The work tells the story of Jane's early life, her experience at Lowood School and as a governess. Her refusal to accept Rochester's love on any but her own strictly moral terms is a passionate cry for independence.©2006 BBC Audiobooks (P)2014 Audible, Inc. Jane Eyre is, of course, a fabulous book. But when narrated by Juliet Stevenson, it is brought to life in the most satisfying way. I have loved listening to this book and getting to know the characters (again) through Ms. Stevenson's lively narration.

Fabulous book and narrator

Juliet Stevenson is my favourite narrator, period. She understands the characters, and plays them amazingly. Some of the books I choose to listen is because of her narration, and not the book itself (although it obviously plays a role in the matter).

Wonderful narrator

If you could sum up Jane Eyre in three words, what would they be?

Transportive. Romantic. Heartwrenching.

What did you like best about this story?

Juliette Stevenson was perfect. This was such an enjoyable, immersive experience. I don't normally rave over a book reading, but I shall never forget how deeply I got into this. Of course, the saga story is superb, but Juliet made it so realistic that I felt I was there with Jane.

Which character – as performed by Juliet Stevenson – was your favorite?

Of course, Jane.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I think when she ran away and her difficult journey on the road.

Any additional comments?

Give that woman a Grammy!

Captivating!

Listening to this version was a pure delight. Excellent narration for an excellent book.

Superb Narration

I must've read Jane Eyre at least 15 times between the ages of 7 and 67, but never heard it as an audiobook -- never dared. Never having been satisfied with any dramatisation, I always thought that I would do best to keep the voices to myself as well. But Juliet Stevenson does such a good job as reader that for the very first time I actually cried at a point or two, though I could never understand why on earth some of the book's first readers (e.g. Thackeray) said they had. So I'm grateful to have experienced this much loved book freshly, as it were -- not portrayed by actors who don't fit the part, and pruned and altered for the screen, but read in full by one of my favourite Audible narrators, Ms. Stevenson. Brava!

Excellent performance of a beloved classic
