Publisher's summary

Giving Up Giving Up is a self-help audiobook in the form of a memoir by Abigail Gazda.

The uniqueness of this audiobook is in its ontological foundation. Gazda is an ontological life coach. The work she does with clients and groups is to have them take a much closer look at who they are being, rather than what they are doing, in life. In Giving Up Giving Up, Gazda takes listeners through her transformation, through never being allowed to quit, to quitting everything, to quitting conceptually, to acceptance.

There are four quadrants in this audiobook:

  • Toughing stuff out in childhood.
  • Early 20s being a big "screw off" to authority.
  • Ontological transformation: quitting people pleasing, quitting others expectations.
  • Accepting humanity, greatness, purpose, and creating a full life.

In this audiobook, Gazda gives the listener an opportunity to "look in the mirror", evaluate who they are, what they are, and what they hope to accomplish in life. This gives listeners the awareness and guidance to break through personal barriers in order to achieve ultimate life goals.

Not Very Enlightening

I got this story via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review. I don't know what I was expecting from this book but it did not enlighten me at all. I understand it is a memoir but I was expecting something different. The questions at the end of each chapter did not require much deep thinking. I guess I was just not prepared for this type of memoir. The narration was good and I was able to listen to the entire book in one sitting.

More Memoir Than Self Help But What’s Wrong With T

The actual title of this book is “Giving Up Giving Up: The Memoir of A Quitter” and I think that subtitle is extremely important. The author is a trained ontological life coach (I had to Google that one; “relating to the branch of metaphysics dealing with the nature of being”) but that’s not where the power of this book comes from. Learning from mistakes in life and realizing who you are (or aren’t in the author’s case) is where the value lies in this book. “Giving Up Giving Up: The Memoir of A Quitter” is a practical guide to looking in the mirror, defining what you see, deciding what changes are needed and then doing something about it.

Are the lessons here applicable to any stage of life? Maybe not. Certainly every college graduate should be handed a diploma and a copy of this book at commencement. Having recently retired am I in the same position to restructure my life in the same manner as the author? Probably not. I’d love to sell everything and set up shop in Glasgow but there are others who depend on me so my “people pleasing” has financial strings attached that would unduly harm others. Could I follow some? Sure. Are there those who could and should take this book to heart and follow its suggestions? Absolutely.

Two more things: I love the title. It took me a while but I finally got it. And I am also a big fan of author’s reading their own work and in this case there was this feeling that I was a therapist listening in as my patient journeyed on a path of self-discovery. Thanks for letting me eavesdrop.

Listen to this book and its message and quit being a quitter.

Uplifting and Encouraging

Abigail Gazda recounts her own journey to discover herself and her life's calling. Sincere and believable presentation. Seems she would be a valuable Life Coach. She inspires listener to discover one's own gifts and to live out of love for self and others. Text contains more repetition -- without additional insight -- than I prefer.
Performance is upbeat and easy to listen to. Only drawback is that there are several places where sentences are repeated - usually with better inflection -- but the duplicates should have been edited out before final mastering of the audio book.

Self help book/memoir

The author tells of her own journey and experiences rather than lecturing The principles she discusses remind me strongly of the late Louise Hay. I enjoyed the information about loving yourself, pursuing your dreams, and being true to yourself. Also, how downplaying your strengths is being untrue to yourself and others. I will be relistening to this book and recommending it!!

great autobiographical style self help book

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was a great autobiographical style self help book. The author illustrates the concepts she is trying to convey in a relatable and understandable way. Her reading her own book also lended itself to the relatability of this book. All in all, this was a very uplifting and enjoyable listen.
