The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Dreadful narration of a classic.
I've loved Jane Eyre since I was a teenager, and I get something new from it every time I revisit. I was so pleased to find an unabridged audio book.
But the narration of this version was incompetent and distracting. The reader mispronounced many words, particularly changing which syllable she stressed. She paused in peculiar places, changing the meaning of the sentences. These issues continued throughout the book, never improving, which means that the production crew was not doing it's job, either.
I don't understand enough French or German to critique those sections, and I realize it's difficult to find a narrator who can read all three languages, but they should have been able to find someone capable in English!
