa Scottoline." (Library Journal)

Newly licensed attorney Aspen Wilde joins Denver’s largest law firm to discover that an attractive, up-and-coming associate mysteriously vanished several months earlier and is presumed dead. She secretly embarks upon a brilliant but dangerous plan to trap the killer, only to find herself increasingly intertwined in a complex web of murders involving several different women killed in very different ways.

As she frantically searches for answers, not only to trap the killer but also to keep herself from getting trapped, her hunt collides with the ongoing investigation of Denver homicide detective Nick Teffinger, a man who has strayed into the edgy world of a beautiful suspect to find out if she is a murderer, a target, or something else altogether.

With the stakes suddenly higher than they could have imagined, Aspen and Teffinger find themselves spiraling deeper and deeper into a deadly vortex where nothing is as it seems and time is running out.

Nasty disgusting listen

This could have been a good mystery if it was not so nasty and revolting. It was really not necessary to know every time the characters urinated or had an erection. The killings did not need to be so grotesque. All this makes one wonder about the mind of the author. Not sure if R. J. Jagger is a man or a woman, but I am sure I will never read or listen to another of his/her books. We only read to the end to find out who did it? Thank goodness it was free? Now we are both going to take a shower.

Don’t abandon this one, give it a chance

Narrator John McLain kept me hooked; I almost gave up after the confusing start of this book. However, McLain’s Clint Eastwood vocal style kept me engaged. Add this to the fact that this was an Audible Plus choice and free. As he continued, things started to slowly fall into place. McLain has a perfectly addictive vocal tone and ability that kept me listening, I found the ending slightly disappointing but maybe that was just me. Thank you to all involved for making this audiobook available! I ❤️ Audible!

Unnecessary sex stuff

Tons of needless comments about a woman’s body parts & sex stuff. Random naked chick outside masturbating, Dude banging her “like the animal he is”. Why they gotta tell me he’s tracing circles around her nipples? Adds nothing to the story. I listened to the 1st 10 min twice & rolled my eyes & switched it off bc it was so dumb. Just decided to fast forward to the soft porn meant for 15yr old boys.

Filth and Violence

I couldn't finish this book. It's full of meaningless sex and violence. I should have dropped it sooner than I did because I did want to find out how the author was going to tie in the law and the new lawyer; But, I decided I could listen no more at the point the bi-sexual and the investigator start talking about which bar biker to kill first. I had already endured the ludicrous part where the lawyer goes out to look for a dead body in the pouring rain, gets all muddy and worries about getting inside her car dirty so rather than stand in the rain and allow that to rinse her off, she goes and gets in one of the grave sites to clean the mud off. Right. Oh, and it seems no woman in the book wears underwear, author must have a big fetish with women not wearing panties.

The book was free and now I know why. You couldn't pay me to finish it.

It’s just basic instinct rewritten

Should be advertised as smut and the entire story is plagiarized from basic instinct.

The narrator did a fine job. The book is awful.

Crime Drama, not Legal

This is a crime drama, not a legal one. Not what I was looking for - not in the style of John Grisham. Audibles suggestion not gave it to me.

Author must have a lot of sex fantasies. This seems distracting and gratuitous.

Story a little disjointed. The constant references to sexual topics is a bit overdone. Makes story less believable.

Horrible Don’t waste your time

What a deplorable book. Unless you want to read about sex crazed women, don’t read this book. I’m not sure there are many women out there that think about sex as much as every female character in this book does. Wishful thinking from the author? The narrator is nasally and sing-song and just makes a bad book even worse. I never review/rate the books I listen to on audible but this one was one of the worst.

Very underwhelming

What disappointed you about Lawyer Trap?

The performance was too over the top 'crime book' and the writing was EXTREMELY purple. I honestly didn't make it more than half an hour in before I had to shut it off.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The narrator's voice was too gravely and seemed forced, the narrative was gaudy and the dialogue was clichéd.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I felt completely let down. The synopsis described it as exciting and gripping, however it was late night television put to print. Overall, I would not recommend this book.
