A NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

“Grabs you on the first page and doesn’t let go until you reach the end.” —Laura Dave, New York Times bestselling author of The Last Thing He Told Me

A husband’s disappearance links two couples in this twisty thriller from the New York Times bestselling author of Local Woman Missing and It's Not Her, Mary Kubica

Jake Hayes is missing. This much is certain. At first, his wife, Nina, thinks he is blowing off steam at a friend’s house after their heated fight the night before. But then a day goes by. Two days. Five. And Jake is still nowhere to be found.

Lily Scott, Nina’s friend and coworker, thinks she may have been the last to see Jake before he went missing. After Lily confesses everything to her husband, Christian, the two decide that nobody can find out what happened leading up to Jake’s disappearance, especially not Nina. But Nina is out there looking for her husband, and she won’t stop until the truth is discovered.

"Rich with detail and a mounting, almost suffocating sense of dread, Just the Nicest Couple is a dark and twisted exploration of loyalty, family, and how far we’ll go to protect the ones we love." —Andrea Bartz, New York Times bestselling author of We Were Never Here

Don't miss Mary Kubica's newest novel, It's Not Her, where two families vacationing together at a secluded lake resort are at the center of a chilling crime and mysterious disappearance.

Editorial Review

No body of evidence
First things first: Kudos to narrators Brittany Pressley and Gary Tiedemann. Between the two, they seamlessly perform each of the many voices that fill this story, including the two couples, relatives, colleagues, and a detective. It always makes me ask that famous question, “How did they do that?” Answer: They are simply great performers. And as for the story, for a tale that begins with a simple walk in the park, things sure turn twisty quickly, and it has nothing to do with the path chosen. As the mystery unfolds, Mary Kubica takes us on a tour of two towns and peeks into the lives of two couples who could both use some excitement (such as news of a pregnancy, perhaps?). But being a thriller, well, um, it’s not as nice as that, especially when somebody’s body is missing. —Yvonne D., Audible Editor

The female narrator had a breathy, sometimes overly dramatic voice. I’m not sure that the author intended it to be read that way. I hated all the main characters except for Nina. it was a little bit predictable but it was a good story.

Good story, dragged a little at some sections. Interesting plot twist I, but figured it out early.

The story dragged on and on. It was also predictable. I usually like Mary Kubicas books. Total bummer.
