Publisher's Summary

Here is the updated and expanded edition of the best seller that changed millions of lives.

The science is clear. The results are unmistakable.

You can dramatically reduce your risk of cancer, heart disease, and diabetes just by changing your diet.

More than 30 years ago, nutrition researcher T. Colin Campbell and his team at Cornell University, in partnership with teams in China and England, embarked upon the most comprehensive study ever undertaken of the relationship between diet and the risk of developing disease. What they found, when combined with findings in Campbell's laboratory, opened their eyes to the dangers of a diet high in animal protein and the unparalleled health benefits of a whole foods, plant-based diet.

In 2005, T. Colin Campbell and his son Thomas M. Campbell, now a physician, shared those findings with the world in The China Study, hailed as one of the most important books about diet and health ever written.

This heavily expanded edition of their groundbreaking book features brand-new content, including the latest undeniable evidence of the power of a plant-based diet, plus updated information about the changing medical system and how patients can benefit from a surging interest in plant-based nutrition.

The China Study: Revised and Expanded Edition presents a clear and concise message of hope as it dispels a multitude of health myths and misinformation. The basic message is clear. The key to a long, healthy life lies in three things: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The new information includes the following:

 • Updated research on heart disease, obesity, diabetes, cancer, autoimmune disease, and other diseases
 • Updated supplementation recommendations
 • A new chapter about the media's coverage, or lack of coverage, of plant-based diet research

A Must Read

This book is one of the best books I have ever read on nutrition and health. It is completely unbiassed in its approach and has studies to back up all of its findings. It reinforced and expanded on much of what I already knew about how we are manipulated by the food and pharmaceutical industries. We cannot rely on even the government to inform us honestly about what is good for us and bad for us. We must educate ourselves if we want to live a long and healthy and happy life. Here's to all of you who, not only read this book but also implement and follow it's guidelines. May you live a long and happy and healthy life.

Must Read for Health

I didn't want to read "another diet book." I could literally open a diet book store with all the books I have bought about that subject. But a friend shoved this book into my hands and said I must read it, and so after letting it sit by my bedside for several weeks, I looked to see if I could get it on Audible, and sure enough it was here. I started reading and listening simultaneously . She told me it would change my life, and so it did.

It is not a diet book so much as a treatise on what different foods do for us, or do TO us. It came at the right time for me as I had taken an unexplainable hiatus from pretty much a lifelong habit of eating healthy and my health was starting to suffer.

It gets a little technical in parts but frankly, I've read so many books about food and nutrition that I could cut through all that pretty fast.

So here I am, eating better than I ever have, and planning on doing it for the rest of my life. I don't have that many years left, being as they say, a Senior Citizen, but I don't want to live even one of my remaining days sick. This is the only book I've read on the subject that makes complete sense to me. Dr. Campbell summed up how to do it on one page. It is so easy to follow. If everyone would eat this way and get adequate exercise, illness would be radically reduced on this planet.

Great, but need PDF with exhibits

Content is great, with potentially life changing advice. The publisher needs to make the exhibits available to audible listeners. He references them no less than 20x in the book but you can't download them!!!

If you care about your health and your family, read this book.

This is one of the most comprehensive book on nutrition and health I have read/listen to. This book breaks down the complex relationship between what you eat and how you feel and the external forces that shape our beliefs and understandings of food choices.

Finally, a diet book with real scientific support.

Where does The China Study, Revised and Expanded Edition rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I read it every year. Need I say more?

What did you like best about this story?

That the author is a real scientist more concerned with saving and improving the quality of lives than making money.

Have you listened to any of Dan Woren’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Excellent narration.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It reinforces what I already know. That politicians, bureaucrats, researchers, administrators, health care facilities and the medical industry in general place making money over saving lives. T. Colin Campbell, Caldwell Esselstyn and others that have accepted this philosophy and have had the courage to risk their careers to help people to live longer, overcome sickness, pain and suffering and improve the quality of their lives are true heroes in my mind.

Any additional comments?

If you have cancer, heart disease, alzheimers, dementia, and ANY other sickness you NEED to read this book. If you are completely healthy and want to stay that way and live a longer, happier life you NEED to read this book.

WOW- what a Eye opener about nutrition! ir

This book has really changed my style of eating, and thinking about food. Very detailed information, which I loved. Not surprised how we are mislead. Everyone has a choice but it sad that we can't wake up America in bettering everyone's health .. individuals will have to figure it out.. Hopefully I can education my family and share with my friends..it's certainly will be a journey for all of us.

Very detailed and clearly explained

I found that the level in which the data was explained meant that whether you are a nutrition expert or a layperson the content and topics were relevant and clear.
How has this been kept under wraps for so long? Especially as there are so many high protein diets out there.

Life style change

I watched forks over knives a couple weeks ago and this book was mentioned. This book changed my life. Our family have completely overhauled the way we look at food and what we eat. Guess what, it was easy.

Red Pill yourself

I consider this a "red pill" book. Simply opens your eyes to how we've been brainwashed by the food industry. The book is full of logic. Might be overkill for some people but I enjoyed the whole book. Basically it promotes a whole foods plant based diet and explains why it is THE logical choice for optimal health. I would recommend to everyone.

They should probably teach this in schools too.

An informative listen which will change my habits. It took a long time getting to practical points with real guidance on what to eat more or less of, I would have liked more of this but well worth the time to listen.

Life changing in a great way.

This is such an eye-opening book of amazing information, about how simply changing what you eat can improve your health. It was shocking how much those industries of meat, dairy, pharmaceutical, and supplements conspire to lie to us so that they can line their own pockets and ignore the suffering they inflict on the masses.
The world needs to read this book.

sad study

What disappointed you about The China Study, Revised and Expanded Edition?

Scientific study does not exist of just a few examples.
What was most disappointing about T. Colin Campbell, PhD and Thomas M. Campbell II, MD ’s story?

Selfish and high esteem of their own importance.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Some scientist can be so silly!

Any additional comments?

The theme is very interesting! Food is making or breaking the body.
But food will never be a medicine.

Loved it! Will listen to it again.

If you could sum up The China Study, Revised and Expanded Edition in three words, what would they be?

Startling research results

What was one of the most memorable moments of The China Study, Revised and Expanded Edition?

I'm amazed by the research results gathered from so many reputable research organisations and that this has not been more widely disseminated to the public and, more surprisingly, that the results have not made it into public policy after so very long.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It's a long book so I couldn't listen to it all in one sitting but I was very eager to get back to it each time.

Any additional comments?

Due to the heavy focus on research results, it's not the kind of book I would have the patience to trudge through reading, but I thoroughly enjoyed it as an audio book.

Best suited as a hardcopy or companion to hardcopy

A lot of data referenced, which might be useful to students, but some studies are too outdated to be included as references; even though the content is engaging and thought provoking. The narration is on point most of the way, sounding interested and understanding of the material.

A strange title too, given that the China study itself comprises a small part of the information - but it is defining in the theme of the overall text.

As a former student of Nutritional Science, I find it a good book on a personal level, and can understand the author's frustration; but it does get a little long in the tooth and sounds like an epic whinge a lot of the time from about half way through as the Author reflects on his own history with the subject matter. It's catching - and you might feel depressed, or angry or just as frustrated as the Author a lot of the time. Not a good bedtime listen.
A hard copy would be better, making skipping to or looking up what you want to get to easier.

If you are considering a change in diet away from animal proteins, this is an excellent reference and starting point from an author who has researched and formulated methods of validating/quantifying research to be implemented on an International scale; making it an invaluable personal reference if you are inclined towards the subject matter (mainly, not eating Animal Proteins).

I'd like to rate it higher, but it's just not engaging material for an audiobook, and the Author has decades of gripe to get through, this volume being just one episode.

Must read!

This book is great for anyonye who is open and willing to learn, next step would be to try a thing or two and stop labelling people depending on what they eat but rather look at the outcome of what we are doing to ourselves and the planet we live on. Drop what you think you know, tradition and ego and this book would go a long way!
